Here's #Draw365 in action - take a stroll down memory lane through my new biz cards from moo.com - love them!
I'll be at Art Walk 2012 - Arts in Bloom - through the Laura Moore Fine Art Studios, 107 S. Tennessee, McKinney, TX 75069 on the Square. Just look in the tent and find me! I'm one of 15 artists there, and I'll be selling work from 10-6 this Saturday, March 14. Come by and say hello! Did I mention I'll also be doing a giveaway...? :)

Yep. That's what I want to be. Then I could draw and sculpt all day, and not have to worry about annoying things like sleep. Or potty breaks. http://moby.to/ii1kit

Look familiar? I hope so - at least vaguely! Especially if you read 21 Artists To Watch in 2011 at Skinnyartist.com (totally obvious foreshadowing alert...) If you haven't, well shame on you! Just kidding...kind of. Catch up here: skinnyartist.com/21-artists-to-watch-in-2011/
Islamic Ornamentation always dazzles me with its completely unabashed profusion of intricate repeated details. I couldn't stop thinking about this image above once I saw it in my book, Splendors of Islam. Dominique Clevenot and Gerard Degeorge used this close-up pic of the Shish Mahal in Pakistan as the frontispiece in Splendors of Islam. (Side note - I had to Google what a "frontispiece" even was. Big Book Learnin' Answer: A frontispiece is an illustration that faces or immediately precedes the title page of a book, book section, or magazine. Hoping to use that in Jeopardy: Book Nerd Week to score tons of $$$.)
So...since I kept thinking about how amazing this image was, it seemed like a good idea to use it as the first step in making my latest commission painting, Diaphanous Daffodil (here's the Diaphanous Daffodil pic: #Draw365.22, www.flickr.com/photos/juliaforsythart/5413041805/in/photo...)
There you go. Art has to start somewhere, and this was my first step of inspiration in making Diaphanous Daffodil. Tune in tomorrow to see the next step in its evolution!
DIY watercolors are marinating! My art coteacher told me about this and we used it w the art students on projects. The colors are rich and gorgeous! Very excited to make some of my own for the for hand embellishments for my linocuts. And how cool is is it that these were once headed for the landfill but now they're getting a 2nd life as watercolors AND all the plastic parts get recycled??

Previously, all of my lino blocks have been either a drawing transfer through matte medium or by ironing a pencil drawing right onto the block. This time was the first time I ever drew right onto the block without working out all of the details of the drawing on a separate piece of paper. That was tough! Way more erasing than I anticipated - surprised myself.

Since I ended up with a ton of pencil on my block, I knew that I had two options or a one-way ticket to Smear City. I could either re-draw all of the original drawing with a Sharpie over the existing drawing. That would take forever, and I just couldn't make myself do it. So the other option was to spray the drawing very lightly with an even coat of fixative. 3-4 hours vs. 20 seconds...hmmm.
I just hope that using the fixative doesn't affect how the ink clings to the linoleum block once it's printing time. If it works great (which I think it will), that will be handy for the future.
More carving!

I painted this painting to help with the Trees For Life Charity Auction organized by Trevor Jones. He asked the Twitter Arts Community to consider contributing artwork to donate towards reforesting the dwindling Caledonian Forest.
UPDATE: This piece sold before the Opening Reception! So happy to help. Please let me know if you're interested in commissioning a similar piece. :)
All proceeds go towards the Trees For Life Charity.
The opening night is Thursday 3 November 6:30 - 9:30 pm. Free entry and all are welcome.
The exhibition will run 1 - 13 November. Don't miss it!
