Mandarin ducks in Britain are the descendants of captive-bred ducks which escaped or were deliberately released. Mandarins are one of the few duck species which are not hunted for food - apparently they taste really bad!
This Ruddy Duck drake, fitted in his gorgeous breeding plumage, looks so formal with his head and neck back and his tail feathers in salute mode. I found him while visiting family back in February.

Eating duck weed. This little one was adopted by a Wood Duck mother and three of her babies. Sure hope he makes it! Family pictures later.

A very common duck in the tundra. It was hard to take a good picture though, since they were pretty shy.
