Here on the Island of Hawaii the lava stopped entering the ocean over a year ago. Then it resurfaced last summer high up on the volcano zone flatlands and flowed all over up there, and for awhile the rivers of lava were heading towards the main highway and a town (and closer to my house), getting with a few miles of the town.
You might remember my postings showing that lava flow reflecting off the clouds as viewed from my home.
We were relieved when the lava changed direction and headed back toward the sea as it has done for many years. It reached the ocean quickly as several wide and powerful molten rivers.
These new flows are outside the Volcanoes National Park and on State controlled lands and so the state set up very strict access to people seeking to see it. This has never been done to this degree before, and though it is best for safety of the general public, we find it frustrating as locals not to have direct and close access to the lava.
… That said, I went out there last week and took this, and the following photos, from the official ‘lava viewing’ location. I had to use a long lens to better see the lava, and with low light it made for some not so sharp images, but until I have a better opportunity, these are the best I can offer.

A scientific report titled “On the Threat of a Magma Plume Eruption in Siberia and Strategies for Addressing the Issue” has been published on the ALLATRA IPM platform. The study indicates that the Siberian Plume eruption is inevitable, and if timely measures are not taken, the consequences will affect the entire planet.
