Sharpness Docks jetty... mangled.
I quite like doing these modern arty thingies for Sliders Sunday.. They look fabulously complex, but in reality they are very straightforward to do if you have a layers-based editor like Photoshop or Affinity or the free online Pixlr editor (a fabulous bit of clever software that runs in your browser without installation).
The trouble with explaining how to do it is that it sounds complicated, but that is in the telling rather than the reality.
Another problem I find is although it sounds as if I know exactly what to do, in truth a lot of it is just trying things to see what happens - an approach I recommend just for the sheer fun of exploring what is possible and enjoying the happy accidents that happen.
There are two basic techniques I use repeatedly for this image and others:
Flip and Blend
1. Duplicate the image layer (Ctrl+J in Windows).
2. Select the top layer in the Layers panel.
3. Flip (reflect) the layer either horizontally or vertically.
4. Change the blend mode of the top layer in the layers panel.
This is useful to create symmetry in the picture.
--
Merge and Blend
1. Merge Visible to a new layer. (Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E). This creates a new pixel layer which looks visually the same as all the other layers were looking before.
2. Change the blend mode as above.
--
So here is what to do:
1. Choose an image with lines and shapes and textures. A bit of colour helps but even subdued colour is enough. You can borrow my in-camera image if you like :)
2. Flip (horizontal for this one) and blend. I chose Difference, but others work, like Exclusion or one of the Lights like Soft Light - try and see.
So here is the recipe that I ended up with for this image. The basic approach is to use layer copies and merges and to flip and blend (or duck and dive if you wish lol).
1. Flip horizontally and blend top layer with Difference
2. Merge Visible, Flip vertically and blend the top layer with Lighten.
3. Merge Visible, and blend the top layer with Multiply (no flip :) ).
At this stage we already have the basic image. The colour may be to dark and dull or bright and contrasty depending on the blend modes you have chosen.
4. Adjust colour and tone to taste with Vibrance/Saturation and Brightness/Contrast.
5. To finish sharpen to taste with Unsharp Mask (try a radius of between 5 and 50 for this sized image but anything that works for you will do.
This particular image had three extra slightly more involved tweaks which are my preference rather than a necessity:
a) I used High Pass sharpening at about 4px with Linear Blend, instead of Unsharp Mask. I prefer it for excess sharpening :)
b) To strengthen the colour I also used a Curves adjustment in LAB mode, steepening the curve line for the colour channels (A and B). Just make sure the line always passes through the centre of the graph if you don't want to change the hue violently.
c) The frame was created using layer fx:
- Merge Visible as above
- Enlarged canvas by 100 px in both dimensions from the centre
- Create a new fill layer under the merged layer; fill with white
- Select the top, merged layer and add a drop shadow layer fx.
- I also added a 1px black line outline line.
I hope that this is helpful to someone, and encourages you to have a bit of fun yourself.
That's it. Less than half an hour on the iPad using Affinity, including experimentation time.
If you have a moment, zoom in to see some interesting textural detail.
I'll post a link to the in-camera image in the first comment.
Thank you for taking the time to look. Thank you even more if you even read any of this! I hope you enjoy the image. Happy Sliders Sunday :)
Hah so I had thought I'd post one picture at a time from the Flickr Gathering but I'm just in love with so many pictures from it. This will probably be the last for the night but I love how it turned out. Note to Self: add fancy lights and awesome transparent fabric to the long list of photographic supplies to buy.
Oh and this is Iain, helluva guy that had tons of energy and was a natural at modeling. He's my first male model that I shot ever and hopefully some day I'll get to shoot him again. Hell he can come when all the awesome Flickr Friends I made meet up again because that is definitely going to happen, it was too incredible to happen only once.

The idea of reality, objects, and meaning taking on subjective shapes is exhilarating in this digital dreamscape. It's not a mirror reflecting back, but a vast multiverse for the remaking. We gaze at pixels not as passive images, but as malleable material waiting for the sculpture of our minds. In this realm of the sentient web, objects aren't fixed points, but brimming vessels swollen with infinite, fluid meanings. What constitutes reality becomes a choose-your-own-adventure, where every click, scroll, and keystroke informs the very narrative of our lived experiences.
This is my pixelography, a living archive of digital artifacts, choices, and time. Each screenshot ignites a curated chapter, where truth refracts through individual lenses and meaning flickrs in pixels. My new beginning starts here, on the threshold of dreaming, where I am wielder of the electronic chisel, crafting my own reality.

A little image that I might use as a front page for my website. I just need to dreamweave it to death and see if it works.

how can you call me precious
when you dont listen......
how can you say you care
when your heart wont let me in...
you and me - was it just a passing dream?
~found art, women's photo exhibit "dreamweaver"
This is in the process, but just wanted some feedback on it. This is a website that I am working on for my Graphic Design 3 class where I am using Dreamweaver for building.
As you can see I am not completely done, hence the "Insert Artwork Here" but that is soon to come...enjoy!

This is the beginning of a small cotton dream bag I am weaving. I like how it is turning out.
I keep a larger one of these under my pillow with many special objects in it. I hope to use the ideas I put in the bag to direct my dreams so I understand them better and thus, perhaps, understand myself better as well.
