Because of work, I have travelled quite a bit in life. Some might say too much (those are also the sorts of people who say things like "grow up and get a real job" and "stop being silly and take that traffic cone off your head". ) The irony is that because of doing so much travelling about on ships, I am 26 years old and don't have a driving license. 26 damn it and I still have no driving license! The only thing sadder than being 26 and having no driving license is being 27 and having no driving license and thus I am attempting to rectify this looming situation. Today I passed my theory test (50 out of 50 if you must know...) This literature from BSM is helping to persuade me that driving is very much the way forward and who knows, one day soon I may be crashing into a fence-post near you...

It's been a while since I uploaded anything! School has seriously taken up so much of my time, but I'm enjoying the challenge :) I hope you're all well too!

A couple of things have changed in recent weeks...

I turned 17 back on the 20th and I passed my driving test almost a month ago!!

This extra little bit of freedom is definitely making me feel much more inspired.

As is well known, the B10M was a hugely successful product for Volvo and many thousand were sold worldwide in coach and bus form. It has long since been superseded by other models but some remain in service in the UK. Seen here is F90 CBD, an example with a Jonckheere Deauville body that was new to Go Goodwin's of Manchester in 1989. Some time ago it was repurchased by Goodwin's and has been subject to what looks to be a long and detailed restoration. It is seen here in some early sun at the UK Coach Rally in Blackpool on 1 April 2023.

Behind is the current Volvo coach flagship, the 9900 which is based on the B11R chassis. Not many of these have been sold to UK operators, but Brethertons Gold Line Tours from near Preston is among them with GL22 HOL. The black-based livery looks very well on the distinctively-styled 9900. Both coaches await entry into the driving heats here.

Passing the Ministry of Transport Driving Test in 1952 was a far simpler task than it is for today's drivers.

If the Ford Anglia I took my driving test(s) on in 1969 had similar magical qualities as enjoyed by Harry Potter and Chums, I would have passed at the first attempt. Being the Muggle I am, it took three goes before I got my magic pass slip.

Once the coach had reversed through the cones, it was hard acceleration to the other end of the course where the driver had to drive into a garage and reverse out.

The 1959 Look at Life feature, “Driving Test” included the then-rigorous training of London bus drivers. Aspiring drivers had to undergo a stint on the skid patch at the LT Chiswick Training Centre, which the film showed to dramatic effect. One of the prewar AEC RTs then used for training is put through the paces.

My father was a Driving Test Examiner for 12 years. This picture shows him exiting a 1971 Triumph Toledo driving school car at the end of his final Driving Test. The DVLA do not have any record of this car.

I love this shot taken of a Ford Anglia and a Morris Minor being used for driving tests in Valetta in August 1988

This car or one identically simular in this colour was the car i learnt to drive in and passed my driving test in on 25th August 1985 (1st time!). The only difference to this one is that it was badged Opel Kadett and it was a 1980 'W' registration and not a 1983 'A' registration as shown here.

A landmark car in my history although i've never bought a Vauxhall or Opel in the time since.

but I knew something was going to go wrong. Received a letter from the Driving Standards Agency today. I thought they were reconfirming my test date and time. How wrong I was. Due to what they are calling "unforeseen circumstances" my test has been cancelled. But rescheduled. For September 24. When I'm not even in the country. My Instructor has looked all around Manchester for a test this week, but the only dates which are coming out are those around my rescheduled date. He's going to call them first thing Monday morning and see if he can pull some strings. I'm not feeling very upbeat about it right now. The only reason I was learning was so that I could drive in America.

Baggage Handlers Strike, Cancelled Driving Test. What more can go wrong? Maybe one of my cases will be lost? I'm no longer taking anything for granted. I woke up this morning and could have easily cancelled my flight. Feeling very nervous and anxious. This subsided later in the day when I was all excited and happy again.

If I can't get a test, I can have my £62 back.

I will be going out next Saturday night. F-k My Life.

Oh. I Love This Man

This is a really old photo that I keep forgetting to upload.

I had a phase in the last 2-3 years of making L-plate cupcakes for friends' hen parties - for those hens that are too classy to wear an L-plate around town! Handmade edible "L-plates".

Available in boxes of 6 (colour of box may vary). Cupcakes are muffin sized (large) and are in metallic red cases.

Not the greatest photo in the world unfortunately (this was before I started to use the services of TimBrookPhoto for my cake photos), but you get the gist.

Just passed my driving test in an automatic with a modified steering wheel - will beat the hell out of illegally driving the van with my knees while trying to change gear. A whole world of drunk driving, speeding and road traffic accidents has been restored to me. If you need an instructor near Sheffield, use this man: www.automaticandmobilityinstruction.co.uk . I lost my driving licence a week before the test, incredibly got a replacement from DVLA in time, lost that the morning of my test, and accidently found an ancient pink paper one (with 3 bans and 24 points on it) to use with my instructor. Great first impression.....Another candidate this morning dropped hers inside the car engine before the instructor had seen it, so no test for her that day!
