Simply a classic. The Ballard covers were among the finest in Penguin's range of SF covers, but in general Penguin redefined cover art at the time. Sadly, if anything, SF book cover art has slid backwards since.

My favorite #Madonna album turns 20 today ! Can't believe I was only 10 years old when #RayOfLight came out... By the time I didn't know a thing about this amazing woman and I couldn't imagine her music will have so much impact in my life. O videoclipe da canção foi dirigido por Walter Stern e filmado em Agosto de 1998 nas proximidades do Hotel Savoy de Londres. Mostra Madonna a deixar a sua casa, sendo perseguida por paparazzi. Madonna surge depois numa festa observada por pessoas que são deformadas (talvez por inveja), terminando com o seu regresso a casa, onde encontra a paz nos braços da filha (representada no video por uma actriz chamada Mirim, não sendo a filha de Madonna, Lourdes Maria).
A polémica resultante do video surgiu da comparação das cenas de perseguição nos últimos momentos de vida da Princesa Diana, que também estava sendo perseguida por fotógrafos em motos quando sofreu o acidente fatal no Túnel das Almas em Paris a 31 de Agosto de 1997. De acordo com Madonna, o videoclipe não estava relacionado com Diana de Gales, mas sim com a sua própria vida.
O videoclipe estreou na Europa no dia 25 de Julho de 1998; no Brasil surgiu com um ano de atraso, tendo sido pouco exibido, e nos Estados Unidos só esteve disponível na colectânea The Video Collection 93:99.

Dado que o segundo single de Ray of Light (a faixa com o mesmo nome) foi lançado com um mês de atraso nos Estados Unidos, a editora discográfica de Madonna decidiu lançar Drowned World/Substitute for Love como single apenas na Ásia e na Europa, antes do lançamento do terceiro single, The Power of Good-Bye.
A canção começa com uma voz masculina que diz You See;, frase retirada do tema Why I Follow The Tigers; interpretada pelo grupo The San Sebastian Strings;. É uma canção na qual a cantora reflecte sobre a fama, que lhe proporciona várias coisas, mas que a limita e faz com que fique desconfiada da verdadeira intenção das pessoas.
