Ocellated Skink (Chalcides Ocellatus)

my second of its kind nab again in Greece on the island of Rhodes

It is a long cylindrical lizard with short legs with five fingers. Thanks to the undulations of his body, he digs loose sand, a process that evokes swimming. Other species that do this have a more serpent-like appearance than the Ocellated Skink, with their limbs reduced with only three fingers, if any. Unusually for a burrowing lizard, it has eyelids and, its brown body is covered in smooth, shiny scales

The Holocaust Memorial (formal name: Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas) in Berlin is a memorial commemorating the persecution of the Jews during World War II. It consisted of 2,711 concrete blocks varying in height from 20 cm to 4.70 meters with a mutual spacing of 95 cm. Due to a construction error, a block was removed for investigation and not replaced, so that there are now only 2710 concrete blocks. An exhibition space has been set up under the field with the blocks. The American architect Peter Eisenman designed the monument. The field with the wavy blocks evokes a feeling of disorientation and isolation and is symbolic of the experiences of the Jewish population during the Nazi rule.

I was a horse crazy child whose life revolved around horses. I was also a daydreamer introvert tomboy who outside of school spent every waking moment with horses and dogs, or lost in books. My grandfather enthusiastically encouraged my love of reading by taking me to book stores every week and buying me as many horse stories as my little horse loving heart desired. I was enthralled with the classic Jill series by Ruby Ferguson, and remember being heartbroken after finishing up the nine books. Those books even more importantly evoke cherished memories of my beloved Papa, who I adored.

In this shot I was trying to capture a vintage horsey storybook vibe, and channel Jill from those childhood favorite books, hence the groovy lil off kilter light mood! Happy memories. 🐴💕

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week … it is just zipping by! Almost wine time, a much loved grown up girl pursuit! Sending love … ❤️🍷💕

Annunciation is a sound installation made up of a series of loudspeakers from a former stadium in the Eastern bloc. In the installation you hear a buzz that evokes insects or a cheering crowd, also a reference to the feelings that music and dance can evoke.

"Verviers, Walloon capital of water"

Enter the old sheet factory, now Maison de l'Eau, to discover this first fresco, created by the former director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Verviers. The industrial machines that have made the city's glorious past draw their energy from the water of the Vesdre. This fresco evokes the transition between past and future, between the water which was used for industry and allowed the prosperity of our city and the water which is part of the quality of life to be offered to future generations. Discover the stages of the manufacture of wool, the ploquette merchant, the Gileppe Dam and its famous lion.

I made several images while exploring this section of the river where fallen autumn leaves had collected on some of the larger boulders that were partially covered by water. I always enjoy how this kind of image evokes place and season without showing much of either. This leaves space for the imagination, which I feel is often more interesting than a more literal interpretation of a scene.

A durian vendor at Pak Khlong Talat in Bangkok.

Wikipedia: The durian is the edible fruit of several tree species belonging to the genus Durio. There are 30 recognized species, at least nine of which produce edible fruit. Durio zibethinus, native to Borneo and Sumatra, is the only species available on the international market. It has over 300 named varieties in Thailand and 100 in Malaysia as of 1987. Other species are sold in their local regions. Known in some regions as the "king of fruits", the durian is distinctive for its large size, strong odor, and thorn-covered rind.

Some people regard the durian as having a pleasantly sweet fragrance, whereas others find the aroma overpowering and unpleasant. The smell evokes reactions ranging from deep appreciation to intense disgust. The persistence of its strong odor, which may linger for several days, has led some hotels and public transportation services in Southeast Asia, such as in Singapore and Bangkok, to ban the fruit. The flesh can be consumed at various stages of ripeness, and it is used to flavor a wide variety of sweet desserts and savory dishes in Southeast Asian cuisines. The seeds can be eaten when cooked.

LOW TIDE

As a young amateur astronomer, I loved gazing into the starry sky, merging into infinity, into the great All. There, I felt a sense of eternity and immutability that was beyond me. I could certainly understand what I was observing in terms of astronomy or cosmology. But it remained an intellectual reality that didn't allow me to translate what I felt in my body. My imagination then took over, imagining improbable worlds and fantastic odysseys where all beginnings and all destinies met—chimerical reveries.

Then, one day, I turned my gaze to the ground of my planet and to the living beings around me. I perceived the smells, textures, and songs of the Earth, the pulse of life, its fragility, and the inextricable bonds that unite me to the destiny of my planet. I felt these primordial truths in my body and in my mind. Like the day when, on a shore renowned for the magnitude of its tides, an ocean of small, shimmering pebbles of every color appeared at my feet at low tide. They evoked in my mind a "galaxy" of tiny worlds shining with indescribable beauty in the eternal night of space.

But this time, this galaxy was my habitat, here and now, and that of many other life forms whose impulses and fragility I felt. I understood then that, if a fantastic Odyssey were to take place, it would unfold here on Earth, in the meanders of the human soul. It would be called the Vital Odyssey, and it would consist of inventing a new art of inhabiting our living world.

Photographing a lone car at Te Mata Peak’s summit car park is a brilliant way to blend minimalist composition with dramatic natural grandeur. Here's how to make the most of it:

🌄 Setting the Scene

- Location: The summit car park at Te Mata Peak (399m) offers sweeping views over Hawke’s Bay, with rolling hills, distant coastlines, and often moody skies.

- Atmosphere: Early morning or late afternoon light adds golden tones and long shadows. Fog or low cloud can create a surreal, floating-above-the-world effect.

- Isolation: A single car in an otherwise empty car park evokes solitude, scale, and story—especially if framed against the vast landscape.

🎨 Composition Tips

- Wide-angle drama: Use a wide lens to exaggerate the car’s smallness against the expansive backdrop.

- Rule of thirds: Position the car off-centre to draw the eye through the frame toward the horizon.

- Leading lines: Use the car park’s edges or road markings to guide the viewer’s gaze.

- Silhouette magic: Shoot into the light for a stark silhouette, especially at sunrise or sunset.

️ Best Conditions

- Golden hour: Just after sunrise or before sunset for warm tones and soft shadows.

- Cloud drama: Overcast skies can add mood and texture—perfect for black-and-white shots.

- Clear days: Ideal for showcasing the full sweep of Hawke’s Bay from the summit.

🚗 Car as Character

- Choose a car with a distinctive shape or colour to contrast with the natural tones.

- Consider the story: Is it a vintage car evoking nostalgia? A rugged 4WD suggesting adventure? A sleek coupe hinting at elegance?

Bonus Tip

If you’re lucky, you might catch para-gliders drifting overhead or mist rolling through the valleys—adding layers of movement and atmosphere. Sadly i didn't but the car will suffice

I hope this image evokes a feeling of tranquility and peace. The warm colors of the sunset contrasting with the cool blues of the water and sky create a sense of balance and harmony. The silhouette of the bridge against the vibrant sky adds a touch of mystery and intrigue.

Mediobogdum Roman Fort Wall slightly rebuilt defending history and evoking mystery against a backdrop of towering majesty in Eskdale

This historic site needs no reflection to admire the work of our ancestors and of nature, but the reflections do add to my consideration and appreciation.

Evening approaches and the shadow slightly encroaches on your imagination building and extending possible former construction and stirring ideas of formal occupation and informal habitation. This fort is built near the mountain passes that vehicles struggle across. To see the well set stone amongst the transformed landscape is to be amongst living food for the soul. Well it is if you have your way of enjoying history.

The feelings so easily generated here give you an insight into the way we humans focus on an importance and build around it, but when our human systems change we walk away from our former focus and take away the resources we were investing. Then the historic value gives us focus renewed to map, to rebuild a little and to conserve the memory making place. The history of this one Roman Fort positioned along a trade route near the edge of a vast Empire still standing near the narrow single track byway that never attracted industrial traffic and road building tells us much about ourselves and human interest.

Mediobogdum Roman Fort on Hardknott Pass in the Lake District has some great slightly rebuilt ruins. The light on this evening was a splendid Sun bath and banquet lighting the way to older notions and even initiation upon a ladder of lights that illuminated all of the ways to become enlightened, ignited and rejoicing in the light. This remote mountain pass with amazing ruin is an almost unbelievable location to find history and to enjoy mystery.

This image was taken on a cloudy afternoon. The moody clouds and intact snow mingle atop the mountains to evoke all of the majesty and power of the Rockies. A part of the brown picnic table pops out of the snow blanket rendering a warm contrast with the cold winter landscape.

This photograph captures a serene winter morning, showcasing a residential area blanketed in fresh snow. The house, with its brick and stone exterior, stands prominently in the center, surrounded by a pristine white landscape. The covered porch and the arched window add architectural charm to the scene. Snow-covered shrubs and trees frame the house, enhancing the tranquil and picturesque atmosphere. The stone retaining wall and the driveway, both blanketed in snow, lead the eye towards the entrance, creating a sense of depth and calm. The overcast sky and the bare tree branches complete the winter tableau, evoking a sense of peace and quietude.

Columns evoking trees and branches, Antoni Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona exhilirates with the stunning tonality of its illumination. I took this photo on March 10, 2017: 135 years after construction began, 2.25 years before a building permit was issued, and 9.25 years before completion is expected (the 100th anniversary of Gaudi's death). Multiple generations and pragmatic modifications were anticipated by Gaudi, who wrote, "I will grow old but others will come after me. What must always be conserved is the spirit of the work, but its life has to depend on the generations it is handed down to and with whom it lives and is incarnated."

This photograph, taken in Pescara, Italy, captures the essence of a charming and historic Italian street. The cobblestone road leads the eye down a narrow alley framed by a mix of rustic and weathered buildings. These structures showcase traditional Italian architecture, characterized by their warm tones, wrought-iron balconies, and shuttered windows. Some of the facades bear the marks of time, adding to the authentic atmosphere of this coastal city.

Pescara, located on the Adriatic coast, is known for its blend of historical heritage and modernity. While much of the city was rebuilt after heavy bombing during World War II, parts of the old town (Pescara Vecchia) retain their original charm. The street depicted here likely belongs to such an area, evoking the memory of medieval urban planning where narrow pathways served to create shaded, cool environments in the summer.

Architecturally, Pescara combines traditional Italian styles with some influences from its role as a key trading post. The wrought-iron lamp posts and flower-laden window boxes in the image highlight the city's aesthetic dedication to beauty and community spaces. The intricate textures of the buildings hint at a rich history, possibly dating back to the Renaissance or earlier periods when the region flourished under various Italian states.

Culinary delights in Pescara reflect its coastal location and agricultural roots. Visitors can enjoy dishes such as "brodetto," a seafood stew made from fresh Adriatic catches, or "arrosticini," skewers of seasoned lamb, often cooked over open flames. The vibrant atmosphere of streets like the one in the photo is often complemented by small trattorias and cafes offering espresso, gelato, and regional wines like Montepulciano dâAbruzzo.

This image encapsulates the timeless beauty of Pescara, blending its rich cultural and historical tapestry with everyday Italian life. It invites visitors to wander the streets, explore the local heritage, and savor the region's unique flavors.

To Prologue of the Story "The Doors"

♫♫Michael Jackson - Childhood♫♫

Childhood, like a vibrant tapestry woven with silken threads of carefree bliss, paints an ethereal landscape in the archives of our hearts. Memories, radiant as summer suns, dance before our eyes, evoking the ecstatic symphony of splashing in cerulean waters, the gentle caress of golden rays upon our youthful skin. Paper boats, delicate messengers of whispered wishes, embark on a whimsical journey, carried by the ceaseless currents of the sea. We watch with wide-eyed anticipation, our hearts swelling with the fervent hope that our dreams will someday sail into the realm of reality.

As we navigate the labyrinth of adulthood, a peculiar phenomenon occurs. A flicker of recognition stirs within us, awakening the slumbering child that once resided in our souls. This child, armed with unbridled curiosity and an insatiably inquisitive gaze, revels in the wonders that surround them. Hues of vibrant allure, sunlight dappling the world in ethereal luminosity, and the enchanting melodies of childhood ignite a profound sense of awe and wonderment.

In fleeting moments, it becomes astonishingly simple to delve into the annals of our past, to seek refuge in the cherished recollections of youth. With gentle reverence, we close our eyes and unlock the portals to our most precious memories. By revisiting these hallowed grounds, we not only rekindle the warmth and tenderness of bygone days but also reconnect with an integral part of ourselves, a part that transcends time and circumstance.

Within the depths of a newfound friendship, a kaleidoscope of captivating qualities shimmered forth. In the eyes of her companion, she glimpsed the vivacity, the insatiable curiosity, and the unyielding spirit of a child. This enigmatic soul possessed an extraordinary capacity to embrace the world without seeking the validation or guidance of elders, living each moment with an intensity that defied the boundaries of time. In the softness of her hair and the radiant glow of her smile, the narrator found solace and inspiration.

With uninhibited exuberance, they embraced the symphony of life, inhaling the salty kiss of the sea breeze and reveling in the sheer joy of existence. In those shared moments of blissful abandon, they rediscovered the unadulterated essence of childhood, reminding them that true fulfillment lies not in the pursuit of distant dreams but in the profound appreciation of the present moment.

A mesmerizing interplay of light and shadow unfolds over the tranquil sea. A beam of sunlight pierces through the heavy, brooding clouds, casting a radiant glow on a single, delicate cloud that floats just above the horizon. The dark sky contrasts with the serene waters below, where a lone boat drifts peacefully. This captivating scene evokes a sense of wonder and calm, as nature’s quiet power and beauty are elegantly framed in monochrome.
