Bram Stokerâs Dracula

Like word of the discovery of gold at Sutterâs Mill in 1849 drew thousands of fortune hunters to California, news that a few rare comic books can be worth thousands of dollars prompted many to become comics collectors. Most will be disappointed, and then move on to other ventures.
Ventures such as trading cards. They are the hot âcollectorsâ item now. Capitalizing on the demand, many comic book stores also carry a wide variety of trading cards.
The next step in this melding of collectibles has now been taken. Topps â one of the major producers of trading cards for many years â recently decided to branch out and form its own comic book publishing arm.
The first fruit of their labor is now available. Entitled âBram Stokerâs Draculaâ, it is an adaptation of the motion picture playing in theaters now. Insiders have questioned the wisdom of starting a line off with such a title. Movie adaptations of recent vintage arenât usually highly valued as collectibles â especially if the movie should flop.
Also, by the time all four issues of this mini-series can see print, the original will be well on its way to video stores. This likewise plays to the theory that people wonât be interested in reading a comic when itâs faster and better to see the actual movie.
Such considerations aside, this is an excellent comic book in terms of scripting, artwork, and overall production values. If nothing else, it proves that Topps can be expected to produce comics with the same high standards of quality that they employ in their trading cards.
It can be enjoyed as a supplement to the movie (and to the original novel), and comes highly recommended as such.
âBram Stokerâs Draculaâ costs $2.95 per issue, and is available in comic book specialty stores.

Bran is a small town in Transylvania next to the border with Wallachia in Transylvanian Carpathians. Stands out Bran Castle (Törcsvåri Kastely), this is the Castle of Dracula, but Vlad Dracula better known as Vlad the Impaler did not build it (believed to be spent on it as prisoner way to Budapest).
Bram Stoker based his novel on the character of Vlad Dracula and Bran used as a model to describe the castle of the vampire.

Standing a little bit inside Green Park, the house with the scaffolding is believed to be the house which Bram Stoker modeled the Piccadilly Property Count Dracula buys in the book.
Jonathan Harker, Van Helsing, & Dr. Seward wait in Green Park while Arthur & Quincey go for a locksmith so they can discreetly enter.

Exciting first flowering of this Dracula orchid. The flowers are 20cm/8in high and it has a characteristic grotesque face. A true floristic monster!

A little throw-together for the Halloween season. I'm a huge fan of the old black and white monster flicks. I thought it would be fun to try a MOC presented with similar color limitations and lighting effects...and yep, it was a blast!
