Spring Polaroid Week 2023 Day 5, Picture 1
Polaroid 55 expired in 1969, EI25/15°, developed 60s@20°C
The negative also came out very nice, but you could see that I missed the focus, so I'm not uploading that.

This is my darling Juliet in the studio. This was shot with my Nikon FM and Tamron SP 135mm f/2.5 lens on Polypan F, rated at EI 25 and developed in Ichor film developer, 1:100, 21C, 10:00, 10 seconds/ minute agitation.
1958 Leica M2 with Leica Summarit-M 2.5/35mm on ADOX HR-50/Scala 50 at EI25 in my 2B-4 two bath developer for 3 mins A, 3 mins B @ 20C.
It's almost never that I've seen a DART cart this empty before. Even in the middle of the day there is someone on the train. But during Covid times there is no one! My friend Roland and I were the only ones in this car. The car behind had one person that we could see.
This was a trial run for HR-50 with my ascorbic acid two bath developer. I shot the film at EI25 after previous testing with my other two bath developer 2B-1. However, I could have shot this at 50 no problem in 2B-4, so I got some pretty dense negatives. Neverless, some of them look quite good, and this is one of them. I am really pleased with how the two bath handled the contrast.
There is a bit of light piping at the very bottom of the film. It's on a clear PET base and you better respect that! Otherwise you get piping.

I have not been to Dungeness for a while, so I took the opportunity to go recently in order to try out the camera and film.
I was pleased to find that the film is in perfect condition, despite being expired for over 32 years, as it had been frozen since new. It’s a very old style film which is complemented when processing in Orwo R09, the pre-1945 version of Rodinal.
I didn’t have long before the weather began to turn, so I will likely return when I have the chance.
1950s Balda Mess-Baldix with Enna Ennagon 3.5/75mm on Agfa RSX II 50 slide film (exp 2003) at EI25. E6 development by Blue Moon Camera and Machine. Lab scan.
I shot this in 2020 during the pandemic and then attempted to get it developed. In Ireland, it turns out that no one is doing E6 any more. So I held onto this roll and when I was in Portland this summer, I had Blue Moon develop it for me. Despite the age of the film, it came out great in E6. I have another roll, and will shoot the next one with a tripod. A few of these frames were a little blurry from being hand held with slow shutter speeds.
I like the way it looks quite vintage. Weird to see how deserted the streets were, though!

A few years ago my mother gave me a bunch of loaded slide magazines she picked up at a second-hand shop. When I first started digging into them I noticed a large amount of faded-to-magenta Ektachrome and figured there wasn't going to much of value left in the exercise of going through it all.
But then I came across the Kodachromes.
All were still in excellent condition - no fade, perfect color. I had a hunch the slides were dated sometime around the mid-70s, but it wasn't until I took them out of the slide holders that the date stamp was revealed: these were 51 year old slides I was looking at. I have no idea who the photographer is nor what kind of camera was used, but this is like holding jewels from another generation.

This is one of my favorite streets in Dublin because of all the Georgian houses, and the Luas light rail tracks running down it. The RSX II did a nice job with making the red doors pop here, I think. Shot in 2020, during the pandemic, almost no one was around and I think this might be the emptiest photo I've ever taken on this street. Sort of eery now to see how empty things were!

1958 Leica M2 with Leica Summarit-M 2.5/35mm on ADOX HR-50/Scala 50 at EI25 in my 2B-4 two bath developer for 3 mins A, 3 mins B @ 20C.
I shot this last weekend in Dun Laoghaire on the coast here in Dublin. This seems like a sign of the times. Shut pub, shut night club, and an abandoned shopping cart ("trolley" if I'm talking to locals). This is on a low slope.
I have been enjoying this film so far and it's working well in the two bath developers I've made. ADOX has done a nice job of taming the high contrast base film (AGFA Aviphot 80 aerial film) with their "speed boost" technology, giving it a more pictorial contrast. I've found that it's best in lower contrast lighting, however. Good thing I live in a country where it's often a low contrast day. I think the higher contrast film and the weather here are a good combo!

This was shot a week and a half ago in Dun Laoghaire ("Dunleary") on the coast here in Dublin. These is an old brutalist mall centered on this otherwise quite picturesque street. This is looking out from under it down the street. This box seems to house some kind of big shut off valve!
I have been pretty happy with this roll of HR-50/Scala 50. I had originally bought it to test with reversal, but have enjoyed it as a negative film in my two baths. I will probably order more! 100ft of it is not that expensive as films go these, days, either.

This is another frame from the roll of ADOX HR-50/Scala 50 that I put through my 2B-4 two bath while testing. I shot this last weekend in Dun Laoghaire, on the coast here in Dublin. I like some of these old buildings that are finished in this same gray stucco everywhere. The hand painted sign warning not to park was a nice touch.
I've been working on two bath developers and have had several iterations. This one is pretty good but I've discovered that it's not working how it ought to over several films. So I will keep iterating!
