dramatic lighting 101 practice

Dramatic Play at the Lester Public Library, Two Rivers, Wisconsin

We had a break in the rain and a break in the clouds this afternoon. It made for some pretty dramatic lighting over the Willamette River. You'd think it was close to sunset, but this was taken about an hour and a half before sunset. You can see the mist and spray from the water raging over Willamette Falls.

We're having flooding in the Pacific Northwest because of several days of steady heavy rains that have been caused by a Pineapple Express, which is warm wet air coming our way from Hawaii. We get PEs at least once every winter. This year we got one early.

(Here is a short video clip of the mighty falls.)

We are having a hard time getting all the final touches, etc. from our photographers.

My mom ordered a few pictures that I have been able to scan.

made out of 3 aeb-exposed images

I loved the final edit of this image.

The annual Peace Fair of the Buckingham Friends Meeting, 2010. The weather, crowd, events, music, education, participation, food . . .all exceptional!

Sometimes you take violent personal insult to the normal aging process.

Shame about the powerlines

I originally processed this with my "dramatic" black and white action I made but then decided to add some color back into it because of his beautiful blue eyes.

It is overprocessed and overexposed on purpose, although I think the cheeks might be a bit much.

REALLY NICE ON BLACK

A new definition of Dramatic Lighting. I really just saw the clouds like this and really liked it so I took a shot of it and added some shadows to it and bumped up the contrast. Enjoy!

Drama added in PS

A rare day in Kuwait with clear skies and dramatic clouds.

All I have to say is: i have had enough winter....and would enjoy 85 and sunny degree weather.....I guess all I can do is dream...

Light info: Macro ringflash (on lens) combined with an off-camera 580EX directly placed below the orchid.

Every now and then, I try something with my mobile phone cam.

Every now and then, I'm surprised what you can get out of it...

A somewhat interesting result, at least to my eyes. Nothing really spectacular, but I found it interesting enough.

Upper half processed with the "c2g" GEGL function of GIMP 2.6 (one of my favourite functions of GIMP), lower half "normal" channel-mixer b/w conversion.

[UPDATE: Hmmm.. I do see now that it looks like a composition (lower/upper half), but it isn't. The difference between the look of the two parts is somewhat too extreme. I know that the big DOF looks somewhat artificial too, but believe me, the tiny mobile-phone-cams DO have such a DOF.]

I had to put this one up. It's too dramatic.

5- 20'x 6' wide draped polyester fabric attached to 4' PVC pipe ring. Chandelier: Interior lit rice lantern, icycle chirstmas lights and fluorescent light tubes hung by metal ring.

He de decir que esta fue una de las puestas de sol más bonitas que he visto nunca.
