After spending the previous day filming the Norfolk Southern Railroad, today I managed to see a Norfolk Southern engine leading a train for CSX! Here we have a Norfolk Southern ES-40DC leading a CSX ES44AH engine, as they pull a Southbound ethanol tanker car train through downtown Cartersville, GA on the old CSX Western & Atlantic (W&A) Subdivision.
Norfolk Southern Engine 7556 pulls an intermodal train southbound through Chambersburg PA. This ES-40DC was built in February of 2006 from what I've found online about it.
Labeled an ES-40DC, NS 7556 and UP 4989, an SD70M, pull a long intermodal train over the Willamette River at Westfir. Really enjoyed the nice sunshine even though it was chilly!
Train L303 (formerly D706) is a Grand Rapids, Michigan to Rougemere Yard (Dearborn, Michigan) daily train. After watching it leave Ensel Yard in Lansing, we caught up with the train 40 minutes later just east of the ADM Webberville grain elevator. The tracks leading off to the left connect the elevator to the CSX main.
Train L303 (formerly D706) is a Grand Rapids, Michigan to Rougemere Yard (Dearborn, Michigan) daily train. Seen here leaving the East end of Ensel Yard, it is a bit overpowered for a train only 821 feet long.
Davenport Industrial Railroad (DIR) is a Class III Shortline Railroad serving the Eastern Iowa Industrial Center and the Greater Quad Cities Area.
The 1202 was delivered to the DIR a few days after this photo was made.

For many years, the SP intermodal facility across the Mississippi from New Orleans sent and received many trains from California. This was just one of the more modern renditions, a Long Beach-bound stack train rolling on the Sunset Route through Houston. However, with the advent of PSR UP closed or downsized many of their smaller intermodal terminals. Avondale no longer sees trains of containers, though there are occasional cuts of well cars mixed in with manifest traffic.

With the Soo Line/Canadian Pacific overbridge in the background (connecting Humboldt and Shoreham yards), Norfolk Southern ES-40DC NS 7519 & SD60M BNSF 8144 depart Burlington Northern Santa Fe's Northtown Yard, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with a southbound manifest on September 1st, 2011. To the right is BNSF's 35st Yard.

Locomotive was at head of a train sitting on the Union Pacific tracks opposite the T&P Station. A little later, a train pulled by Norfolk Southern locomotives passed by on the tracks heading west. I am surprised to see trains pulled by NS locomotives in Texas, which is Union Pacific and BNSF country.
These three NS GE locomotives, the first two are D9-40CW's and a third an ES-40DC, lead a northbound mixed merchandise freight train out of Asheville onto the mainline on a bright sunny afternoon 4-20-09.
A freight headed by a Norfolk Southern ES-40DC and an old SD60 splits the difference between a Canadian Nation yard geep, and a Canadian Pacific GEVO as it move's through Canadian National's Schiller Park yard. Amazingly, because of the telephoto zoom I used, only the nose of the Norfolk Southern diesel is in perfect focus, despite using f/8.
One shot, three railroads--not bad.

With Norfolk Southern, 4,000 hp is more than enough horse power for one unit.

A rather boring wide-angle shot as NS 7594 slowly moves out of the CN yard. Anyway, this provides actual, visual proof that I really was just standing on the Schiller Park Metra station platform taking all these shots.

I don't think I could duplicate this photo in a million times. The rain just happened to reflect the beams of the ditch lights to create these fireworks as NS ES-40DC 7652 (57879 4/2007) leads a wb coal train out of Princeton IN 7:57AM CDT 9/29/2013
