It's now solid sets of these boring dash two's to look forward to now.

Testing a new Tamron 70-300mm Sony E mount lens. It is much too hot and humid to be walking around outside, so I am setting on the patio and shooting whatever I see. I am looking forward to a bit cooler weather so I can try it in various locations.
Known as a DFW or dead freight west for dealing with local pickup and set outs. 635 was picked up at Three Forks for service at Deer Lodge.
I waited a bit too long to snap the photo and got the crossarm right into the plow of the lead Joe. Thanks to Paint Shop I digitally sawed off the pesky crossarm that bothered me from the day I got this slide.back from Kodak.

Half a dozen RR buses have been stationed at BX now as RR are suffering severely with driver shortages alongside staff sadly losing their life. E55/6 were originally BX vehicles and E70/2 were AL ones. These as quite evident were covering the peak trips on the 5, being laid over in BX for the meantime. E65 is another at BX being on the 101 which BX is covering full duties for.

After spotting this train arriving at Three Forks for a crew change we made a high-speed run to this place. We didn't quite have enough time to set up to get over the pole forest but caught a great sucker hole. Good with the bad. slow Kodachrome 25 film didn't help much either.

E70, the sole survivor of the 12 class EF-4's purchased by the Milwaukee Road, sits on static display in Deer Lodge, Montana.
Earning their nickname by Milwaukee Road employees as the "Little Joseph Stalin's locomotives", later shortened to "Little Joe", 20 of these 5,530hp twelve-axle electric locomotives were built by General Electric for export to the Soviet Union. Following the end of World War II, the Soviet railways continued their expansion of electrification and ordered these, however, deteriorated relations between the United States and the Soviet Union resulted in the Cold War and subsequently strategic goods being exported were banned. GE built these locomotives with no owner.
Initially, all 20 were purchased by the Milwaukee Road for $1m, however, the board of directors never released the money. After some time, the board returned to GE to find 8 were now sold and purchased the remaining 12 for the same price.
Today, 5 of the 20 built remain, with this being the only example of a Milwaukee EF-4. Two of the three modified versions sold to the South Shore Line are preserved and two of the five that went to Brazil are also preserved.

A racoon we noticed raiding our birdfeeder in the back yard. I had to move to about five feet of it while waving my arms and yelling at it to move on. It begrudgingly climbed slowly down the fence and walked away. About three minutes after I returned to the house, it was back up there. My wife went out and ran it off and hid the birdfeeder for the rest of the day.

On the way back home to Fort Madison, Iowa, from a July 1969 quickie excursion to the Northwest, I stopped at Deer Lodge, Montana, to see what was around. Luckily, the shop area was full of electrics. Other than a few NP's on the way east, this was the last hoorah of this memorable trip.
On July 26, 1969, Joes E70, E77 and box cab E34B line up nicely. A set of box cabs can be seen in the distance at left. Incidentally, the E70 is presently on display at Deer Lodge. Photo by Joe McMillan.
