ICBC is announcing $50,000 in funding to assist youth in foster care and those who have aged out learn how to drive.

ICBC is working with the provincial government to partner with the Federation of BC Youth in Care Networks (FBCYICN) to create a bursary program, Take the Wheel, which will fund driver training and support for at least 50 qualifying youth and young adults from across BC over the coming year.

Having a driver's licence can open the door to employment and educational opportunities. Access to driver training is often limited for youth in government care and by providing young people with financial support, this program will help youth achieve the major milestone of learning to drive.

3020 heads onto Parnell Street from O'Connell Street

Careers in the commercial trucking industry are now possible for 29 people receiving training in two driver-training projects funded by the Province. Through $764,800 in funding, 18 women in the YWCA Changing Gears program, and 11 newcomers to Canada in the essential skills driver training at Douglas College, will earn their Class 1 license upon successful completion of the program. Each of the participants will also get work experience with local employers.

The US AMG Driving Academy kicked off 2010 with two BASIC events at the legendary Road Atlanta race track. Attendees sampled a group of vehicles including the SLK 55 AMG, C 63 AMG, E 63 AMG, CLK 63 AMG Black Series, SL 63 AMG and SLS AMG on the 12 turn, 2.54 mile home of the Petit Le Mans.
