Bobby Martin in action at Columbia Records, one of the biggest record labels in the world. Columbia Records will always be remembered as the record label that had all of the top recording artists in the world. Arranger Producer Bobby Martin Worked for Mr. Clive Davis at Columbia Records. In 1975 Bobby Martin Gave Colombia records their biggest hit ever, "a song called Kiss and Say Goodbye". Kiss and Say Goodbye is a very popular song recorded by the American R&B vocal group The Manhattans. The song was written by Manhattans member Winfred "Blue" Lovett. The original demo of the song was recorded with The Manhattans backing band, "Little Harlem. Producer Arranger Bobby Martin decided to re-record the Manhattans with the musicians from the MFSB orchestra at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia. Released as a single, in both a version that included a mid-song rap spoken part (aimed toward the R&B market) and one that omitted it (aimed toward the pop market) over a year later, the song became a world-wide hit for the group. The song spent two weeks at number one on the U.S. Pop and U.S. R&B charts, and while also reaching number four on the UK Singles Charts in the summer of 1976. It also became just the second single to earn double-platinum certification status (Johnnie Taylor's "Disco Lady" was the first a few months earlier). Bobby Martin Produced Kiss And Say Goodbye for Columbia Records, this lead to Columbia Records eventually signing Bobby Martin to their record label as an executive producer throughout the late seventies and eighties.
