The Sanctuary of the Madonna of San Luca is Bologna's basilica church, situated on a wooded hill outside the city's historic center. You can get here from the city via a monumental, covered arcade (Portico di San Luca), 3.8 km long.

Tradition has it that in the 12th century a pilgrim from the Byzantine Empire came to Bologna with an icon of the Virgin Mary from the temple of St. Sophia in Constantinople. The bishop of Bologna, Gerardo Grassi, assigned the icon to a small chapel-hermitage at the top of the hill. In 1193, the construction of a church began, which survived until the beginning of the 18th century.

The present church was built in 1723 in the Baroque style according to the designs of Carlo Francesco Dotti.

This month, Jordan Magazine got to work with the lovely Pheadra Young who is currently competing in the competition ''The Making of an Icon'' hosted by non other than Dotti Hudson. Just after week 1, Pheadra was one of the public's favorites and she has continuously been in the top. She is truly one rising star in the fashion industry.

"Dotti", yesterday after leaving an Art in the garden exhibition I was embarrassed by the fact that we had not photographed our own little pooch after many people viewed the pet portraits I had displayed, saying "I bet you have lovely ones of your own Dog"

We rushed home grabbed camera tripod and of course "Dotti" and found a nice patch of Forget me nots to rectify the situation......

Another "Glam" shot of "Dotti "...

The local police followed the men and saw them pull into the Owl Motel, the one with the huge neon "WHO" that has become a landmark of sorts.

Dotti loved my rock collection around the garden, she hid them in Ruby's favourite rug, sure gave me a surprise when I had bare feet!

Note dotti is a 16 week old guide dog puppy isn't she a cutie!

"So like as you can see I am bald. Yeah well that was NOT the plan. Basically we were going to go for a lilac bob, and we did but then I woke up one morning and it was all gone. So instead Dotti had the fabulous idea of keeping the bald but dying it blonde. I kinda like my hair like this, but idk I may start wearing wigs omg. I'm also going to the doctors tomorrow to find out why I'm loosing my hair, so check into the MSH to find out what is up!"

So yeah, this photo is not exactly what I hoped but I hope it keeps me outta danger <3

The Palazzo Davìa Bargellini is a Baroque style palace located on Strada Maggiore in central Bologna, Italy. It presently hosts the Civic Museum of Industrial art and Davìa Bargellini Gallery, which is an eclectic collection of paintings as well as applied arts and functional ornamentation, described as curiosities of the old Bologna. The diverse applied art collection includes ceramics, liturgical robes, keys, ornamental door knobs, marionettes from street theaters, furniture, iron grille work, elaborately carved wooden frame, and a gilded carriage.

Construction of the palace was commissioned in 1638 by Camillo Bargellini of a Bolognese Senatorial family. The architect was Bartolomeo Provaglia, and building was directed by Antonio Uri. A notable feature of the palace entrance are the two flanking telamons, locally called giganti or giants. These were sculpted in 1658 by Gabriele Brunelli and Francesco Agnesini. The scenic entrance stairwell was designed in 1730 by Carlo Francesco Dotti and Alfonso Torregiani.

The idea of a museum was forwarded in 1924 by the then owner and Superintendent of Galleries, Francesco Malaguzzi Valeri, in part to display the collection of paintings assembled by the Davìa Bargellini families, and his personal collection of applied art. It became a "Museum of "Industrial Art".

"I decided to remake one of the best photos in the trendytwins photographer history. I loved the whole story behind the picture so i choosed this one. I love photos with a story! I tried to pose like allison cummings the famous model on that photo. I think it turned out pretty good and im glad i could put a little modern, magical and personal touch to it. I hope Dotti will like it."

The picture is so dark because its night, and ophelia got lost in the woods and is trying to find the way home. Read the whole story in the description from the trendytwinzx4 photo i linked above! The story is pretty cute^^

This is the remains of Porta Maggiore. In the background is Bologna's tallest remaining tower, Torre Asinelli.

Originally there were twelve gates but only ten remain today and most of the gates were rebuilt in the 1600s or altered extensively.

Bologna was first settled by at least 1000BC and, over the years grew and grew as a city.

Walls were built in the 5th century to protect the city. More were added in the 11th century and, in the 13th century, a final ring called “La Circla” was built around what is now the historic centre of Bologna.

Much of the walls were destroyed in the 20th century due to war and expansion but the city gates of La Circla still exist.

These were once part of great complexes consisting of a captain's house, keep, moat and drawbridge and controlled the coming and going of people and goods to the city.

Porta Maggiore was erected in the 13th century, in 1507, under Pope Julius II a further fortification was added.

In 1770, the portal was partially reconstructed by designs of Giovanni Giacomo Dotti.

In 1903, the gate was nearly completely dismantled, but a fierce debate shut down the work, and soon led to conservation and restoration under the direction of Alfonso Rubbiani.

Further restorations occurred in 2007 and 2009, but it remains a shell of the former self, an inconvenience in the road, standing as a roofless brick structure with two ogival arches in series, devoid of its former facade and covered passageway.

Why I should make it Into TMI: I want to show, that a icon dont has to be a selfish glitter princess diva. Im sick of all the same girls on tv. Its time for a new era of icons! And im going to be the first one.

Who's team I would like to be on: Sabrinas. I like her way to handle things. She seems to be very honest about everything she says. And i liked her show more then dottis tbh. But dotti is cool too. She is more crazy i guess. But since i have to choose a favourite, im picking sabrina.

Porta Maggiore, now known as Porta Mazzini, was the main eastern portal of the former medieval walls of the city of Bologna, Italy. It straddles the site in which the Strada Maggiore of Bologna changes name to via Mazzini, immediately west of the intersection with the Viale di Ciconvallazione.

First erected in the 13th century, in 1507, under Pope Julius II a further fortification was added. By the 17th century, porticos were built leading to the church-sanctuary of Santa Maria Lacrimosa degli Alemanni further down on Via Mazzini. In 1770, the portal was partially reconstructed by designs of Giovanni Giacomo Dotti. In 1903, the gate was nearly completely dismantled, but a fierce debate shut down the work, and soon led to conservation and restoration under the direction of Alfonso Rubbiani. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porta_Maggiore,_Bologna
