Visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to The Fire Station, Sunderland.
The building used to be the former Dun Cow Street Fire Station. It was closed and stood derelict for 25 years. Now, it's being restored and turned into the cultural hub of the city. Phase one has been completed and phase two, the building of a brand new auditorium, starts later this year.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were invited to come along and perform the official opening as well as have a tour and talk to some of the youngsters and people who are part of the city's developing cultural network.
Here the Duchess of Cambridge is meeting and chatting with some of the 100's of people who have gathered outside in the Spring-like sunshine.

A traditional British phonebox in Windsor that has been decorated with royal images by the TV personality and artist Timmy Mallett. The images include the Duchess of Cambridge (seen here), Prince Harry, the Queen and a union jack. The phonebox was one of many decorated to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

The digital mosaic of a British Army private killed during World War One was created using more than 30,000 images.
Photographs of thousands of people taken at BBC World War One at Home Live events were used to make the image of 23-year-old Pte James Ernest Beaney.
Pte Beaney was born on 16 April 1893 in Battersea, London.
Before joining The Queen's Regiment (Royal West Surrey Regiment) in August 1914, he worked as a plumber's mate.
He was sent to France in May 1915 and was serving with D Company, 6 Battalion near Martinsart Wood, France, when he was killed on 8 August 1916.
He was buried nearby in Bouzincourt Communal Cemetery Extension.
His mother Maria chose the following inscription for his headstone: "He bravely answered Duty's call and died so nobly for us all."
This is outside the BBC's New Broadcasting House offices in London.
More than 30,000 photographs were used to make the image of Pte Beaney which included:
•20,000 photographs from the BBC's World War One at Home Live Events
•800 original World War One portrait images from The Imperial War Museums
•240 public submissions of World War One images
•Some of the images in the mosaic have been repeated

OK, I am not the keenest person on the Royal Wedding things, but this sketch had to be done in memory of the day (after all, I did snooker yesterday).
So... technically, this was done with Brushes on my iPad. after the picture everyone must have seen on the BBC website. I missed the head size by quite a bit, but I am rather happy with the texture of the dress, and the DoF effect in the background.
This was made in much more than 10 min, a 10 min version will follow soon :-)
I need to get some lessons from the very talented iPad junkie, who also uses Brushes... I find it a bit more convenient than artRage for things like zooms and brush acceleration, but not quite there regarding mixing paints.

Their Excellencies The Right Honourable David Johnston Governor General and Commander-in-chief of Canada and Mrs. Sharon Johnston, Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Along with thousands of Canadians and visitors, the Prime Minister and the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages attended the Canada Day Noon Show on Parliament Hill, in Ottawa on July 1st, 2011.
His Excellencty received military honors and inspected the guard as part of the Celebration.
The 2011 Royal Tour will take place from June 30 to July 8, 2011. The theme of the tour is ìMoving Forward Together: From Past Accomplishments to Current Service to Future Achievements.î

The Sanctuary is a Grade II listed Gothic style building and was built in 1854 by the prominent Victorian Architect, Sir George Gilbert Scott.
It is situated adjacent to the main entrance of Westminster Abbey, close to the junction of Victoria Street with Parliament Square. St James’s Park and Westminster.
The historic Deans Yard is just behind it.
