Saturday was spent putting this OLD building plan from campus building services into my precious AutoCAD for my space planning project for my advanced studio class. The really tricky part was that the plan from building services isn't 100% accurate when compared with the measurements that Mark and I took of the built structure. So the biggest part of the day was finding a workable medium between the two.
Exciting freaking stuff!!!
Tomáš' mother cooked a traditional Czech lunch: Pork with Sauerkraut and Knödel.

Meet Dallas Jones, this week's #ResidentofEIU, Dallas is a freshman from Troy, Illinois. He has not declared a major yet; however, Dallas plans on job shadowing a dietician and public relations worker this semester to help him figure out what he wants to major in.
"My favorite part about living on campus is how easy it has made it to be involved. It becomes simple to join new things when I am already on campus." Dallas explained. His favorite memory comes his involvement on campus. Dallas works for the #EIUFootball team as their manager and loves to travel with them. He especially enjoyed traveling to face the University of Arkansas.
He also works at WEIU, the official radio station for #EIU, where he writes and works with their technology. Dallas not only works on campus, but he also is a part of ROTC, a member of Douglas Hall Eboard, and the president of #DouglasHall council. He enjoys being the president for it allows him to plan interesting events for his peers.
Dallas' advises #FuturePanthers to get involved and stay involved on campus when you arrive! He found getting involved to be extremely easy to do, for there is always events, that you will be interested in and to deeper your knowledge, going on campus. He also suggests that Future Panthers take a campus visit to get a good feeling about the environment of EIU and Charleston.
Dallas chose EIU for its small class sizes at our college. They allowed him to easily meet new people and learn inside and outside of the classroom through the opportunities provided. Eastern went from being just a school to "an avenue to learn skills" that will help impress future employers in Dallas' opinion.
Congratulations, Dallas, on being this week's #ROE. We hope you continue to learn at EIU in and out of the classroom.Good luck on your job shadowing sessions!

Title: The Loud Halo.
Author: Lillian Beckwith.
Publisher: Arrow Books.
Date: 1973.
Artist: Douglas Hall.
When we arrived, the furniture of Douglas Hall was in the process of being labeled for shipment to other dorms or buidings on campus. The process appeared to be paused for the weekend giving the sense of a moment frozen in time.
The move out is so fresh that the posters of the previous foreign language students still lingered. Eventually, these too will be torn down and thrown away, but will never be replaced by the next generation of students.

An OLD building on campus that I have to redesign for my advanced studio class. This is taken in the middle of the building from one side to the other (34'-6"). I cropped it and did some perspective cropping to exaggerate the lines of the lighting and the floor tiles. Then I adjusted the levels in PS and added some contrast and saturation too. Then I worked with it in Picnik to give it this look. It feels to me like a flashback with the soft focus, the sepia, and the vignetting.
Not actually taken on 2/5/07, but certainly representative of my day. I started my day far too early for a Monday, started work at 8:00, left for school at 11:15, got little to nothing done in class because of boring logistical issues, went back to work until 6ish, met Mark for dinner, went back to campus to meet my class mate at 8:45 due to the logistical issues previously mentioned so we could finish measuring this building for our project, finally got home about 10:40.
I now officially detest, loath, hate, abhor, etc. this building. It's nasty and awkward and keeps popping up in projects. I don't ever want to see it again. Sadly, that will be all too soon.
I actually took this picture on Saturday on my first round of measuring the building. Monday was the first day, since I got my new camera on December 25th, that I actually left the house without it. It's just too heavy to have my backpack and my books, etc. and my camera. I took Mark's old camera, but I just wasn't inspired to use it. The long day and late hours didn't help my creative slump.
It also appears that I'm going to need to modify this resolution of mine and allow myself to miss days during school and/or do more of like I'm doing now and use a picture that is representative of that day even if it wasn't taken on that day. I do so like to look at this set and see my time represented in images.
