Did dry cleaning ever involve bad odors?

I found this place in a little strip mall next to The Tavern, in Austin.

It's a simple, colorful little sign. What made me shoot it was the way the shadows play on the sign.

A view from the side where my father's place is shows how completely the structure was burned.

I have yet to figure out how this cleaner works. It is conveniently located on our street in Kampala, Uganda so I will have to try it out soon.

Friday morning I went to pick up my suit from the drycleaner and took my camera with me. I wanted to document the old equipment in this 100 year old shop in an old house in Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary - the shop was started by the grandfather of the current owner, who is also 70 years old and may not continue this business for long.

He has a drycleaner shop in Nea Makri for 47 years, and used the same clothes press machine

Based on their sign alone, I'm not too sure I'd want to go to Dirk's.

For example: "Drapes, Our Specialty", meaning we do drapes well, but everything else is a crap shoot. Again, from their sign, they bill themselves as "fine dry cleaning"...Yeah, that's reassuring; "So, tell me, how's your dry cleaning?" "It's fine". "Fine"...that's a ringing endorsement.

I do like the owl on top of the sign though.
