Lac d'Annecy, Haute-Savoie, France.
The Lac d'Annecy is a lake in Haute-Savoie, in eastern France. It is famous for being one of the cleanest lakes in the world. It is also the second largest lake in France after Lake Bourget, except for the French part of Lake Geneva.
The lake was formed 18,000 years ago, during the melting of the great alpine glaciers.
It is fed by several small rivers, born in the nearby mountains (Ire, Eau morte, Laudon, Bornette and Biolon), and by a powerful underwater source, the Boubioz, which rises at a depth of 82 m. It is surrounded: to the east by the Bornes massif; to the west, by the massif of the Bauges; to the north, by the agglomeration of Annecy; and to the south, through a wide valley.
The lake expels its excess water into the Thiou river and the Vassé canal, which join and feed the Fier river, 1500 m north of Annecy, which eventually joins the Rhone river.

The elaborate facade is all that remains (above ground) of St. Paul's Cathedral in the historic center of Macau. The cathedral was built in 1620-ies, mostly by Japanese Christians expelled from Japan. It was destroyed by fire during a typhoon in 1835 (at the first glance the typhoon should have brought enough water to quench the fire, but obviously it did not happen).

Fireworks in honor of the birthday of the city of Moscow. September 7, 2019 the capital turned 872.
Fireworks are considered one of the most ancient decorations of holidays, carnivals and processions.
With the invention of gunpowder, something similar to the fireworks that we now observe on holidays has already appeared. They learned to control it, to regulate its speed, strength and direction. Firecrackers from gunpowder were invented by the Chinese, mainly they used them to expel demons. But in Europe, more precisely in Italy, the first festive fireworks were launched. Many believe that Peter I introduced the fireworks fashion, yes, it is, but it is fashion. And here, few people know that fireworks "dabbled" even under Ivan the Terrible.
Celebratory fireworks and salutes gained the most popularity in the 19th century, it was during this period that the development of chemistry took place. More and more chemical compounds were opened, which made it possible to make fireworks colored. At that time, fireworks were so in fashion that they were launched not only with rich houses, but ordinary people could also afford such entertainment. For example, a salute for a wedding.
The peak of the rise in our country of fireworks falls on the 90s of the 20th century, but today we can hardly imagine any significant holiday without fireworks and fiery show programs.

In the midst of eternal turmoil, when you begin to feel the beauty of the light shining through the darkness, you can bow to the eternity of creation. But as you begin to discover the balance of light and dark, your mind will begin to suffer between the good and the bad. Even if the path you walk causes you to be expelled from the magic gardens of heaven, you will keep walking...

I am inspired by the autumn leaves and the placid orange color that is flooding everything mixed with the last greens of late summer. I am inspired by the rustling of the trees with sad notes, announcing the arrival of the cold. And lastly, your voice inspired me, full of light, of life. I am inspired by your smile that expelled the shadows of melancholy.
It will never fill my life with light again, but still, your voice inspires me...

I've been going through all my photos since I got home, looking for this shot because after I took it I zoomed in on my camera and saw that you could actually see the point of origin where the eggs are being expelled from the salmon as the bear squeezed it in its mouth to hold on to it.
So I just now found it.
Some people might be grossed out but I thought it was interesting to see.
This special kind of Water Lily has the scientific name of Victoria Amazonica.
It is an aquatic plant of the Nymphaeaceae family, typical of the Amazon region. It has a large circle-shaped leaf that sits on the surface of the water, and can reach up to 2.5 meters in diameter and can withstand up to 40 kilos if well distributed on its surface.
Its flower (flowering from early March to July) can be white, lilac, purple, pink and even yellow, it expels a sweet nocturnal fragrance of the apricot, called by the Europeans of "lacustrine rose", remains open until the early the next morning.

The most common way that this mushroom was eaten was when it had been dried. The Druid or Druids fasted for at least 3 days, drinking only water although sometimes small amounts of purifying herbs may also be taken and meditating before consumption of the fungi. This was done for a number of reasons, not only to purify the mind but also it purified the body because the body acts in a strange way to this fungi. When consumed the body removes the Mind-Expanding substances before the poison. So the Psychedelic is in the body before it starts to react to the poison. This reaction is violent stomach emptying as the body rejects what's left of the mushroom before it absorbs any more of the poison. The Druids were well prepared for this sickness as it was part of taking the fungi. After the poison is rejected the Psychedelic starts to act, this is when the second reason for body purity was needed as the first urine expelled after consumption is nearly all Psychedelic and this was either consumed at the time to give full effect of the fungi or stored for a later ritual. It may also have been used in some of their Beverages or Potions. This may sound a bit sick to some but with the 3 day fast and only water going in, only water was coming out.

The Galápagos marine iguana is a species of iguana found only on the Galápagos Islands (Ecuador). Unique among modern lizards, it is a marine reptile that has the ability to forage in the sea for algae, which makes up almost all of its diet. Large males dive to find their food, while females and smaller males feed during low tide in the intertidal zone. They mainly live in colonies on rocky shores where they bask after visiting the relatively cold water or intertidal zone, but can also be seen in mangrove swamps and beaches.
Marine iguanas vary in appearance between the different islands and several subspecies are recognized. Although relatively large numbers remain and it is locally abundant, this protected species is considered threatened. (Wikipedia)
-------------------
In some places, they are so numerous you have to be careful where you step, for fear of squashing one or six!
This one, a sub-species found on only two small islands, has found a sunny spot all to himself for a few hours of basking. The white on his face is sea salt expelled from his nostrils (a fairly reliable way of distinguishing them from land iguanas).

How high can the Old Faithful geyser reach?
90-184 feet
However, it does erupt more frequently than any other of the large geysers. An Old Faithful eruption lasts 1.5 to 5 minutes and reaches a height of 90-184 feet (27-55 m). The period of time between Old Faithful's eruptions ranges from 35 to 120 minutes, though the average is 92 minutes. Old Faithful Geyser expels 3,700 to 8,400 gallons of water each time it erupts
While the geyser is highly predictable – it has erupted every 44 to 125 minutes since 2000 – a new climate assessment and a recent study have revealed that rising temperatures, reduced snowfall and increased rain threaten to shut Old Faithful off completely by the end of the century.
Santolina chamaecyparissus, known as cotton lavender or lavender-cotton,is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, native to the western and central Mediterranean. It is a small, evergreen shrub growing to 50 cm tall and broad. Densely covered in aromatic, grey-green leaves, in summer it produces masses of yellow, button-like composite flowerheads, held on slender stems above the foliage. The disc florets are tubular and there are no ray florets. This plant is valued in cultivation as groundcover or as an edging plant for a hot, sunny, well-drained spot, though it may be short-lived. Once established, plants can tolerate dry and poor soils. Its compact shape can be maintained by cutting back in spring. Cotton lavender has many potential uses. Most commonly, the flowers and leaves are made into a decoction used to expel intestinal parasites. An oil used in perfumery can also be extracted from the plant. Branches may be hung up in wardrobes to repel insects, and leaves are also suitable for use in pot pourri and in herbal tobacco substitutes. 29382

Through the course of observing these Orb Weavers, I am struck at just how meticulous and careful they are in regards to maintenance and cleanliness. They will spend hours preening, maintaining, cleaning and repairing their webs, over and over again. Here a Female Orb Weaver consumes the silk that has become too damaged to be used; also to recoup the energy they expel in creating it; essentially licking the plate. They are, if anything, absolutely efficient via design for what they do.
Another week ahead, I hope everyone is well, all the best and as always, thank you! :)
You can't choose the weather, especially not with a ticking time bomb. Modern locomotives and crews have made "chewin" a popular phrase, but we might forget that its not a new phenomenon. With its throttle stuck in the corner, former Northern Pacific #351 violently expels exhaust as it charges down the iron highway the Northern Pacific laid down over a hundred years ago. Weather be damned, this was a hell of a sight as we paced along side them ramping up to track speed.

I have posted quite a lot of historical images this month and I thought it would be good to have a change . However the water garden in this shot is also of some historical interest so not a complete shift from the past.
I was also trying out a new phone camera that I bought in March to see what it could do. This is pretty good as long as you do not zoom in too closely . It is just about straight out of the phone with only a little cropping . I did take the Nikon with me so I have some shots of the garden of better quality.
If you visit the twelfth century Fountains Abbey it is only a short walk along the river to the Studley Royal water gardens . The gardens were designed by John Aislabie in the early seventeenth century, they are a fine example of a Georgian water gardens
The Temple of Piety seen in the centre of the image is one of the many neo-classical buildings in Studley Royal. Like the Tower that you can also see these buildings were purely for decoration . I wonder how much stone at Studley Royal was pinched from Fountains Abbey
a bit more background
In the early 18th-century John Aislabie had great plans to impress visitors to his Yorkshire estate and so turned the wild and wooded valley of the river Skell into one of England’s most spectacular Georgian water gardens.
John Aislabie inherited the Studley Royal estate in 1693. He was a socially and politically ambitious man and became Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1718. Disaster struck his career in 1720 due to his part in the South Sea Bubble financial scandal and he was expelled from Parliament. It was then that John returned to Yorkshire and devoted himself to creating this ground-breaking garden. Inspired by the work of the great French landscape gardeners, the two gifted amateurs created the Water Garden with its formal, geometric design and extraordinary vistas; including the much photographed Temple of Piety. You can also find classical statues, follies and garden buildings carefully positioned within the landscape to discover and enjoy.
In 1767 William Aislabie purchased the Abbey ruins to complete the garden and create the ultimate vista. The climax of the garden is known as “The Surprise View” or “Anne Boleyn’s Seat”. “Surprise View” is an apt name as it gives an astonishing view of the Abbey ruins in the distance and was designed to cause a sharp intake of breath when visitors to the garden came across it.
Amazingly the garden you see today is little changed from the one that would have impressed Aislabie’s visitors 200 years ago.

The Indian flying fox (Pteropus giganteus), also known as the greater Indian fruit bat, is a species of flying fox in the Pteropodidae family. It is nocturnal and feeds mainly on ripe fruits, such as mangoes and bananas, and nectar.
The Indian flying fox lives in rain forests and swamps, where a large body of water is nearby. It is found in Bangladesh, China, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
The Indian flying fox is frugivorous or nectarivorous, i.e., they eat fruits or lick nectar from flowers. At dusk, these bats forage for ripe fruit. While ingesting fruit, these bats expel waste that pollinates and disperse seeds.

Sh2-68 is a planetary nebula in the Serpens constellation, estimated to be around 980 light years from earth (planetary nebulae are extremely difficult to perform distance measurements on, let alone accurate ones). It's sometimes refered to as "The flaming skull" nebula. Usually, I think these names are quite far-fetched; with this one I can sort of see it though.
At first sight, this is your typical planetary nebula. Meaning a low to intermediate mass star came to the end of its life and the colourful gas we see is what used to make up the outer shell of said star. However, the "tail" of gas moving away (towards the right of the frame) is somewhat unusual. So what's going on there?
The central star within the nebula is moving through space at a fairly high speed. Additionally, the area of space it's in contains a fair bit of gas/dust of its own. As a result, the material being expelled by the star is meeting some resistance as it collides with the already present gas (and is being slowed down if you will), while the star itself continues on its merry way. Over a long period of time, the distance between the star and the expelled gas becomes great enough to be perceived as a "tail".

Tétouan is famed for its fine craftsmanship and musical delicacy and has been part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the area of Crafts and Folk Art since 2017. Its cultural heritage is the product of the interaction between different cultural influences throughout centuries. It is mainly characterized by its Andalusian style and way of living but both Berber, Jewish and Colonial Spanish influences are present too.
The streets are fairly wide and straight, and many of the houses belonging to aristocratic families, descendants of those expelled from Al-Andalus by the Spanish Reconquista, possess marble fountains and have groves planted with orange trees. Within the houses and riads the ceilings are often exquisitely carved and painted in Hispano-Moresque designs, such as are found in the Alhambra of Granada, and the tile-work for which Tetuan is known may be seen on floors, pillars and dados. The city has seven gates which were closed at night up until early 20th century. Many Sufi Zawiyas are scattered inside the walled old city.

Males are black with brown head and females are brown all over.
Adults have a short finch-like bill and dark eyes. The adult male is mainly iridescent black with a brown head. The adult female is grey with a pale throat and fine streaking on the underparts.
Breeding in open or semi-open country across most of North America, this bird is a brood parasite: it lays its eggs in the nests of other small passerines (perching birds), particularly those that build cup-like nests, such as the Yellow Warbler. The young cowbird is fed by the host parents at the expense of their own young.
Brown-headed Cowbirds are permanent residents in the southern parts of their range; northern birds migrate to the southern United States and Mexico. They often travel in flocks, sometimes mixed with Red-winged Blackbirds or European Starlings.
Brown-headed Cowbird
These birds forage on the ground, often following grazing animals such as horses and cows to catch insects stirred up by the larger animals. They mainly eat seeds and insects.
At one time, the Brown-headed Cowbird followed the bison herds across the prairies. Their parasitic nesting behavior complemented this nomadic lifestyle. Their numbers expanded with the clearing of forested areas and the introduction of new grazing animals by settlers across North America. Brown-headed Cowbirds are now commonly seen at suburban bird feeders.
Brown-headed Cowbird females can lay 36 eggs in a season. Over 140 different species of birds are known to have raised young cowbirds. Host parents may sometimes notice the cowbird egg. Different species react in different ways. Gray Catbirds destroy the egg by pecking it. Some species may simply build a new layer over the bottom of the original nest. Brown-headed cowbird nestlings are sometimes expelled from the nest.
I found this female along with a few dozen more including males in my backyard.

Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces - Impressed by the rock formations and their colors – white, yellow, gold, and orange! All these colors are due to the presence of bacteria and algae that flourish in the extremely hot waters of the springs. Over thousands of years they have formed terraces called travertine formations - Rain waters seep into the rocks, and once they reach a certain depth, they are heated by the action of boiling magma. They rise back to the surface of the earth. The waters at Mammoth Hot Springs are not expelled into the air. They cross the rocks up and deposit limestone sediments on the surface. The warm waters slowly flow from one basin to another, forming terraces as shown in the picture. It flows over some white limestone and orange travertine deposits. Mammoth Hot Springs is “journey to the center of Earth”, but outdoors!
The diversity of life in Yellowstone's thermal hot springs is more complex than we'd ever thought. Heat-loving microbes living in the Yellowstone's thermal pools – showing as living thermometer. The color of the bacteria is determined by the temperature of the water (You can tell the water temperature by the colors of microorganisms). The area is nature’s laboratory and provide unique opportunity to study and unveil earth’s secrets.
«What happens in Ukraine matters to us all.
That is why I am in Kyiv today.
That is why the UK will continue to stand with our Ukrainian friends.
I believe Ukraine can and will win this war.»
/British Prime Minister Boris Johnson arrived in Kyiv as the country celebrates Independence Day./
Life in Ukraine has never been easy. Many challenges have always awaited every Ukrainian every day - from the usual family and existential ones to unpredictable ones related to the political life of society. The war of 2014 fell on Ukrainians by surprise, like some kind of disease. That war was perceived as a disease that could be cured, because no one could and did not want to believe that it was a harbinger of something terrible, that trouble was brewing. How was it possible with common sense to believe that your neighbor would declare: "I will destroy you all and take all yours for myself." But February 24, 2022 came, and Russia began killing Ukrainians, destroying cities and villages, and looting our historical symbols. Life in Ukraine has changed. A different meaning of life has appeared, the dreams of Ukrainians have changed. We want to expel the enemy from every piece of the land of Ukraine and return to our usual and such difficult Ukrainian life. This is now the dream of everyone who lives in Ukraine and loves it, because there is nowhere better than it on the planet.
Sénanque Abbey
It was founded in 1148 under the patronage of Alfant, bishop of Cavaillon, and Ramon Berenguer II, Count of Barcelona, Count of Provence, by Cistercian monks who came from Mazan Abbey in the Ardèche. Temporary huts housed the first community of impoverished monks. By 1152 the community already had so many members that Sénanque was able to found Chambons Abbey, in the diocese of Viviers.
The young community found patrons in the seigneurs of Simiane, whose support enabled them to build the abbey church, consecrated in 1178. Other structures at Sénanque followed, laid out according to the rule of Cîteaux Abbey, mother house of the Cistercians. Among its existing structures, famed examples of Romanesque architecture, are the abbey church, cloister, dormitory, chapter house and the small calefactory, the one heated space in the austere surroundings, so that the monks could write, for this was their scriptorium. A refectory was added in the 17th century, when some minimal rebuilding of existing walls was undertaken, but the abbey is a remarkably untouched survival, of rare beauty and severity: the capitals of the paired columns in the cloister arcades are reduced to the simplest leaf forms, not to offer sensual distraction.
The abbey church is in the form of a tau cross with an apse projecting beyond the abbey's outer walls. Somewhat unusually, its liturgical east end faces north, as the narrow and secluded valley offered no space for the conventional arrangement.
In the 13th and 14th centuries, Sénanque reached its apogee, operating four mills, seven granges and possessing large estates in Provence. In 1509, when the first abbot in commendam was named, a sure sign of the decline of vocation, the community at Sénanque had shrunk to about a dozen. During the Wars of Religion the quarters for the lay brothers were destroyed and the abbey was ransacked by Huguenots. At the French Revolution the abbey's lands were nationalized, the one remaining monk was expelled and Sénanque itself was sold to a private individual.
