The Jones family adopted our puppy Duke. This is fantastic photo taken by Melanie Plummer, a professional photographer, at Petco. It shows how beautiful the girls are and how handsome Duke is.

Duke Farms is the estate of James Buchanan Duke, of Duke Power and American Tobacco Company, and inherited by his daughter Doris Duke.

 

Located on 2,700 acres (11 km²) of farm and wood lands in Hillsborough, New Jersey, the property was opened to the public on May 19, 2012 by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation as "a model of environmental stewardship in the 21st Century and (to) inspire visitors to become informed stewards of the land."

On the left is County Hall, shrouded in tarpaulins for a facelift. The remodelled rail station is just visible in the distance. In front of the station, is a tree that was preserved when Dorset House and M&G house were built on an old brewery site. The brewery went some time earlier, but the Lion&Lamb remained, becoming Binns Banqueting Lounge. It then went through a succession of names: The Rendezvous, La Duquessa etc and when I was a teen it was a favourite rendezvous point for people going to Dukes Nightclub.

This statue of Duke, is right in the heart of Waikiki Beach. The inscription below the statue reads, in part:

 

Raised in Waikiki, Duke was a full blooded Hawaiian, who symbolized Hawaii to millions of people. He developed into an Olympic champion and the world's fastest swimmer. Between 1912 and 1932 he won three gold medals, two silver and a bronze in four Olympics. He is known as the: "Father of International Surfing."
