A foggy Saturday morning sunrise and the summer opening up at Grouse Mountain Resort this past weekend. Looking up from a cranberry farm on Lulu Island, over Vancouver, to the "Peak of Vancouver" (on the left) with snow still on it's ski runs. Captured from Richmond, British Columbia, Canada ~ May 20, 2017 🏂
One of the only mammals, other than humans, that can manufacture its own environment, the beaver is known for building dams, canals and lodges. Its colonies are created by one or more beaver-built dams, which provide still and deep water for protection against predators. An emblem of Canada older than the maple leaf, the beaver has had a greater impact on Canadian history and exploration than any other animal or plant species.
Eastern Kingbirds (Tyrannus tyrannus) are often seen perched jauntily on a treetop or fence wire, or sallying out with shallow fluttering wingbeats to catch an insect in mid-air. Copyright © Kim Toews/All Rights Reserved.

Here in the Salish Sea, two ecotypes are commonly seen, Biggs (aka Transient) Orca, and Resident Orca. To make things even more complicated, there are two distinct populations of Resident Orca in the area, the Northern Residents, and the Southern Residents.
The two ecotypes are defined based on their food choices and social structure. The Resident Orca are salmon eaters travelling in large pods while Biggs Orca feed on other marine mammals and tend to travel in smaller matrilines. The Resident populations are named based on their common ranges. Even though there is some overlap in those ranges, social structure and differing dialects prevent the Northern Residents and Southern Residents from interbreeding. Chasing waterfalls at Elk Falls Provincial Park. Standing on the new 60m (197ft) suspension bridge courtesy of Campbell River Rotary Club, BC Hydro, BC Parks, the Federal Government and the Island Coastal Economic Trust. The bridge is designed to safely hold the equivalent of 400, 300-pound men... but it still swings a bit. Captured in Campbell River ~ November 1, 2015

The break of dawn over the Howe Sound and Porteau Bluffs. The exposed rock face you see here was the site of the landslide (July 29, 2008) that sent 16,000 cubic metres of rock crashing down onto the Sea to Sky Highway below. No one was injured but this direct route from Vancouver to Whistler was blocked for 5 days while crews removed large boulders from the highway. A similar landslide occurred at these bluffs in 1965. Captured from Porteau Cove, British Columbia, Canada ~ July 2, 2017 🌲

At flood levels, this would normally be the beach area.
It is OK to break the rules sometimes of having the midline in the middle ;)

On it's first trip out to Canada's West Coast, newly restored FP9 #4106 leads the Royal Canadian Pacific home to Calgary, AB, as the train travels east on the Cascade Sub through the Yale Tunnels near Yale, BC.
The Western Painted Turtle is named after the bright yellow stripes on its head, neck, tail and legs, and the glowing red on its plastron (shell covering the belly).

Sea Otters can be up to 1.5 m (5’ long) and weigh up to 50 kg (110 lbs). They often swim/float on their back draping kelp over their bodies like a blanket to keep from drifting away. They are found in coastal waters in the central and North Pacific Ocean. They are however, rare in the Puget Sound and Southern Vancouver Island. The Sea Otter was listed as a species of Special Concern under the Species at Risk Act (SARA) in 2009. Copyright © Kim Toews/All Rights Reserved.
