It was a peaceful evening at a favorite spot as this storm rolled away into the sunset. Nighthawks chirped through the air and there was not even a sound of distant thunder.

The guide said as I leaned out to take this a long way above the Octagon at the crossing of Ely Cathedral. You can just see people down there. We walked up 3 spiral stone staircases to reach this point. The guide explained the first stone tower collapsed so they rebuilt the top of the lantern tower in wood to be lighter. But the oak trees cut to support the tower are now 600 years old and the floor creaks a bit as you walk around up there. Fortunately they did some strengthening 200 years ago but then that wood is getting old too ... :)
