NS GE ES-44AC #8025 rolls through the west end of Morrisville Yard shortly before sunset on a warm spring evening. The evidence of this area's electrified Pennsy past are evident in the old catenary poles as well as some of the wires still hanging over the yard tracks. This area was also a major hump yard for the Pennsy, and the old signals that controlled the hump yard still and in 2020.
Norfolk Southern train AC44C6M #4543 and Norfolk Southern heritage unit NS ES-44AC #8114 lead train 21-M west, through a late winter snowstorm, on the Reading Line, passing signals 292E_W and 291W_E at S. Seventh Street crossing in Emmaus, PA.
We drove into the yard in Artesia, Mississippi & I got this pix of the KCS 4684 - the color was gimpy, so I converted it to B&W with Photoshop Elements 13.

Norfolk Southern ES-44AC #8161 is reflected in the stainless steel of an F.M. Brown's Sons Inc. bulk flour trailer as it leads Doremus, NJ - Sterling Heights, MI intermodal train 11-N west on the Reading Line at Richmond Road / Rt. 663 crossing in Fleetwood, PA. The train is passing the former Fleetwood Metal Body Company factory which produced custom and production auto bodies in the town between 1909 and 1931.
A still freshly painted KCS ES44AC sits idle as the number two engine on an empty oil train at Lowell siding in Everett, WA.

Trains that consist of one type of rail car normally considered unit trains, on the LA/SLC route unit trains seem to be scarce but in late 2013 and early 2014 I caught a few.

BNSF ES-44AC 6189 (57686 b/d?) heads south with coal loads @ Centralia IL 12:07 PM CST 1-24-2013. The first time I took photos in Centralia, the railroad was CB&Q and the loaded coal trains were northbound and the southbounds were empties. Now it's the reverse but it seems like bringing Wyoming coal to Southern Illinois is like carrying coal to Newcastle.
Another difference: Burlington used SD-7's, painted black and gray, with "Everywhere West" on one side and "Way of the Zephyrs" on the other, on their coal trains through Centralia. Just ONE of these ES-44's lacks only 100 hp of putting out the same horsepower as THREE SD-7's. I wonder how many younger fans realize this.

NS ES-44AC 8098 (60752 2/2012), the Conrail Heritage unit, leads wb coal train @ Princeton IN 7:26AM CDT 6/23/2013 At last I ran into one of the Heritage Units--and it's the only one that doesn't LOOK like a Heritage Unit--so normal that my first reaction was: a Conrail that hasn't been repainted yet. None the other NS components ever rostered a widecab, two of them (VGN, INT) never had either an EMD or a GE diesel (barring the VGN's lone GE 44 tonner).
