A cactus (plural: cacti) is a member of the plant family Cactaceae, a family comprising about 127 genera with some 1750 known species of the order Caryophyllales. The word "cactus" derives, through Latin, from the Ancient Greek κάκτος, kaktos, Cacti occur in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Most cacti live in habitats subject to at least some drought. Many live in extremely dry environments, even being found in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on earth. Cacti show many adaptations to conserve water. Almost all cacti are succulents, meaning they have thickened, fleshy parts adapted to store water. Cacti are native to the Americas, ranging from Patagonia in the south to parts of western Canada in the north.

You cannot protect the environment unless you empower people, you inform them, and you help them understand that these resources are their own, that they must protect them.

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️❤️❤️

It is midday now, we are hiking for quite some time. One thing comes to view is that any tree in this environment is lonely. It makes stand in ore and admire persistence and energy to withstand harsh environment. Well done nature.

We need to encourage more bees in to our gardens! All it takes is to plant more bee loving flowers in our garden, like Cerinthe, which i am told by the bees is a favourite of theirs :)

It is a member of the bird family Columbidae (doves and pigeons). In common usage, this bird is often simply referred to as the 'pigeon'. The domestic pigeon descended from this species. Escaped domestic pigeons have raised the populations of feral pigeons around the world. Wild rock doves are pale grey with two black bars on each wing, whereas domestic and feral pigeons vary in colour and pattern. Few differences are seen between males and females. The species is generally monogamous, with two squabs (young) per brood. Both parents care for the young for a time. Habitats include various open and semi-open environments. Cliffs and rock ledges are used for roosting and breeding in the wild. Originally found wild in Europe, North Africa, and western Asia, pigeons have become established in cities around the world. The species is abundant, with an estimated population of 17 to 28 million feral and wild birds in Europe alone. 15770

The plastic drink bottles were removed by cropping and/or patching. Would that it were so easy to clean up the environment.

This image showcases an acorn surrounded by twisted, intricate roots, creating a mystical and organic scene. The lighting casts dramatic shadows, emphasizing the detailed texture and the connection between the seed and its environment, symbolizing growth and the mysteries of nature.

We returned last night from attending a wake for my husband's best friend who he had known since 4th grade to find that additional forest closures had been mandated related to the Pack Creek Fire to some of the areas where my husband and I recreate on a regular basis, in particular, Medicine Lake.

My husband is a Vietnam Veteran. Physical activity is his therapy. The back side of the La Sals provide a restorative environment where he can run, ski, bike, and hike. He clears deadfall and debris from running and bicycle trails in the spring and has bagged every peak in the range.

We live on the saddle of South Mountain and cut down dead aspen in the fall for firewood. We were married in the La Sals. The La Sal mountains are our life. The mountains are our medicine.

The genus Pan consists of two extant species: the common chimpanzee and the bonobo. Taxonomically, these two ape species are collectively termed panins; however, both species are more commonly referred to collectively using the generalized term chimpanzees, or chimps. Together with humans, gorillas, and orangutans they are part of the family Hominidae (the great apes, or hominids). Native to sub-Saharan Africa, common chimpanzees and bonobos are currently both found in the Congo jungle, while only the common chimpanzee is also found further north in West Africa. Both species are listed as endangered. Chimpanzees and bonobos are equally humanity's closest living relatives. As such, they are among the largest-brained and most intelligent primates: they use a variety of sophisticated tools and construct elaborate sleeping nests each night from branches and foliage. Their learning abilities have been extensively studied. 60741

A shot taken during sunset - guess its the last meal of the day before they get back to their nests. Maybe it is breeding, I need to check that out.

This male was feeding on the long pods and we sat in the car and watched it from start to finish, around 15 mins maybe. It first selected a ripe pod, then slowly walked down to the end, tore it open, tasted a few, liked it and continued to eat few more. There was a bit of wastage with the seeds falling on the ground, but that helps in generating more plants I suppose.

The bird is named after "Alexander The Great" who transported a large number of these back to Europe as gifts to various nobles.

Thanks in advance for your view / feedback / comments. Much appreciated.

A very polite notice ...

Thinking back to where I was ablout a year ago ... on my way to Jackson and the Tetons.

I don't generally shoot too many landscapes, but I find it hard to resist when the waters are so still and the skies are so clear and the reflections of the amazing landscape and environment are simply begging to be photographed. I'm sure that many of you can relate to giving in and capturing an image or two. Especially helpful during this period of rain, rain, rain.

I've learned to totally appreciate the moisture in Colorado ... I just wonder and wish ... why can't it be snow!!! LOL

Hope that everyone had a fabulous weekend.

Welcome to to the beach, a haven for dog walkers and coffee drinkers. A special congratulations on picking up your dog mess, only to lob it into the dunes and leave it in a bag for the next hundred years. Shame on you........

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is a large park with an eminent garden in Shinjuku and Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally a residence of the Naitō family in the Edo period. Afterwards, it became a garden under the management of the Imperial Household Agency of Japan. It is now a park under the jurisdiction of the national Ministry of the Environment.

The shogun bequeathed this land to Lord Naitō (daimyo) of Tsuruga in the Edo period who completed a garden here in 1772. After the Meiji Restoration the house and its grounds were converted into an experimental agricultural centre. It then because a botanical garden before becoming an imperial garden in 1879. The current configuration of the garden was completed in 1906. Most of the garden was destroyed by air raids in 1945, during the later stages of World War II. The garden was rebuilt after the war.

The jurisdiction over the Imperial Palace Outer Garden and the Kyoto imperial garden was transferred to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (now part of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) in 1947.

On May 21, 1949 the garden became open to the public as "National Park Shinjuku Imperial Gardens". It came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment in January 2001 with the official name "Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden".

Happy smile on Saturday!

These flowers are surely outside their natural environment as flowers naturally don't hang above the street. The image might have been better if I cut off the house walls but the rules said we should show where the photo was taken.

Sorry for bad quality, I only had my smartphone with me on this walk.

Many people associate lions with the grasslands of the Masai Mara or Serengeti. While those areas are great for seeing lions, there are also other environments where they can be seen. This image was captured in the Chobe National Park, Botswana during an extended drought in August 24.

At the top of the Wicklow Mountains, through the Scalp, there are many mountain pools. Some natural and some due to rewetting actions that are taking place in the peatlands that cover the mountains.

This is another shot of the egret I chased all over the place. I do think he enjoyed the "game" of playing tag with a human. And I was a sucker to go along with it. But little does he know, I got a pretty cool shot out of the deal. I just love this one of him perched and looking quite comfy in his natural environment.

Hope your week is going well. I am off work the rest of the week and plan to enjoy a nice long weekend in my natural environment......lol. Cheers :-)
