The pontoon bridge(Koningin Emmabrug or Queen Anna Bridge) over the St. Anna Bay in Willemstad, Curacao is opening to let a ship pass. Once used for vehicles but now for pedestrians since the Koningin Julianabrug was built. Historic downtown Willemstad is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The original bridge was built in 1888. It was restored in 2005. Windward side of the island of Aruba. The wind on this side can be deafening. This side of the island takes the brunt of the wind and sea. Usually a steady seven knot wind blowing to the north leaves one side of the trees bare with all the leaves pointing to the north. If you ever get lost just look at a tree. It'll point to Palm Beach. Today the wind was a little stronger. These swells are about 12+ feet high. The leeward side up by Palm Beach is calm with barely any wind or waves. It is a beautiful island that rarely gets rain prompting them to have a water desalination plant that is one of the best in the world.
I couldnt believe my eyes as I stood watching this guy.....it was as if he was posing for me....just stretched out his wings as if to say "look at me".....or, "I think I'll head back to my sun lounger for a wee nap"!!

This is a great place to spend the day and watch the floating bridge. Check out the shops on the many side streets behind the colorful buildings.
