The US AMG Driving Academy kicked off 2010 with two BASIC events at the legendary Road Atlanta race track. Attendees sampled a group of vehicles including the SLK 55 AMG, C 63 AMG, E 63 AMG, CLK 63 AMG Black Series, SL 63 AMG and SLS AMG on the 12 turn, 2.54 mile home of the Petit Le Mans. Virginia National Guard Soldiers assigned to the Portsmouth-based 2nd Squadron, 183rd Cavalry Regiment, 116th Infantry Combat Team conduct driver training Nov. 2, 2019, at the Ault Wheeled Vehicle Obstacle Course at Fort Pickett, Virginia. The course consists of nine obstacles over a two-mile course through the woods of Fort Pickett, and it is one of only three in the entire Army. Noncommissioned officers provided instruction for how to best navigate each obstacle before Soldiers got behind the wheel. The course is named for Staff Sgt. Jesse A. Ault, a Virginia National Guard Soldier killed in action April 9, 2008, in Baghdad, Iraq, from wounds suffered when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device while assigned to the 429th Brigade Support Battalion. Most of the length of the disused runway 13/31 at Carlisle Airport is used for driver training. On this large area of tarmac the student is able to familiarise with driving car and trailer, minibus, bus, rigid or articulated large goods vehicle before going onto the public roads. Reversing and braking maneouvres are also practised on this off road location.
