History of the 'Bataaf' mill
At the end of the 18th century it was the nobility who determined the number of mills, because the nobility had the right to wind and pumping. Because of the French times these privileges have disappeared and everyone had the right to start a mill. In Winterswijk the 'Bataaf' was the first mill to use that right.
On August 28, 1880 "was the first meeting that led to the establishment of the" Bataafse "mill. Construction began at the time of the Batavian Republic, from where the name 'Bataaf' was derived. Tenkink (shareholders) were submitted on 3 March 1843 to the District Commissioner for permission to set up a roller flour mill at the 'Bataaf'. This request was approved on 5 May 1843. By the marriage of Johanna Bolthof (daughter of miller Jan Berend) with Garrit in Lintum in 1848 the name in Lintum was connected to the 'Bataaf'. According to a notarial deed, A. te Lintum bought the last shares of the 'Bataaf' on 1 May 1915 and now had the mill in its possession. The 'Bataaf' was stripped of its wicks around 1920. In 1937 the windmill was made turnable again for the wind. The 'Bataaf' was equipped with so-called Dekker-premise and Ten Have-brake valves (used here for the first time in the Netherlands). Until 1956 the 'Bataaf' milled on wind force. In 1963 the sails cross and the inside were removed, which meant the end of working with the windmill. The various expansions of the modern mill have partially hidden the mill body from view. On June 2, 2001 the founding of the 'Molen' Bataaf 'Foundation took place; exactly 200 years after the mill was taken into use.

In the early thirties there was a lively border trade with Germany. The grain was imported at the border in Kotten (Holtstegge) and again carried out at the border in Huppel (Knuver). The earnings came from the difference between the import and export levy of the grain. Was it not earned by the fact that unprocessed grain was imported and ground flour was exported? You just need the mill for that? When the wind was being ground, there was a specific sound of the rotating blades. Because of this, it happened regularly that a driver, from horse and wagon, asked if the vanes could be stopped. The horse often did not dare to come to the windmill due to the sound of the blades. After stopping the blades, the problem was solved.
Notable Building in Tainan.
This art deco department store from the 1930s has been so beautifully restored that it's worth going in just to ascend the sweeping staircase, peer through the geometrical window openings, and have a ride on the grandma lift with the dial floor indicator. There's even a viewing deck on the top floor where you'll find a Shinto shrine and evidence of the damage it suffered during WWII.
Known locally as Lin's Department Store (林百貨) or Five Stories (五層樓), Hayashi was Tainan's first department store and Taiwan's second when it opened in 1932, and is therefore close to the hearts of older Tainaners. Everyone wanted to ride on its lift even if they couldn't afford the goods. Earnings made by the store were delivered just across the road to the neoclassical Nippon Kangyo Bank, predecessor of the Land Bank. In the 1930s Hayashi was doing so well that locals joked that to bring the money somewhere further away would be too risky. The duo were the cornerstones of Tainan's most affluent area.

Few years ago my moms friend moved back to our hometown. I call her auntie. Soon after auntie moved back she found out that her middle school teacher (who then was in her eighties) lived two blocks down the street.
The teacher had never been married and did not have children of her own. She lived alone by herself and had a hired helpers who came during different hours of the day to do the household chores.
Auntie then decided that she would visit her teacher every Sunday rain or shine and spend the day with her. This became their thing and went on for a few years. Three years ago I had the pleasure of meeting this sweet lady in her home. She offered me sweets and snacks and was so happy to have a new visitor. Her eyes sparkled with joy.
The same year one Sunday when auntie was visiting her, the teacher complained of a slight chest pain. The ambulance was called and she was rushed into the emergency room. On the way to the emergency room, the teacher held my auntie's hand and said thank for being there for me. She then took off the diamond earrings that she was wearing handed it over to my auntie and said this is a little token of my appreciation for everything that you have done for me over the years dear, I want you to have it. Later that day she died of an heart attack.
I cant get over the fact that in the midst of the pain and chaos the teacher took the time to thank auntie for her kindness and how much she cherished those Sunday visits.
This is the sweetest story I have ever heard of inheritance.

I find these Variety/ Convenience stores interesting to photograph. I am not in habit to shop there and I am surprised how many survive in the city. Karlovy Vary is famous for its wonderful city architecture and is a great tourist destination. After Prague and Cesky Krumlov the visitors would probably pick this city. On the promenade you would hear many languages, but the most you would hear Russian. Many Russians are actually residents of Karlovy Vary. They came as investors when Soviet Union fell apart, but the financing were not always of legitimate earnings. These tourist are probably from Korea not Russia.

"The ICC Berlin – a spaceship for the future"
My first image from a recent (and very exciting) visit to the International Congress Centre Berlin (ICC). After a seven-year slumber, the ICC opened for a 48-hour event on the occasion of the "Tag des offenen Denmals" (Day of Open Monuments), an annual German event taking place every second September weekend.
The ICC was one of the world's largest congress centres. It was opened in 1979 after a four-year construction time and is located in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district of former West Berlin. Regardless of the fact that, over the years, the ICC has collected countless awards as one of the best congress centres ever built, it was closed in 2014 because its operator, Messe Berlin, claimed that the maintenance of this huge (313 meters long, 89 meters wide, and almost 40 meters tall) building complex was more expensive than the earnings of the events – a debatable claim, especially because the now necessary, so-called "standstill operation" costs about an average of 15 million Euros per year.
Since 2019, the ICC has been heritage-protected. The ICC was built in the futuristic high-tech architecture style with an aluminium façade typical for the 1970s. Hence, one of its many (and most favourite) nicknames is "spaceship". The latter was used as part of the slogan for the flyer published for this September's Open Monuments 48-hour event. Other nicknames are "Alu-Monster" (aluminium monster), "Arche Noah" or "Battleship Charlottenburg". Plans for the future are to use the ICC as a cultural venue.
As was to be expected, the ICC was flooded by visitors (here I was lucky enough to only have a few people in the image). When we arrived, there was a long queue of spontaneous visitors in front of the ICC (which was even longer when we left), so we were happy to have ordered free tickets in advance. Visiting time (wisely) was limited to two hours, so it was a very intense visit and I experienced a kind of sensory overload. I hope there will be another event like this in the future (and before the renovation starts) because I messed up several shots by shooting with a wide-open aperture (once again, I had decided not to bring a tripod along – stupid, very stupid).

When Jimmy Simpson camped at Bow Lake in 1898, he vowed that one day he would "build a shack here". Twenty-five years later he began building the first log cabin on the site and had a permanent base for his outfitting tours. He called his operation Num-Ti-Jah, a Stoney Plain word for pine marten, a small animal similar to a sable.
In 1937, the Banff-Jasper highway was completed as far as Bow Lake. Jimmy, his wife Billie and their children Margaret, Mary and Jimmy jr. began expanding on the original dream of a "shack". With the earnings from Margaret and Mary's professional ice-skating tours, the building of Num-Ti-Jah Lodge began. In 1940, the Lodge had six guest rooms. By 1950, a beautiful log and stone hotel with 16 rooms stood on the shores of Bow Lake.

This is the road from Wensleydale that goes up over the Buttertubs Pass and down into Swaledale, which is famous for its ancient stone barns and dry stone walls. Swaledale runs broadly from west to east (parallel to Wensleydale) and is a typical limestone Yorkshire dale, with its narrow valley bottom road, green meadows and fellside fields, white sheep and dry stone walls.
The upper parts of the dale are particularly striking because of the large old limestone field barns. During the 18th and 19th centuries lead mining was the most important local industry, but now agriculture and tourism provide the principal earnings.
The Galeries Lafayette is an upmarket French department store chain, the biggest in Europe. Its flagship store is on Boulevard Haussmann in the 9th arrondissement of Paris but it now operates a number of locations in France and other countries. In 2019, Galeries Lafayette recorded earnings of over five billion euros. It is a part of the company Groupe Galeries Lafayette and has been a member of the International Association of department stores since 1960.
History
In 1894, Théophile Bader and his cousin Alphonse Kahn opened a fashion store in a small haberdasher's shop at the corner of rue La Fayette and the Chaussée d'Antin, in Paris. In 1896, their company purchased the entire building at 1 rue La Fayette; in 1905 they acquired the buildings at 38, 40 and 42 boulevard Haussmann and 15 rue de la Chaussée d'Antin. Bader commissioned the architect Georges Chedanne and his pupil Ferdinand Chanut to design the store at the Haussmann location, where a glass and steel dome and Art Nouveau staircases were finished in 1912.
From 1921 Maurice Dufrêne directed the Maîtrise workshop of the Galeries Lafayette. This workshop for decorative art and furniture followed the Primavera of the Printemps store founded in 1912 by René Guilleré, Paul Follot's Pomone of Le Bon Marché, and the Studium of the Grands Magasins du Louvre.
In 2018, twenty-two stores in small and mid-sized French cities were turned into franchises and sold to FIB (Financière Immobilière Bordelaise) a company owned by Michel Ohayon. The decision to convert the stores to franchises was done as Galeries Lafayette wanted to focus on expansion internationally and online.
During 2021 eleven stores were franchised with seven sold to Société des Grands Magasins and the three sold to FIB who previously took over twenty two stores in 2018. The eleventh store in Avignon was given to Philippe Sempéré and Nicolas Chambon who also operate the Béziers store.
As of 2022, Galeries Lafayette has opened over 50 stores (including subsidiarised stores) in France alone along with twelve outlet stores.

The Port is a regular member of Japan based International Ports and Harbours (IAPH).As a gateway of Bangladesh, Chattogram Port not only handles 92% of the country’s international trade but also generates about 35% annual revenue of the country on account of import tax, duties and VAT which confirms the significance of the port in the Government’s finance. About 80% export-import industries and 5-Export Processing Zone (out of 10 EPZ) are situated within Dhaka and Chattogram division and Dhaka- Chattogram corridor (transportation by rail, road & river) due to the Chattogram Port. This also helps to generate about 30% of the GDP. 100% imported Petroleum Oil and Lubricant (POL) of the country is transported through this port. Not only that, through this port 100% finished product are exported and 80% raw materials & accessories are imported. For Ready Made Garments (RMG) sector, which fetches about 76% of the country’s export earnings as hard currency.

Last in my mammal wants list for our trip: elephant seals.
While we found some older bull Elephant Seals pretending to fight for dominance, it was these young ones that caught my eye. On the beach for their first molt, they were staying far away for the young bulls who were "playing" the dominance game. Things in the rookery heat up up January, when the older bulls fight for dominance and the right to mate with many, many females.
I will try to catch up with everyone today. I'm back to teaching Tuesday and Thursday evenings and working during the day. My evening earnings are going towards the purchase of a 600 (or 800) mm Canon telephoto lens. So after May there will be no more nights and a super-telephoto in my bag!!

I feel ashamed when i look at this. I remember feeling i had a coup in capturing the Silver Statue moving. I am waiting exactly level with him as i queue up for the till. I am short sighted and only zooming in on my then iphone - the 12 did I see him counting his probably meagre takings for the day. His hand appears almost skeletal and his face almost sad. Definitely not happy that's for sure... Not the Tin man from the Wizard of Oz the sad spray painted man from the Old Market Square Nottingham...No comments needed I cannot comment using my PC and my Ipad temporarily unavailable.....Sue x

The castle was supposed to be a gift of George C. Boldt to his wife Louise.
But she died two weeks before February 14, her birthday.
Through a telegram George ordered construction to cease, never to set foot and his family there again.
For 70 years the castle was left opened to harsh weather and vandals.
The estate was sold for one dollar on a condition that whatever earnings generated
be used ONLY for restoration.

The Boeing 777, commonly referred to as the Triple Seven, is an American wide-body airliner developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It is the world's largest twinjet. The 777 was designed to bridge the gap between Boeing's 767 and 747, and to replace older DC-10s and L-1011s. Developed in consultation with eight major airlines, with a first meeting in January 1990, the program was launched on October 14, 1990, with an order from United Airlines. I am lucky, my city is still relatively calm, but there is no confidence in anything. We will rebuild the houses, but we will not bring life back. And we will never forget this to enemy.
