Heureuse de revoir ma petite bleue aujourd’hui..C’était mon adorable Jolicoeur ,…

Je sais que c’est lui, car comme il l’a toujours fait ,il m’a signalé qu’il arrivait.

Malheureusement la Baie vitrée était fermée et je l’ai vu de loin,je n’ai pas tenté de m’approcher ,de peur de le faire fuir ,sans pouvoir prendre la photo, même si elle est mauvaise...( très zoomée)...

Il est revenu ,mais des pigeons se sont trop approchés de lui et du coup il s’est envolé ,et il s’est posé quelques secondes sur mon arbre ,

il m’a fait quelques « tsi-tsi » pour me dire au revoir et il est parti rejoindre sa chérie »Sibelle »…

I'd previously shot another model, Elle here and used traditional Fresnel-focused incandescent spotlights to create this mood.

That was at night though and this time, during the day those lights are just nowhere near bright enough to get the mood and contrast required.

So this time, I'm using a couple of Godox AD200s with the Speedlight-type rectangular head.

I see a lot of, well quite frankly, bullshit, online, in videos and articles about how to make effective hard light and create that classic "Hollywood" look. Hard light only requires one thing: a small light source. The Fresnel lenses on those spotlights focus the light (and actually make it slightly softer when the light is spotted up as the lens becomes the light source rather than the bulb). They don't imbue the light with any magic qualities - they're merely an effective way of controlling the spread of light.

Once you have your small source, your next challenge is to control it without making it bigger. Silver reflector-dishes and softboxes with grids can all control the spread of light, but they also make the light bigger - and so, softer. Fresnel lenses achieve this on spotlights, but some suitably sized matt black barn doors will also do it, as will a matt black piece of card rolled up into a tube. These are the two methods I use with my AD200s to control the light, whilst keeping it small.

The results are an exact match for the spotlights. It's harder to work with flash when you need to precisely place the light as you can't see it until you take a picture. With practice though, you'll see the preview in your mind :)

Cette année, j'y suis enfin parvenu ! Après une première visite au milieu des années 1980, j'ai réussi à visiter à nouveau les Serres Royales de Laeken. Chaque année au printemps, elles sont ouvertes au public pendant trois semaines seulement et les billets se vendent assez rapidement, mieux vaut donc suivre les infos sur leur site et effectuer sa réservation dans les 48 heures suivant leur mise en ligne. Mais ça vaut vraiment le coup !

Le temps était peut-être médiocre aujourd'hui, mais l'expérience était quand même formidable. Je ne peux que fortement recommander à chacun de visiter cet endroit une fois dans sa vie.

Dit jaar is het mij eindelijk gelukt! Na een eerste bezoek in de jaren tachtig slaagde ik erin de Koninklijke Serres van Laken opnieuw te bezoeken. Elk jaar in de lente zijn ze slechts drie weken open voor het publiek en de kaartjes zijn vrij snel uitverkocht, dus je kunt beter de informatie op hun site volgen en je reservering maken binnen 48 uur nadat ze online zijn gegaan. Maar het is zeker de moeite waard!

Het weer was misschien middelmatig vandaag, maar de ervaring was nog steeds geweldig. Ik kan iedereen alleen maar aanraden om die plek eens in je leven te bezoeken.

This year I finally made it ! After a first visit back in the mid 1980's, I managed to visit the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken again. Each year in spring, they are open to the public during three weeks only and tickets are sold out quite quickly so you better follow the info on their site and make your reservation within 48 hours after they go online. But it's definitely worth it!

The wheather may have been mediocre today but the experience was still great. I can only highly recommend to visit that place once in your life.
