Hi! For the last few months I have fallen asleep relatively quickly but all of a sudden it is taking me much too long because I just have so many thoughts! That doesn't sound too bad to me, though :) This one is for my friends Shenaia and Isabella - thank you for making my day with your sweet comments about my pictures! Of course I had to upload tonight :)
Henry's elfin, Callophrys henrici, a little brown butterfly that I don't see very often. In Texas it occurs only in the early spring. Wildflower Center, Austin.
El Moro Elfin Forest,
Los Osos, California
On a warm morning with a few wildflowers out, it felt like spring was in the air.
02-21-15_MG_9128 Another shot on a different perch, Robert Salinas and I seen only one of these but were extremely luck to get so many shots and in low light and wind it was nice to get some keepers also :)
I found this butterfly today and was amazed by its beautiful colors, and intricate patterns. One blade of grass cast a shadow on the body but not those lovely wings. Ellis Bay Wildlife Management Area, Wicomico County, Maryland.

The first Brown Elfins (Callophrys augustinus) for 2021 have arrived. Patuxent Research Refuge, Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
I had seen a Pine Elfin down at Pardee Pond. Could not get a decent picture but then I found one in my son's yard!
Hiked to Elfin lakes the other day in Garibaldi Provincial Park. A nice 22km round trip. Used my go pro camera for this shot.

I have learned this is similar to a Frosted Elfin. However, the Elfin is native to North America. Unsure the species, but this one was 2 to 2.5 cm in size.

Another Hoary Elfin picture from the dunes at the IL Beach State Park. They were very accommodating. They are called "hoary" because of the white at the edges for their wings.

Hoary Elfin butterfly
Illinois Beach State Park, IL USA
These butterflies are more of a northern species and in Illinois are only found in the dunes along Lake Michigan. This tiny butterfly has a wingspan of one inch. They only fly for a couple weeks in early spring.
I think I saw at least 10 lifer butterflies on my trip. Sometimes just a quick drive up or down the hillside and mountain roads will yield different butterflies. Fallen Leaf Campground, Lake Tahoe
The 40mm 2.8 Micro from Nikon is loads of fun!
My 3rd explored photo, I feel spoiled. Thank you everybody for the support :)
This photo has taken over my previous Baseball Locker photo as my most viewed photo on flickr. I am very grateful that I have been able to share my photography with so many people!
I was overjoyed to be amidst a flurry of teneral Elfin Skimmers. One of the most adorable dragonflies they are almost too small to be discerned. You have to just watch in awe as they lift off into the grasses.
