I think just about anyone who likes abandoned places and/or painting in Moscow has been here. It's so easy to find, get into, and there are always groups of teenagers hanging out there. But it's all coming to an end. Last time we went there were guards who (very politely) kicked us out, and said that the site will be redeveloped.

This is an image of a tiny pore in a sample of acrylic bone cement, stained with blue dye and captured using a microscope.
The three different images show the interior surface of the pore slowly being revealed as the microscope focus is adjusted.
These images were acquired as part of a study investigating the mixing characteristics and mechanical properties of bone cement. Bone cement is the grout used in total hip replacement to fix components into the body.
Understanding the properties of bone cement, including porosity, will help to ensure components are adequately fixed for long-term relief from the debilitating effects of osteoarthritis.

This mural is in Black Cat Alley In Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I thought it was perfect for today’s exploration theme in the Flickr 21st Birthday challenge. My wife and I like exploring cities we visit for interesting street art, and the mural itself depicts exploration via books and imagination.

"Leonardo da Vinci: 500 Years of Genius" at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Denver, Colorado.
The exhibit featured, among many things, life-size and/or large-scale models of ideas found in da Vinci's notebooks.

Nearly 100 teams took part in the 2019 Human Exploration Rover Challenge, held April 12-13 at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The competition, hosted by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, challenges high school and college teams to design, build and test human-powered roving vehicles inspired by the Apollo lunar missions and future exploration missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond. This year’s competition marked 25 years since the inaugural event.

I set up a particle system with the contours of the letters as attractors and then played with transparency, accumulation, blending modes and other parameters.
