Do you remember that not long ago I posted a photo of Dave's car door stripped down to bare metal? Well, tomorrow we need to do the same job on my car.

 

The back door just isn't locking properly, and that's something that really needs fixing, and hopefully this part will do it.

 

It's come from the most fantastically named scrapyard in history - the 'Gentlemen of Salvage', and it smells of leather and mahogany.

 

OK, it doesn't, it smells of oil and oil cars, but the name is real.

 

What's interesting is the scrappy white paint notation. The #K010... is a part number. The N/SR denotes that it's a part for a nearside rear door. The D3 is the curious bit. That denotes that it's from a Land Rover Discovery 3. So why have I bought this for my Volvo S80?

 

Because it's the same part! This lock actuator is used in all kinds of places, including the Discovery 3, the Range Rover Sport, the Volvo V70 and S80 (at least), the Focus Mk2, the Mondeo...it looks like Ford rolled it out across the entire group as far as they could - I daresay you'll find a few Mazdas with it in as well.

 

Why have I gone Land Rover? Because it was £15 and all the Volvo ones were over £40!

removing the door was not an easy task. i had a trim panel removal tool, but finding the location of the clips quite difficult.

no, these are not the factory speakers. they are aftermarket speakers i purchased from Crutchfield a while back (also the case for the speakers on the rear deck).
