Well , it is not often you see a double decker bus hiding away - except here there is often one tucked into this narrow gap !!
The building on the left was once part of the estate of Grove House in Great Bookham and I believe was once a stable block - after the main house became apartments and a series of cottages built , the old stables became the site of the library in Bookham ( at the far end there is still a stamp machine built into the wall - not used for a long time now ) . Anyway once the library moved to it's new location it stood empty for a while and it suffered a major fire . Nowadays though the building is used by a driving school for HGVs and PSVs - hence the double decker - and a good bit of practice getting it parked in this narrow spot with only a narrow road width to manoeuvre in !!
Be safe out there Bea!

New to Bristol Omnibus as their 449 in late 1979, this ECW bodied Bristol LH was in use with Stagecoach Manchester as a driver training vehicle by the new millennium.
No - I'm not learning to drive ... but I am learning a 'new' camera - one that has been customised to shoot only in infrared!
At the charity shop (thrift store) I picked up another little model car (I've collected a few for props over the last couple of years). I loved this one, as it is so unusual - a driving school car! When I got it home I discovered it is not a toy at all, but a scale model with accurate detail etc. I was expecting to find it a little battered and worn with play (ideal for photography) but it is in pristine condition, and may even be worth a little!
Anyway, I have unscrewed it from its display base, and put it to work. I thought I could celebrate my coming IR learning curve in this way ;o)

A couple of odd photos that I've taken for the photo for the day, but something else came up and replaced them.
Thank you for your favourites. :O)

Originally a traffic car in a set of Jaguar XFs with the Central Motorways Police Group in 2010 at their Perry Barr base, now serves as a driver training car for those training on an advanced ticket, mostly for traffic officers but is regularly used by the football unit to carry officers who interact & gather evidence amongst football crowds. This is one and truly the last of its kind as for marked Jaguar police cars in the whole of the United Kingdom.

My husband is an instructor at the BMW driving school and I spent the afternoon yesterday working on my panning skills. Got lots of blurry shots!
Accompanied by their instructor, a group of trainee bus drivers emerge from the Glasgow Corporation Transport Coplawhill training school, getting first-hand experience of driving a large vehicle. L31 (FYS654) carries L-signs to warn the public that the folk at the wheel are still learning their skills. Their steed is a Leyland PD2/25 that entered passenger service in 1956, carrying Alexander bodywork built on Weymann frames. Along with 14 of its sisters, L31 was converted into a permanent training vehicle in 1970. Sadly none survived to be preserved.

Special thanks to the officer who was driving me and Vinnyman1 in the marked Jaguar XF that day for sticking the blues on.
Also a special thanks to the West Midlands Police's Operational Support Unit who organised and invited me, Vinnyman1 & FutureCopMiller to the Search And Rescue exercise alongside West Midlands Fire Service Technical Rescue Unit & Leicestershire Search And Rescue that day.

(Quelle: Wikipedia)
*********************************************************************

The car is equipped with a perspex visor attached to the hood ornament, an unusual roof-mounted searchlight, and additional driving lights. The radiator grille is adorned with green branches. Not unreasonably, allowing for the proximity of the manufacturer, Preston Borough Transport favoured Leyland products for many years. Seen here in a picture I took in the late 1970s is their driver trainer FRN 738. Not only was the PD2's chassis built by Leyland, but its body was too.
I've no idea how long it survived for, but if it didn't make it into preservation, I'm sure it would have been a good candidate.
I'd no recollection of ever seeing this picture before until my latest round of re-scanning!
