Down by the river Wear in the centre of Durham in north east England. The city centre is on higher ground above the river valley, so down here although you're only a few minutes from the bustle of city life, you're in a tranquil and peaceful part of town. A lovely riverside walk.
Climbing the tower. The 325 steps start in the South Transept and then you go through a passage in the Transept roof to the central tower where the climb continues. This old sign is painted on the wall at the start of the central tower section, but has been covered in a glass frame to protect it.

Durham Castle is a Norman castle in the city of Durham, England, which has been wholly occupied since 1840 by University College, Durham. It is open to the general public to visit, but only through guided tours, since it is in use as a working building and is home to over 100 students. The castle stands on top of a hill above the River Wear on Durham's peninsula, opposite Durham Cathedral
Cloister East side. Unfortunately restoration work on all four corners of the cloister prevented the classic wide angle "corner" shot .

Happy weekend to everyone.
