A rose of Sharon tree blooms.
DeKalb County (Forrest Hills), Georgia, USA.
31 July 2022.

▶ Photographer's note.
I missed sharp focus on the blossom (as opposed to the bud and sepal), but I like the overall look and, in particular, the bokeh of the background foliage.

we always take a day off for Saint Valentine's Day
and as always we went to Lago D'Orta, and we took a 6 kms walk!

A beautiful start to the New Year with a rare hoar frost although no light. Taken a few hundred yards from home, it was this twisting oak emerging from the frosted woodland edge that caught my eye. I can't remember such a cold New Year here in the south of England - beautiful conditions & lucky to have this on my doorstep given the conditions. Happy New Year to all.
On an unforgettable morning in East Greenland's Scoresby Sund, giant icebergs contrast against distant mountains which emerge ever so softly from clearing clouds.

This amorphous pink fungus emerging from the underside of rotten wood resembles a cluster of sea anemones.

The striped mullet isn't all that big but it put up quite a fight before the Osprey finally pulled it aloft on Horsepen Bayou.
I found this beauty yesterday when it was about midway through freeing itself from its exoskeleton. If I was still teaching, this would be an excellent series to illustrate metamorphosis as well as lay a foundation for the taxonomy of arthropods.
I watched it for about an hour or so and during that time it completely separated itself from the cast off naiad case . The last image was taken about 45 minutes after the first . The insect is completely free of the exoskeleton and is resting and letting its wings harden .
I think this is a female twelve spot but I am not as good on ID with odes as I am with birds or some of the other arthropods so I will gladly stand corrected.
