Actually this Douglas DC-3 is a C-47 Skytrain - hung above the roof terrace of the Deutsches Technikmuseum (German Museum of Technology) and its double reflection in the glass of the building's angled facade.
This particular C-47 was delivered to the USAF in 1945 and was initially used by the weather service based on Jamaica.
From 1962 to 1977 it was used by the Spanish Air Force, in 1986 it went back to the USAF, who displayed it on Tempelhof Airport to remember the Berlin Air Lift.
In 1994 it was handed over to the Deutsches Technikmuseum.

Rosinenbomber auf dem Dach des Deutschen Technikmuseum.. 🇺🇦💙💛🇪🇺

Sultana bomber on the roof of the German Museum of Technology...
The blockade of West Berlin by the Soviet Union, an enclave in the Soviet occupation zone, cut off the population from the supply of food, medicine and other vital supplies in the period from 24 June 1948 to 12 May 1949. The idea was that the population in the western part of the city would be supplied by air by the Allies. The pilot Gail Halvorsen had the idea to give children a little joy. Chocolate, chewing gum and sultanas were dropped from the sultana bombers at Tempelhof Airport in little parachutes he had made himself. The children waited every day for the little gifts.
Stay healthy and let's hope together for peace in Europe. 🇺🇦💙💛🇪🇺

The Douglas DC-3 (with the military variants Douglas C-47 and Douglas Dakota) is, according to Wikipedia, the passenger resp. transport aircraft produced in the largest numbers until today, and certainly one of the most famous ones. For Swissair, 16 aircraft flew from 1937 to 1969. The machine with the designation HB-IRO as the prototype of the model was acquired in 1938 and flown by Swissair until 1955, then sold. The Swissair flight plan No. 6 was valid from May 25, 1948. The binoculars 8X30 Deltrintem were made by Carl Zeiss Jena (I'm very sorry, dear Swiss friends: Of course, in true style, it should be a model by Kern Aarau, but unfortunately none of those were to hand...).

How about a little city trip? It seems there will even be on-board service.

The Douglas DC-3 is a propeller-driven airliner manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Company. It is a low-wing metal monoplane with conventional landing gear, powered by two radial piston engines of 1,000–1,200 hp (750–890 kW). The DC-3 has a cruising speed of 207 mph (333 km/h), a capacity of 21 to 32 passengers or 6,000 lbs (2,700 kg) of cargo, and a range of 1,500 mi (2,400 km), and can operate from short runways. Military versions, including the C-47 Skytrain (the Dakota in British RAF service), brought total production to over 16,000.

In its external appearance and also parts of its construction, it cannot hide its development history from a Leica II copy, but it has many distinguishing features and further developments.
A sad topical reference that should not go unmentioned (even if Secretary was not aware of it when the picture was taken) is the seat of the manufacturer FED, the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, embattled in today's war and hit by massive Russian firing. And the name "FED" is derived (according to Wikipedia) from Felix Dzerzhinsky, the founder of the Soviet secret service Cheka.
... came true for millions of people who first flew in this airplane, the Douglas DC-3 that first flew almost 85 years ago. It is still in regular service in some parts of the world.

Seven years ago this week as preparations took place for the D-Day 2012 commemorations, I had the opportunity to fly alongside D-Day veteran "Drag-em-Oot" as she made her way to France.
She's seen here in the Lee-on-Solent / HMS Daedalus visual circuit.

Today marks the 76th Anniversary of D-Day.
By dawn on 6th June 1944 there were already thousands of paratroopers and glider troops behind enemy lines in occupied France and this C-47 was there, on that day - dropping troops ahead of the massive seaborne invasion to come.
I had the pleasure of seeing a number of C-47s and DC-3 Dakota's up close last year on the 75th Anniversary, as a large collection flew from the US and all around Europe for a formation flight over Normandy. One refuelling stop was at Prestwick International Airport.
I have always loved aviation and flying and the DC-3 is my all-time favourite flying machine, the shape and form looks beautiful from any angle. Here though, with the invasion stripes, the beauty is replaced with the incredible duty these workhorses had to perform.
In memory of those who fought and those who died during the liberation of Europe, and beyond, to bring an end to the reign of brutal and horrific fascism that had torn freedom and democracy away from many lands. We must never allow that to happen again. We must remember and respect the sacrifices made to bring peace and prosperity to our world. Lest we forget.

The Museum of Traffic and Technology (Museum für Verkehr und Technik) was founded in 1982 and assumed the tradition of the Royal Museum of Traffic and Construction (Königliches Verkehrs- und Baumuseum) which was opened in the former Hamburger Bahnhof station building in 1906.
The present-day museum is located on the former freight yard attached to the Anhalter Bahnhof in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin, including two historic roundhouses and several office buildings.
Renamed Deutsches Technikmuseum in 1996, the exhibition area was gradually expanded.
An adjacent new building complex was inaugurated in 2003, topped by a prominent US Air Force Douglas C-47B "Raisin Bomber", which can be seen with ease from the top of the Fernsehturm and formerly at the Tempelhof Airport. (Source: Wikipedia)

So there he was, sitting in his hotel room, trying to wash down his frustration, anger and rage with - well, how many? Not the first, nor the second, nor the third, and it didn't really matter which one - whisky, which he had ordered to be brought to his room. Of course, he wouldn't succeed this time either.
He was annoyed and furious with himself, of course. Above all, however, he was annoyed and furious with the high-ups, who were puffing themselves up like anything; always ready for a harsh order or oh-so-well-intentioned piece of advice, but hadn't spent a minute on a mission themselves. He had literally been told (well, "told" was actually not the right word) to get his ass into the hotel room and wait for a certain commercial attaché, Count von und zu Storchenweier, with further orders.
He had actually been successful. He had flown from Stuttgart to Zurich in the Swissair plane, fairly well protected from overzealous air defense by its red and white "neutrality stripes" on the fuselage and wings, on the company's last remaining route.
He had traveled as an absolutely credible industrial representative of the German Reich. Understandably, nobody wanted to mess things up with someone like that. As a valued guest, he had met important men (and beautiful women) at that noble banquet and at more clandestine events. And practically all of them, like their backers, would do whatever was politely asked of them to ensure that the very discreetly captured images they showed them in conversation with quite remarkable counterparts did not fall into the wrong hands or even become public.
He had very discreetly captured them all on film - or not, actually. There was really no need to load and expose the same film twice.

Close-up of nose-art on a Douglas DC-3 Dakota that took part in the Dak's over Normandy event for the anniversary of D-Day. Captured on a very wet day at Prestwick International Airport, Ayr, Scotland, in May 2019.
The combination of polished aluminium, rivets and raindrops looked absolutely beautiful all over this stunning metal bird of the skies. Enjoy!
Having just heard the news coming out of The United States of America I felt that this was an apt upload. Politics aside, with the increasing devastation of our climate rapidly changing I could not imagine the damage being done with another four years of climate change denial from the most powerful nation on earth.
By all means you are free to hold your own opinions but I will not tolerate personal insults being levelled at anyone in the comments, I have deleted two and have now blocked further commenting. If we cannot be civil to each other despite differing opinions then there is little hope left for humanity.
The road ahead is long but the skies appear to be a little brighter and bluer for humanity now. Stay safe everyone!

On November 21th 1973 a pilot of the United States Navy had to operate an emergency landing as he reached the Black Sand beach on the south Iceland coast. Approaching the shoreline he realized that the flat sand beach is better suitable for landing and he succeeded. All seven crew members get of the plane alive. The Douglas DC3 was later written off and abandoned. Nowadays there is a bus shuttle the about 3 miles to the wreck from the Icelandic Highway no 1. I was lucky I catched a few seconds without tourists on the site but with a man looking like wearing pilot clothes approaching the wreck in the background.

The lead plane carrying Airborne troops on D-Day as well as virtually every other Airborne operation in WWII, "That's All--Brother" has been meticulously restored by the Commemorative Air Force to exactly the way she was the night before the invasion of France in 1944. _DSC4169
This aircraft, built in 1943, flew 2 missions over Normandy on D-Day, towing gliders of troops and supplies, and subsequently supported other missions of the invasion, including Market Garden. The aircraft seems to have been in pretty much continuous use as a civilian passenger and cargo carrier for most of the intervening 80 years.
Many Douglas DC-3/C47 aircraft are still airworthy, and a number still in commercial use.
The same subject as my last upload but in this shot i have pulled back a bit to show more of the aircraft and also took this shot after the sun had gone a bit lower .

This aircraft led the way. Restored to her exact configuration that day by the CAF, "That's All Brother" will again fly over France this day, 80 years later. _DSC4779
