After walking for hours over the monotonous rock, just at the time when motivation was needed, we rounded the corner and the Nuns Veil Glacier came in to view. It was a little thinner than expected but looked like an exciting prospect!

I wanted to stop and gaze at the view and take in the route up the glacier but the rocky path in front of us allowed no such pleasure, and, wanting to get in to camp as early as possible I stopped only long enough to get a pic of Conor dwarfed by the mountains in front of us.

The sight of the glacier was also good news as it meant we were approaching the bivvy rock that was meant to be at the head of the glacier, but with the glacier apparently receding, just where this bivvy rock was no one actually knew.

This dwarf moray was not intimidated by my close approach. He kept his tiny jaws wide open and didn't back down at all. Dwarf morays reach a maximum length of 12 inches.

Zinnia x hybrida

Zinnia x hybrida cultivars are a cross between Zinnia elegans and Zinnia angustifolia. They have the short, compact size and profuse flowering of the former and the disease resistance of the latter. Flowers average between 2 and 3 inches in diameter.

Zinnia x hybrida is considered a dwarf group -- they have been bred to be much shorter and bushier than the species plants.

An old photo from back when I was uninspired and away from Flickr, but still felt the need to take pictures of things sometimes. Most of the photos I have from that period were uploaded to iNaturalist and I do not think they are interesting enough to upload here, but there are some exceptions like this one.

Tropaeolum minus (Dwarf nasturtium) identified by label at the the Bergianska trädgården (the Bergian Garden), a botanical garden located on the outskirts of Stockholm.

Tropaeolum minus, the dwarf nasturtium is a species of perennial plant in the Tropaeolaceae family. It is endemic to mountainous regions of Ecuador and Peru.

Tropaeolum minus was the first Nastutium to appear in European gardens. It was already widespread in the 16th century, and hence it must have been among the first american plants to be cultivated widely in European gardens.

It is a smaller species tha T. majus L., the well known garden nasturtium, and has lost popularity since the latter was introduced.
