The 1/4 second shutter on this fully flowing 47 foot waterfall worked well ... liked this point of view with all the pretty spring color.
JJL and I are perched high atop Cramer Tunnel as Erie Mining 4214 leads an empty train west and into the tunnel on Sept. 27, 1995. This was the unit that LTV put a home made air conditioner on, which was U-G-L-Y. We hated getting it in the lead. Fortunately when the unit was sold the new operators removed the a/c unit.
This beautiful waterfall is 47 feet (12 meters) tall and a wonderful sight to see. Named after the Native American tribes living on the shores of Lake Erie. These tribes had been destroyed before the year 1700 by war with settlers.

Was how Trains Magazine's September 1973 issue described its cover feature on Erie Mining. It was comparing it of course to the better known Erie Railroad. Here a perfect A-B-B-B set of "yellow" Erie's is on the approach to Murphy City on July 10, 1988. Unfortunately lead unit 4213 would be destroyed in the runway accident at Taconite Harbor in January 1997.
