Just lying around, waiting to be chewed or spit out or consumed whole....kinda like marriage.

Make Mine a Dubble

Oh come on. If they didn't want us to do this, then they wouldn't make the cap so easy to twist off and the coin bank so hard to undo.

Now, let's turn the knob (or reach right in) and see which cliches come out...

- It's a bubble gum dispenser. Need I say more

- Finding a new angle for a well-worn cliche

- Cloning in an extra piece just because I felt like it...and Dubble Bubble should be exponential

- Nostalgic brands that stand the test of time (which is more than I can say for the flavour...these really only seem to be good for about 5 chews!)

Happy Cliche Saturday! There are some days when a simple smile and a comforting dose of the familiar goes a long way.

Economy Candy on Rivington St. They've got a website, if you've got a sweet tooth...

yes, that's actually the name of the candy store in my hometown, run by Wanda Horvak..a 70-plus expatriate of Brooklyn. This was my annual loading up before Halloween in NYC. Handing out candy watches and saying "it's candy o'clock" never fails to make me chuckle. It's also an enforced store rule that you must take a wicker basket off the coat rack and put your candy inside..which is then unceremoniously dumped out as pictured above to be tallied a nickel and dime at a time.

Taken at The Soda Shop during a photostroll I had with cobalt123. She had pointed out the bottled water, with its unique brand name and slogan, and I wanted to take a picture of it. I set it on the counter and snapped away, but the background ended up being of more interest to me than the beverage.

I placed the pack of Blackjack gum atop the bottle in order to include it in the image. This was the first time I had even seen it in more than 30 years. I am the only person in my family who likes black licorice, and my wife makes some interesting faces whenever I mention to her that I enjoyed Blackjack gum. I took two packs of it home with me from this photostroll, and both are gone now. (For reasons adequately explained above, I had both packs entirely to myself!)

It has also been awhile since I have seen Dubble Bubble gum, which was part of being a kid in America back in the 1950s and 1960s. I used to chew it, too, although to this day I do not know how to blow bubbles with bubble gum. (Since I don't often chew any kind of gum anymore, that is a skill I will probably never learn.) Half the fun of Dubble Bubble was finding and reading the "Bazooka Joe" comic strip that was included with every package. Bazooka Joe wasn't quite "Calvin & Hobbes," but I liked him anyway.

and it got bigger.....Am I full of hot air or what?:

BAM! bites the dust of another bubble. Don't I look fabulous?

wow i had such a big bubble! i desaturated this a tad. i just wish the sun hadnt given a glare on the wrapper.

for a late-summer road trip to a Professional Conference.

The A/C no va, which is a drag for driving to NOLA in August, but I got beaucoup bubble gum and no mistake.

Candy, candy everywhere... At Dylan's Candy Bar in NYC. I got my friend some Bacon flavored Floss but it ended up smelling like butt. I got another friend chocolate covered marshmallows and oreos and I got myself gummy bears and gummy "sea life" haha. It was all so good but I think it gave me a cavity and I gained a couple pounds Im sure.

Cringe-inducing photo (in my opinion): huge gumballs (regardless of freshness) make my teeth hurt just by looking at them; throw in the name "cotton candy" and you've got a trip to the dentist!
