Sweeping lines of the road and rail running to Canary Wharf, from below East India DLR Station.

Rush Hour at East India DLR station, looking towards Canary Wharf. Popular spot for togs here, this was shot before sunset, and the station was surprisingly quiet. Happy New Year to all my Flickr friends and followers, its been great keeping up with all your work in 2016, looking forward to seeing new stuff in 2017.

East India, Docklands

Builders in the Little Bow Creek area of Docklands, now known as Trinity Buoy Wharf, have recreated some of the old signs on buildings scheduled for redevelopment as the Goodluck Hope housing scheme. James Mather died in 1796 and his company ceased trading in 1803. Whaling itself went into decline after WW2 and was made illegal in 1973.

This picture was taken on the 9th December and I didn’t get round to putting it on Flickr before now. I did however put it into a Camera Club Competition on the 28th January on the Subject of Architecture and won it for which I will gain a Cup. I have taken shots from this location before, the last being March last year. This time I had the chance of a blue hour shot. The shot is taken from the end of the platform at East India Station of the DLR overhead railway. Just at the ideal spot and height for taking pictures is a flat topped concrete wall. No need for a tripod which might get attention from Security anyway. There is a problem taking pictures from these above street stations with vibration as trains go by. I think the concrete may have helped to absorb these. The Cityscape of Canary Wharf can be seen from other stations on the line but none better than from this one. The picture was taken with a Sony A68 with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens at 10mm. 3 shots for HDR processing combined in Photomatix Realistic preset

There was a lot of processing involved in this shot. First it is a combination of the HDR with 2 shots taken from exactly the same position to add in extra light trails in the road. This is very easy to do in Photoshop. Just paste in each additional image as a new layer and change the blend mode to “Lighten”.

Additional processing included Topaz Clarity and Topaz DeNoise and a crop. Then a brightness adjustment layer to reduce the lights in the buildings. Then a saturation adjustment layer reds channel to bring up the reds in the train light trail. Then heal and clone tools to tidy up.

This is from the same location, but a different point of view as the previous photo. The light-streams on my right are from the DLR train zooming from London City Airport towards The City. The light-streams below are from traffice coming from and going to Blackwall tunnel. The tall buildings are skyscrapers in Canary Warf where many banks have their headquarters.

Interestingly, not long after i took this picture, staff at the station send me on my way as this is private property and I need permissions to take photos from here. Seriously they should have a viewing platform... it is such a fab and interesting view of London! It should be available to everyone! Thanks for letting me keep the snap I already had tho :)

This was taken 2 short stops east along the DLR Rail from my last shot. This is looking back in the other direction at some of the same buildings from the Canary Wharf financial district. The shot is taken from the end of the platform at East India Station and just at the ideal spot and height for taking pictures is a flat topped concrete wall. No need for a tripod which might get attention from Security anyway. There is a problem taking pictures from these above street stations with vibration as trains go by. I think the concrete may have helped to absorb these. The Cityscape of Canary Wharf can be seen from other stations on the line but none better than from this one. The picture was taken with a Sony A68 with a Sigma 10-20 mm lens at 13mm.

There was a lot of processing involved in this shot. First it is a combination of 2 shots taken from exactly the same position There are 2 shots of the train, first as it passed close by and then further up the track. Each RAW image was opened in Aurora HDR and edited with the same settings. All images were used to build up more light trails in the road.

Me

Shot at near Kallang (i don't know exactly the name of the place some say Pebble Bay and some say not, very confusing) in Singapore around 7:15 PM, I was just walking back home from the flyer on the way I saw this blue the soft evening light from the sky reflects over the water and the lights on the buildings over the other side of the river started glowing it was very catchy for my eyes luckily I had my camera with me on the spot then I just framed it as usual…

Usual 3EV (-2.0, +0.0, +2.0) shot, HDR and manually blended two images 40% and 46%, Curves, Levels, Hue/Saturation Master/yellow/blue, Used unsharp mask (as always) on the background layer and added black strips…18-70mm sony lens, ISO 100, Max aperture F5.0 Lens focal length 30.0mm, Shutter speed 1/2sec, F number F5.0 Exposure correction value +0.0 EV, Flash not used, on a tripod.

After a long photowalk with patient friends, we took to the DLR to get us back into Central London.

The view from East India DLR station was stunning so out came the tripod and i took a few long exposures.

Tip 1: Take any planned shot once the trains have left as the whole platform wobbles!

Tip 2: Tripods not allowed! Although i didn't know this at the time.

Calcutta (Kolkata) generates around 4000 MT of waste everyday and the local municipalities collect round 3932 MT of solid waste per day on an average. The ragpickers of the city are one of the key resources who help in keeping the city clean by assisting in the recycling process. (Source: www.kmcgov.in)

Sadly these ragpickers are paid way below minimum wage & such gruesome poverty level has forced them into drug addiction, its hard to come across any ragpicker who is leading sober life.

A scene like this awaited me when I was walking to breakfast every morning. I even took my camera to breakfast so I wouldn't miss one of the wonderful colorful dhows or boats on the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

I stayed at the Serena Hotel by Stone Town. I stayed there on my first trip to this island paradise. It is touted to have the best location in all of Zanzibar and I think this is a reality. Even more so now, as it seems that there is a station close by for the fishing boats to dock at. The bay is a little busier because of this, but ideal if you love looking at a variety of wonderful boats like I do.

It is also a little nosier due to local kids swimming and playing water games in the waters of the bay. It is as though they want to bother the guests so much that the hotel will pick up and move. Guards try to tame them, but it is a constant battle. I commend Zanzibar, however, for not closing the public beaches like so many island paradises try to do like to protect wealthy investor's interests.

The area of land close to the hotel has changed greatly. It all seems to be under construction. A sea wall is being built. Parking lots have sprung up where open walk ways used to be. Stone Town is congested with cars and drivers play chicken with each other. Let's hope that all of this is controlled in the future so one more paradise is not lost!
