During fall 2016, I have taken up the challenge of realising a 10-week travel spread across Canada, starting in Vancouver and finishing in Québec / Montréal. My journey has taken me past soaring peaks, incredible waters & beautiful cultural traditions left by Canada's First Nation People & more. Follow me as I continue exploring: www.creativelena.com!
I've made it to Toronto! After leaving Western Canada, Toronto is my gateway city into exploring the great provinces of Ontario & Québec further along my trip. Look at what I found around the city, including arts, culture, food & a surprising reading event of the #CreativeTravelersHandbook too!

"Go to Tofino ..." I came here because somebody whispered its name. Like a (very) positive conspiracy. And YES, this part of Vancouver Island is attractive indeed: Staying at Lone Cone Hostel & Campground, you are able to dig into a fascinating First Nation story too. Come for surfing, camping and / or a lifestyle choice for staying and spending a while. What a great place !!

Spending a week in September with Québec First Nation Tribes, we have learned a great deal about the cultural practices and ways of living of the Cree, Wendat, Ilnu and other nations that have lived here before European settles arrived. A very interesting journey I'll soon share more on my blog about! Follow #QCAboriginal in order to learn more :)

The third and final major leg of my journey onboard the VIA Rail train company is now complete: After having reached out from Vancouver, crossed the Rocky Mountains, come through Saskatoon in Saskatchewan, I am now finally in Winnipeg, the great province of Manitoba. And what a journey that was / is !!!

My journey through Western Canada continues as I head out further east, leaving the Rocky Mountains behind in exchange for the "vast open Prairies" of lower Saskatchewan. It is here where the VIA Rail train stops again, in the town of Saskatoon (the province's largest town) and I am enjoying a two day break in a city that has truly and deeply surprised me in many ways.

I have spent almost a week on Salt Spring Island, in the Southern Gulf Islands just off the much larger, well-known Vancouver Island. Amidst artists, winemakers, coffeeshop owners and simply incredibly resourceful, talented and warm-hearted people. Sounds like a snapshot of what Canada is all about? In essence, you've got it all here on Salt Spring Island and more. I completely fell. Head over heels. And already know I'll be back here .. soon !!!
