For the Flickr Friday group. This weeks theme "Early Spring Signs."
Local almond tree orchard in Hanford, California.
Last week's Flickr Friday theme was Early Spring Signs. That was a bit of a challenge for me in Barrie, Ontario....we need it to warm up and stop snowing! Today was nice and sunny, but still -21 celcius with the wind chill. Happily, I did manage to find a few buds on one of my backyard trees.
Salix Caprea - American Pussy Willow is native to northern North America. Their flowers, the familiar pussies, are called catkins. The catkins appear long before the leaves, and are one of the earliest signs of spring. By mid-April the catkins have turned greenish-yellow and formed seeds with tufted hairs. These are released into the wind and are coveted by songbirds, waterfowl and small mammals.
Bald eagle enjoying the open water that the spring thaw brings. Shot along the upper Mississippi River near Wabasha, MN. Liquid water is our first sign of spring!
Springtime prescribed burn smoke surrounds a picnic bench at Indian Cave State Park in southeast Nebraska.
This theme was bad timing for us in Chicago......temps for really cold and snow came in as soon as this theme was announced....luckily my wife spotted this worm on our driveway :)
I'm late for last weeks #FlickrFriday with #EarlySpringSigns but I'm in Sweden so I had to wait a bit longer.
It's snowing in Varberg, still I found the first signs of spring. Those flowers are really badass.
