This is my friend Eileen and her 'son' Duke.
Eileen is a carer in the unweened kitten network. She hand raises stray or abandonded kittens and finds homes for adult cats and dogs needing homes.
She got Duke and his brothers from Dreamworld staff. They had their umbilical cords attached and were only days old. She hand raised Duke and dusk, unfortunatly the third one that fell of the roof, which lead to their discovery, did not make it.
Eileen still has the two brothers, who think she is their mother. She has raised many other kittens and found new loving homes for them.
This shot was also used for our club comp topic of hands.
I took a gamble and travelled down to Totternhoe for the day, the main hope being to see the elusive Duke of Burgundy butterfly.
I met Mervyn (and Brenda) from Edinburgh who had come with the same objective and they spotted one and came to tell me.
The Duke of Burgundy butterflies were very territorial and once found were around regularly throughout my visit. I saw I think four of them in total, taking many photos.
Closed winged photos were much harder to get, but in fact came out better. This is my favourite photo from the trip.
One of the more interesting (IMHO) infrastructure sights on the Duke University campus is this actual traffic circle, which intersects Chapel Dr, Campus Dr, Flowers Dr, and Wannamaker Dr.

Duke Farms serves as a model of environmental stewardship and inspires visitors to become informed stewards of the land. It is a place of education, enjoyment and research that enhances the environmental health of the region.
In 1996, I played a lot of Duke Nukem 3D with Cory and other friends over a networked SERIAL cable (pre-LAN for me) cable at my apartment out of college. The game was a blast, and was as fun as Doom and Quake we also played at the time. Duke Nukem 4 was supposed to come out about 8 times since then, and is now 15 years in the making.
It officially comes out in the US tomorrow, but was able to play it a bit a day early. So is it worth a 15-year wait? Unfortunately, no. The game is actually just a sad, non-innovative re-hash of the earlier game. Likely, it would have been better if everyone was left with the memory of the original.
You can (sort of) interact with the environment as is seen in this picture of Duke's apartment. This was cool back in 1996 when it was first done, but has been done in countless games since then, and done much better. It's the first game I've played since Bioshock, so at least it was fun to get in some PC gaming again.
The Duke Global Health Institute hosted a special Halloween party for staff and master's students at Trent Hall. We had a spirited group of costume contest winners, which included students, staff and global health faculty members.

The year 2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the Van Morrison classic, Astral Weeks. It's a landmark recording, a mixture of jazz and soul and Celtic lyricism. Tracks such as Cyprus Avenue, Madam George and Beside You are deeply rooted in Belfast life, just before the outbreak of the Troubles. The record is fascinating and inspiring on so many levels. It often features in the "all-time classic" lists of journalists and music fans.
With this in mind, a series of Irish performers will play the album in sequence. Music journalist and broadcaster Stuart Bailie will open the event with a talk about the record's inception and will introduce each track with notes about the lyrics and the musical context.
This was held in the Black Box at 2pm and again in the Oh Yeah Building at 8pm.
The Duke of... Northumberland maybe, overseeing the lists on horseback at the joust. Some re-enactors ar Hampton Court Palace.
Recently named one of the world's most quirky tourist sites, it's rare to see the Duke of Wellington Statue in Glasgow without his traffic cone on top...a perfect example of Glasgow humour!
Nate moved to New Mexico. He had a small going away party.

I have wondered for a while about Duke after seeing him sing at a local radio station and being left totally unmoved by the experience. Last night has changed my opinion. I won't say that it was the best gig i have ever been to but i enjoyed it much more than i expected too. If i'm honest i wanted to see the vaudeville acts and have a few pints with friends. I was very pleasantly surprised by the interaction between the band and audience and his songs are perfect for a sing a long. A strangely unplifting night and I'm glad i got to see and experience Duke Special.
This fortified tower was actually part of the Duke Pit fan house which ventilated the coal mine with a large guibal fan. The concrete section behind was hastily put in after the building was partly demolished in the 1960's before its heritage importance was realised.
