Rides from a traveling amusement park. My intention was to capture the stunning light trails emitted from them.
My goal on this shot was to capture multiple rides moving at the same time. For the duration of time that I was there, it didn't happen. As I was leaving with my tripod already packed, it happened. Many of the rides were spinning at the same time. I quickly grabbed my camera and placed it on top of the car. Had to crop off a large part of the hood and this is the result. I was lucky. :)

5:52 An Event (I did not add or enhance the light burst).
A very good friend gave us tickets to the hockey game last Saturday night at the ACC in Toronto (a $320 value). It was a game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens. I chose to bring my telephoto lens because we would be sitting high above the rink for the game. Our flag is sent out for the fans to carry and move above them for the duration of the singing of the national anthem before the start of the game. It is wonderful to see on TV but even more so in person. My lens got confiscated after the first period of play because it was over the 75 mm rule allowed in the arena by the league. Luckily I had taken 275 shots prior to that! No worries as I picked up my lens at the end of the game which my team won in a final shoot-out. The final score was 3-2.

Snow Bunting - Plectrophenax Nivalis
Snow buntings are large buntings, with striking 'snowy' plumages. Males in summer have all white heads and underparts contrasting with a black mantle and wing tips. Females are a more mottled above. In autumn and winter birds develop a sandy/buff wash to their plumage and males have more mottled upperparts.
Globally, they breed around the arctic from Scandinavia to Alaska, Canada and Greenland and migrate south in winter. They are a scarce breeding species in the UK, in Scotland, making them an Amber List species. They are more widespread in winter in the north and east when residents are joined by continental birds.
They are listed under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife & Countryside Act.
The snow bunting lives in very high latitudes in the Arctic tundra. There is no apparent limit to its northern range, while the southern range is limited by the duration of daylight, which influences their reproductive activity. This species is found in the high Arctic tundra of North America, Ellesmere Island, Iceland, higher mountains of Scotland, Norway, Russia, North Greenland, Siberia, Novaya Zemlya, and Franz Josef Land. During the winter, this bird migrates to the circumglobal northern temperate zone including the south of Canada, north of the United States, north of Germany, Poland, Ukraine, and east to central Asia. During the last ice age, the snow bunting was widespread throughout continental Europe.
During the breeding period the snow bunting looks for rocky habitats in the Arctic Since the vegetation in the tundra is low growing, this bird and its nestlings are exposed to predators, and in order to ensure the survival of its offspring, the snow bunting nests in cavities in order to protect the nestlings from any threat. During this period, buntings also look for a habitat rich in vegetation such as wet sedge meadows and areas rich in dryas and lichens. In the winter, they look for open habitats such as farms and fields where they feed on seeds in the ground.

Autumn, also known as fall in North American English, is one of the four temperate seasons. Autumn marks the transition from summer to winter, in September (Northern Hemisphere) or March (Southern Hemisphere), when the duration of daylight becomes noticeably shorter and the temperature cools considerably. One of its main features in temperate climates is the shedding of leaves from deciduous trees. Some cultures regard the autumnal equinox as mid-autumn, while others with a longer temperature lag treat it as the start of autumn. Meteorologists (and most of the temperate countries in the southern hemisphere) use a definition based on Gregorian calendar months, with autumn being September, October, and November in the northern hemisphere, and March, April, and May in the southern hemisphere. 21421

The wisest person might know not to make deals with the fae. They would know not to drink or eat of the fruit of their land and to choose their words carefully lest a deal be formed. Still, desire runs deep and arrogance is the downfall of humans. The sisters lay in wait, prepared with a feast of temptation for those too foolish to heed the warnings.

The Paris-Dakar Rally begins, one of the toughest races with a duration of fifteen days. This year, vehicles that replace fossil fuels with other systems are introduced, this hard journey being a kind of test laboratory for them. Let's hope they have a good result because they can be the fuels of tomorrow!

When I consider the short duration of my life, swallowed up in an eternity before and after, the little space I fill engulfed in the infinite immensity of spaces whereof I know nothing, and which know nothing of me, I am terrified. The eternal silence of these infinite spaces frightens me… {Pensées, Blaise Pascal 1670}

I love the small details of these old photographs, sometime only apparent after several glances. What about: the bulldog brooch on the lady, or the two plasters on the fingers of the officer. Or his neatly arranged pocket pens? Maybe the best feature is the relief of the lady through her smile that she, albeit incarcerated, is where she wants to be: safe.

Go away, leave me alone
I feel your presence in my mind
The time seems to stop
I set you free
You calm my mind
You calm my mind
Make my dreams come true, baby
Every time it seems to me
That fiction and reality
Melt together for eternity
Liquid words dropping down the stairs
Filling the emptiness with sense
You and me on the floor
Floating on our sensibility
You need a Timekiller and you don't understand
I am like quicksand, lick it from my hand
I am your Timekiller, I'll let your mind expand
I am like quicksand, lick it from my hand
Tick tock
Tick tock
Madness comes tonight
What's reality compared to me
I rest on the bed and I'm sure I slowly get mad
I'm in a state of mind
Which makes me blind
For the fact that I'm a man
I'm here to stay forever but not today
You need a Timekiller and you don't understand
I am like quicksand, lick it from my hand
I am your Timekiller, I'll let your mind expand
I am like quicksand, lick it from my hand
You need a Timekiller and you don't understand
I am like quicksand, lick it from my hand
I am your Timekiller, I'll let your mind expand
I am like quicksand, lick it from my hand
In my heart is no place for you
And in my mind is no space for you
The exit already melted away
And now there's nothing left to say
You need a Timekiller and you don't understand
I am like quicksand, lick it from my hand
I am your Timekiller, I'll let your mind expand
I am like quicksand, lick it from my hand

Madonetta lighthouse
The Madonetta lighthouse is located west of Bonifacio in Corse-du-Sud. It marks the entrance to Bonifacio's gorge from the west to the tip of the Timon, to the east. It is part of the island's second lighting program, supplementing the device with the citadel's headlights at the port of Ajaccio, the Dragon at the port of Bastia; the lighthouse of the Lavezzi Islands completing this phase of the work. It is built on a 28 meter cliff. It is so named because the fishermen have installed, in a niche facing the sea, a small statue of the Virgin (Madonetta: little Madonna). This lighthouse lit for the first time on August 15, 1854, six months after the largest shipwreck the Mediterranean had ever experienced, that of the "Sillillante" that occurred on February 15, 1855, but also in the midst of the Asian cholera epidemic which, on the 15th. August to September 15, 1854, killed nearly 200 victims. It is a small lighthouse remarkable for its beauty on its triangular white rock, facing the sea. Its fire (halogen lamp) is 7 miles (13 kilometers). Red light isophase of 4 seconds (1 light every 4 seconds - isophase: light duration equal to the duration of darkness). The lighthouse is automated and does not visit.
Although this image was created in the late Fall, with it's theme being the ancient Greek story of the descent of Persephone into Hades which provides a mythological basis for the disappearance of warmth from the Earth, I'm posting it now. With all the many things that can get in the way of one's plans it never got posted back then.
Yet, it's now that Persephone should be making her way OUT of Hades and back up to the surface of the Earth in order to bring about Spring and Summer that I do. So here it is, at the flip end of her story - a descending image timed to meet her ascending actuality. Besides, it was time to post a few human figures / faces again - it's been awhile.
This is number 1 of 2 images, the right panel of a diptych. This image is of Persephone herself, while number 2 is the face that greets her as she enters the Underworld for the duration of Fall and Winter.

Apple Blossom is appropriately named as the colours of its large trumpet-shaped flowers are so very similar to the white and delicate pink of apple blossom. This reliable elegant variety has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit in recognition of its qualities.
Its foliage is also quite ornamental.
***
The first day of flowering for the third time of the year.
Some consider it the 'Brazilian tulip'.
***
Hippeastrum, or amaryllis, are most commonly grown as flowering houseplants. The bulbous plants hail from South Africa, and bear four to six large flowers on a tall, light green hollow stem.
It’s easy to force amaryllis bulbs to flower indoors, and once they’ve finished flowering they can be stored and encouraged to flower the following year.
Hippeastrum ‘Apple Blossom’ bears attractive white-green flowers tinged with pink. For best results, grow at room temperature, around 20°C in a well-lit room, in the sunniest position you can give it. Water sparingly at first, increasing the amount as the flower stems develop.
***
A trick: when amaryllis opens its flowers, you can cut the immature pollen, that is, before it starts to turn yellow. Just go there on the antennae of the flower core and, with scissors, cut them.
There are three good reasons for you to do this:
1 - pollen stains clothing;
2 - it decreases the duration of the flowers;
3 - pollen is toxic, if ingested, mainly, by pets.
I do not follow these suggestions. I like bees, hummingbirds and other insects visiting them.
1 - I don't care about stains on clothes;
2 - Death is natural, it will die anyway;
3 - I don't have pets.

This image of a female Northern Cardinal was captured in my backyard outdoor studio.
Three SB-800 flash units were set to 1/32 power to create an approximate flash duration of 1/18,000th of a second. The camera captured the image when the bird flew through a laser beam trigger. A fourth flash unit mounted on the camera fired the other lights in sync via Nikon CLS.

so, for the duration
I wait
and let our souls commune
in those visits we cannot remember
except as purple dreams
an equal sadness

Blue Jays are on the move !
Some of the blue jays you see in your yard during the winter might not be the same individuals you see during the summer. Some blue jays migrate. Some opt not to, and stay on their breeding territory for the duration of the winter. Some that spend the winter in your yard might be migrants that breed farther north, and those that breed in your neighborhood might have headed south. Some jays head south some years, but not every year.

Всем моим русским друзьям, что бы вам ни говорило ваше правительство, против Украины идет неспровоцированная кровавая война, в которой погибло много людей с обеих сторон. Сделайте все возможное, чтобы остановить убийства!
