Another morning, another forest, the same winter.
The snow has meanwhile spread so far into the lowlands that I no longer have to drive into the mountains to hike through a winter forest. A trip to the Dresden Heather just a few minutes from my house is enough.
It was bitterly cold this morning, should have been around minus 10 degrees. And it was a wonderful way to start the day.
Ein anderer Morgen, ein anderer Wald, der selbe Winter.
Der Schnee hat sich inzwischen soweit ins Tiefland ausgebreitet, dass ich nicht mehr in die Berge fahren muss um durch einen Winterwald zu wandern. Ein Ausflug in die Dresdner Heide nur wenigen Minuten von meinem Haus entfernt, reicht da schon aus.
Es war knackig kalt heute Morgen, müsste so um die minus 10 Grad gewesen sein. Und es war eine wundervolle Art in den Tag zu starten.

Much to my regret I had no time for photo tours during the last weeks. Because that will not change this week, I have to take recourse to my last years photographs. Fortunatelly there are some of them still waiting to be published.,” like this one here from the Priesnitz waterfall in the Dresden heather. Zu meinem großen Bedauern fehlte mir in den letzten Wochen die Zeit für Fototouren. Da das diese Woche nicht anders sein wird, muss ich auf die Bilder vom letzten Jahr zurück greifen. Zum Glück gibt es da noch so einige, die auf ihre Veröffentlichung warten, wie dieses hier vom Priesnitz Wasserfall in der Dresdner Heide. Ich werde bald auch wieder neue Erlebnisse und Entdeckungen mit Euch teilen können, versprochen. Jetzt bin ich allerdings erst einmal für eine Woche unterwegs, also dann, bis Samstag.

I promised You more colours for this week. Finally that had to wait till the end of the week, but now there is an abundance of it. When I'm looking out of the window right now, it seems to be a perfect day for a little overdose. The photo was made in last autumn next to the river Priesnitz in the Dresden Heather. When I'm looking at the photo I always be reminded at a parade. Where on both sides crowds of people are jubilating and waving with flags. Now its only the right music needed.
Ich hatte ja für diese Woche etwas Farbe versprochen. Nun musste das bis zum Ende der Woche warten, dafür gibt es die jetzt im Überfluß. Wenn ich so aus dem Fenster schaue, ist heute der perfekte Tag für eine kleine Überdosis. Das Foto enstand letzten Herbst an der Priesnitz in der Dresdner Heide. Für mich erweckt dieser Anblick jedesmal den Eindruck einer Parade. Wo auf beiden Seiten die Menschenmassen jubeln und mit Fahnen winken. Fehlt nur noch die richtige Musik.

This photo was taken just two weeks before the shot I showed you yesterday and is only about 1 kilometer away from this spot. At that time there was no sign of winter.
Here, too, I was out and about in the Dresdner Heide early in the morning, always looking towards the sun that had just risen to see whether I might be able to discover special light formations between the trees.
As I passed a narrow lane between the trees, I was suddenly faced with this sight. I immediately had the association of a drawing room from an old castle, with a thick green carpet and a chandelier on the ceiling. A ballroom for the animals of the forest, where they can meet the forest elves for a chat or a little dance.
Dieses Foto entstand nur zwei Wochen vor der Aufnahme, die ich Euch gestern gezeigt habe und ist nur ca. 1 Kilometer von dieser Stelle entfernt. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war von Winter noch keine Spur.
Auch hier war ich früh Morgens in der Dresdner Heide unterwegs, immer den Blick in Richtung der gerade aufgegangenen Sonne gerichtet um zu sehen, ob ich vielleicht besondere Lichtformationen zwischen den Bäumen entdecken kann.
Als ich an einer schmalen Schneise zwischen den Bäumen vorbei kam, stand ich plötzlich vor diesem Anblick. Ich hatte sofort die Assoziation von einem Salon aus einem alten Schloß, mit dickem grünem Teppich und einem Kronleuchter an der Decke. Ein Ballsaal für die Tiere des Waldes, wo sie sich mit den Waldelfen zu einem Plausch oder einem kleinen Tänzchen verabreden können.

In the few days of this winter when we were covered in deep snow here, I made a morning trip to lake Haarweiden in the Dresden Heather. I had heard of it but had never been there myself.
I have to say I struggled a lot with myself whether I should even show the picture, the only one I keep of the ones I made there.
I had great difficulty even finding a composition that I found appealing myself, not least because of the many footprints around the lake. But something else was always wrong.
In the end I decided to do it anyway (just now). Because in the end it's a beautiful place worth showing. Regardless of a photographer's vanities.
In den wenigen Tagen dieses Winters, in denen wir hier tief verschneit waren habe ich einen morgendlichen Ausflug zum Haarweidenstausee in der Dresdner Heide gemacht. Ich hatte schon von ihm gehört, war selbst jedoch bisher noch nie dort.
Ich muß sagen, ich habe sehr mit mir gerungen, ob ich das Bild, das Einzige, welches ich von denen behalte, die ich dort gemacht habe, überhaupt zeige.
Ich hatte große Schwierigkeiten überhaupt eine Komposition zu finden, die ich selbst für ansprechend gehalten habe, nicht zuletzt wegen der vielen Fußspuren rund um den See. Doch auch sonst hat immer irgend etwas nicht gestimmt.
Schlußendlich habe ich mich trotzdem dafür entschieden (gerade eben). Denn am Ende ist es ein wunderschöner Ort, der es wert ist gezeigt zu werden. Unabhängig von den Eitelkeiten eines Fotografen.

Yesterday I gave you a little foretaste of my Sunday sunrise photo tour (what a neologism - almost cooler than the photos).
Today I decided to be a little mean to you and make you wait a little longer for the rest of the pictures. Well, that's just how I am sometimes. Unlucky :-). All joking aside, I have to do this, otherwise I won't be able to see through here at some point.
Instead, I would first like to finish a few short series that I had already started.
I would like to start with another photo of the autumnal Priesnitz waterfall in the Dresden Heath. This time in portrait format.
Even if it seems like it, I didn't have to step into the already cold water to take this photo.
Gestern habe ich Euch einen kleinen Vorgeschmack auf meine sonntägliche-Sonnenaufgangs-Foto-Tour (was für eine Wortschöpfung-fast cooler als die Fotos) gegeben.
Heute habe ich beschlossen, ein ganz klein wenig gemein zu Euch zu sein und Euch noch etwas auf die restlichen Bilder warten zu lassen. Tsja, so bin ich halt manchmal. Pech gehabt :-). Spass beiseite, ich muss das machen, sonst blick ich hier irgendwann nicht mehr durch.
Stattdessen möchte ich erst einmal ein paar Kurzserien zu Ende bringen, die ich vorher bereits begonnen hatte.
Anfangen möchte ich mit einem weiteren Foto vom herbstlichen Priesnitz Wasserfall in der Dresdner Heide. Dieses Mal im Hochformat.
Auch wenn es so wirkt, ich musste für dieses Foto nicht in das doch schon recht kalte Wasser steigen.

Yesterday's evening walk took me to the Dresden Heath again. And although this forest area is not particularly large and I have been here countless times, I have never passed this corner. Which in turn means that I have to go back there to take a closer look.
While I was hiking through the forest with the aim of making a video about mosses and lichens, the evening sun suddenly drew my attention to a scene that I would have otherwise just walked past.
Luckily, I was of course also prepared to take photos and so I devoted myself to this scene for 15 minutes before finally deciding on this composition.
And even though this is the only photo I brought home (along with the planned video, which you can watch in my Facebook gallery), I'm very happy that I didn't miss it. Even though I had to pay a heavy blood toll on the mosquito world for the trip (which I noticed this morning).
Der gestrige Abendspaziergang führte mich mal wieder in die Dresdner Heide. Und obwohl dieses Waldgebiet nicht übermäßig groß ist und ich schon unzählige Male hier unterwegs war, bin ich in dieser Ecke hier noch nie vorbei gekommen. Was im Umkehrschluß bedeutet, dass ich da nochmals hin muss um mir das genauer anzusehen.
Während ich da so durch den Wald wanderte, mit dem Ziel ein Video über Moose und Flechten zu erstellen, machte mich plötzlich die Abendsonne auf eine Szene aufmerksam, an der ich wohl sonst einfach vorbei gelaufen bin.
Zum Glück war ich natürlich auch auf Fotografieren vorbereitet und so widmete ich mich erst einmal 15 Minuten lang dieser Szene um mich schlußendlich für diese Komposition zu entscheiden.
Und auch, wenn dies das einzige Foto ist, was ich mit nach Hause gebracht habe (zusammen mit dem geplanten Video, was Ihr Euch in meiner Facebook Galerie ansehen könnt), bin ich das sehr glücklich darüber, dass mir das nicht entgangen ist. Auch wenn ich für die Ausflug eine gehörigen Blutzoll an die Mückenwelt entrichten durfte (was mir heute früh aufgefallen ist).

Because its looking quite poor in terms of snow at the moment here, I decided to start the year with some colours. This is a photo from on of my hikes to the Priesnitz waterfall in the Dresden heather. With a drop height of about half a meter this waterfall is more a dwarf, nonetheless this place is, with it’s gorgeous surroundings, one of the most beautiful places around here when it comes to catch the colours of autumn.
Da es mit Schnee bei mir im Moment noch etwas dürftig aussieht, habe ich mich entschieden, das Jahr mit etwas Farbe zu starten. Dies ist ein Foto von einem meiner Ausflüge zum Priesnitz Wasserfall in der Dresdner Heide. Mit einer Fallhöhe von einem halben Meter ist dieser Wasserfall eher ein Zwerg. Trotzdem ist dieser Ort, auf Grund der wunderschönen Umgebung einer der schönsten Plätze hier, wenn es darum geht die Farben des Herbstes einzufangen.

After the short foretaste in my video yesterday, here you can now see one of the results of my little hike to the Priesnitz waterfall in the Dresden Heather.
As quietly as this small waterfall has been bubbling here for many years, this sight is as roaring loud as it is to the eyes at this time of year. The intensity of the colors is really extraordinary.
For this reason I come here every two to three years and try to capture this color spectacle. And where I normally try to keep a photo as simple as possible, that no longer matters here. Here autumn can show what it is able to do.
Unfortunately, the image design options at this spot are very limited. Basically only this one perspective works. Within this framework I try to vary at least a little with the focal length or the position of the camera.
But in the end that doesn't matter. Because coming here and enjoying the show, even without a camera, is an experience in itself.
Nach dem kurzen Vorgeschmack in meinem gestrigen Video seht Ihr hier nun eins der Ergebnisse meiner kleinen Wanderung zum Priesnitz Wasserfall in der Dresdner Heide.
So leise, wie dieser kleine Wasserfall hier seit vielen Jahren dahin plätschert, so brüllend laut ist diese Szene für die Augen um diese Jahreszeit. Die Intensität der Farben ist dann wirklich außergewöhnlich.
Aus diesem Grund komme ich alle zwei bis drei Jahre hier vorbei und versuche dieses Farbspektakel fest zu halten. Und wo ich normalerweise versuche ein Foto so einfach wie möglich zu gestalten, so spielt das hier keine Rolle mehr. Hier darf der Herbst zeigen, was er so alles auf dem Kasten hat.
Leider sind die Möglichkeiten der Bildgestaltung an diesem Spot sehr eingeschränkt. Im Grunde funktioniert nur diese eine Perspektive. In diesem Rahmen versuche ich zumindest ein bisschen mit der Brennweite oder der Position der Kamera zu varieeren.
Doch am Ende Spielt das auch keine Rolle. Denn hier her zu kommen und die Show zu geniessen ist, auch ohne Kamera, schon ein Erlebnis für sich.

At the beginning of December, our forests were still deeply covered in snow. Then it thawed briefly and the day before Christmas it was white again. If you went into the forest at this point, it wasn't difficult to find a photo opportunity. Every tree, every branch, perhaps even every leaf, had been transformed into a work of art by frost and snow.
But then it just rained for one night and in the morning the snow was gone. Without this it is much more difficult to find beautiful motifs in the forest in winter, because everything seems somehow desolate. If we at least had fog, then things would look completely different. But unfortunately there will be no talk of this in the next few days.
It's nice when the rising sun comes to your aid and conjures up a beautiful sun star behind a young beech tree that is currently hibernating.
Anfang Dezember waren bei uns die Wälder noch tief verschneit. Dann hat es kurz getaut und einen Tag vor Weihnachten war es noch einmal weiß. Wenn man zu diesem Zeitpunkt in den Wald gegangen ist, fiel es nicht schwer ein Fotomotiv zu finden. Jeder Baum, jeder Ast vielleicht sogar jedes Blatt waren von Frost und Schnee in ein Kunstwerk verwandelt worden.
Doch dann hat es eine Nacht lang nur geregnet und am Morgen war der Schnee weg. Ohne diesen ist es ungleich schwerer im Winter schöne Motive im Wald zu finden, denn alles wirkt doch irgendwie trostlos. Wenn wir wenigstens Nebel hätten, dann sehe das schon wieder ganz anders aus. Doch leider ist davon in den nächsten Tagen auch keine Rede.
Da ist es doch schön, wenn einen die aufgehende Sonne zu Hilfe kommt und einen wunderschönen Sonnenstern hinter eine junge Buche zaubert, die gerade ihren Winterschlaf hällt.

Today I'm taking a day break with old buildings and floods. And since it's supposed to snow here a lot in the next few days and we'll be moving around in a more monochrome landscape, there's another concentrated load of autumn colors today.
Here you can see a small excerpt of the Priesnitz waterfall in the Dresden Heath, taken at the beginning of November last year.
Seen in this way, I at least remain loyal to the water, even if there is nowhere near the amount of it that you know from the pictures from Dresden. And that's a good thing, because the tranquil Priesnitz river couldn't handle something like that. And that would be a shame for the beautiful Dresden Heath.
Heute mache ich mal einen Tag Pause mit alten Gebäuden und Hochwasser. Und da es in den nächsten Tagen hier des öfteren Schneien soll, und wir uns hier dann eher in einer monochromen Landschaft bewegen werden, gibt es heute nochmal eine geballte Ladung Herbstfarben.
Ihr seht hier einen kleinen Ausschnitt des Priesnitz Wasserfalls in der Dresdner Heide, aufgenommen Anfang November letzten Jahres.
So gesehen bleibe ich zumindest dem Wasser treu, auch wenn es bei weitem nicht die Mengen davon sind, die Ihr von den Bildern aus Dresden kennt. Und das ist auch gut so, denn die beschauliche Priesnitz könnte mit so etwas garnicht umgehen. Und das wäre schade um die schöne Dresdner Heide.

My interruption lasts one more day, because I can't wait to share this sight with you. On a short stroll through the Dresdnen Heather (a wooded area near my house), I was surprised by this beautiful scene yesterday morning. It was my first time in this part of the forest, so I was amazed that suddenly there was a bog in the middle of the forest. And yes, this place is really called the evil hole. However, I have no idea where he got his name from. On the contrary. To me he exudes so much calm and peace. And in the time I was here at least nothing bad happened.
Meine Unterbrechung dauert noch einen Tag länger, denn ich kann nicht abwarten diesen Anblick mit Euch zu teilen. Auf einem kurzen Streifzug durch die Dresdner Heide (einem Waldgebiet in der Nähe meines Hauses), wurde ich am gestrigen Morgen von dieser wunderschönen Szene überrascht. Ich war das erste Mal in diese Teil des Waldes, darum war ich verblüfft, dass es hier mitten im Wald plötzlich ein Moor gibt. Und ja, dieser Ort heißt wirklich das böse Loch. Allerdings habe ich keine Ahnung, wo er seinen Namen her hat. Im Gegenteil. Für mich strahlt er so viel Ruhe und Frieden aus. Und in der Zeit wo ich hier war ist zumindest nichts böses passiert.

In the garden today you can literally see how winter is being pushed back in the truest sense of the word. It feels like it's getting a degree warmer every hour today.
So before the cold is finally over (I don't think this winter will come back again), I'll briefly give you some cold thoughts and maybe even cold feet.
Here is another photo of my walk in the snowy Dresden Heath (still near Langebrück) last weekend.
When this was created, the sun even appeared for a moment, which you can see from the shadows on the path.
Im Garten kann man heute förmlich zusehen wie der Winter im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes zurück gedrängt wird. Gefühlt wird es heute jede Stunde ein Grad wärmer.
Bevor das also mit der Kälte final vorbei ist (ich glaube nicht, dass dieser Winter noch einmal zurück kommt), versorge ich Euch nochmal kurz mit kalten Gedanken und vielleicht sogar kalten Füßen.
Hier ist ein weiteres Foto meines Spaziergangs in der verschneiten Dresdner Heide (immernoch in der Nähe von Langebrück) am letzten Wochenende.
Als dieses entstand hatte sich sogar für einen Moment die Sonne gezeigt, was Ihr an den Schatten auf dem Weg erkennen könnt.
