Lighting stuff: Lit with one Yongnuo manual flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box on a light stand at camera right. Fill light is from a hand held mirror at camera left. My camera and the flash were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. For each image in the set, and there are over 1800 of them, I describe how I set up the lighting for that particular shot. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/
Other pictures that I've taken of Birds of Paradise flowers can be seen in my creatively titled Birds of Paradise album, and there are almost 100 of them.
Mule Ears framed between an Ocotillo from the mule Mars Spring Trail. This is not by best result from a focus stack. There was a slight breeze which was causing the ocotillo to sway. It took a lot of time in post just to get to this stage. Perhaps it would have been better to leave the ocotillo out of focus, but here it is. Big Bend National Park, Texas, USA, May 2016

The bigger the ears, devices / to hear signals of life / from other beings / the more amazing is the loss / of perception from life nearby / as times goes on.
Hoe groter de oren, het instrument / dat signalen van leven / van andere wezens moeten opvangen / des te meer verbazend / is het verlies van ontvankelijkheid / voor leven nabij / met het strijken van de tijd.
Petey is a topnotch head tilter.
(you can see in this photo that Petey's ears were damaged somehow in his past. His left ear has a gouge out of it near the tip, and the entire tip of his right ear is missing. I assume it was caused by either biting flies, or a biting dog)

I learned a lot about perches in the rainforest this summer. I wanted to set up a perch where the hummers would land before they went to the feeder. The first stick I picked up off the ground on the nearby trail looked great - I hardly noticed it was hollow and didn't really think anything of it. When the first big ant came out, I instantly dropped the stick before I got bit. I learned that the hummers knew this jeopardy also. The only perches they would end up trusting were made of solid wood.

I went on an epic magical adventure with Liat and Kendra. An unplanned journey into the magical forest of British Columbia. A strange, unexpected Flickr meet-up, but perfect day.
I met Kendra traditionally through a moon ceremony last year. We both have grown a lot in the year in different ways. I've followed Liat work on Flickr over the last two-three years. Our photography has become over the last few years in various ways. Two different types of relationships. One based in reality the other from the virtual world. On this day those realities merged together.
Everything which had to take place over the last two-three years contributed to the creation of this epic adventure with these amazing individuals. I find it an amazing when a group of people can associate, connect, learn and create with each other on many different levels.
When I saw Kendra ears glowing from the light source, I knew this image was unique to me. We spent the majority of our adventure at Golden Ears Provincial Park. Logically it makes sense I take a picture of Kendra with "golden ears." Maybe I gained the perspective to understand why someone named the park Golden Ears.
This was actually taken while sitting at a lunch table at a garden centre in Launceston. JJ

Noise-Cancelling Ear Plugs are advised in many situations. If you work in an industry where high noise levels are common, you probably wear ear defenders regularly. Loud noises can pose a significant risk to your hearing, so ear defenders exist to protect your hearing as you work.

Bogart has to be the cleanest dog in the neighborhood. . . how many other dogs get bathed so regularly? And he doesn't even object to this kind of bath! It does start with a few nibbles, of course. . .

Jelly ear back-lit with LED torch - Epping Forest. I often quibble at political correctness but here's an exception. This used to be known as Jew's ear for some unknown reason. It's a sign of the times - in some quarters at least - that the name was changed to jelly ear - much better. About time the scientific name was also brought up to date.
The Sound Mirrors, or "Concrete Ears" were an experimental device built in the late 1920's to early 1930's and used to acoustically detect approaching aircraft. They were very effective, and a skilled operator could even identify the type of aircraft. The invention of RADAR meant they were never used in anger. These structures are located near Lydd on Sea in Kent
