It is sometimes important to include human figures in the photo as an indicator of the size. When I came here, there were two tourists, but they went outside of the frame when I pushed the shutter button (^_^;
The small blue plate on the trunk (or root?) is roughly the same height as human head. Imagine how huge it is!
The tree is called Tung (Tetrameles nudiflora) which is the only species of the Tetramelaceae family. It is a deciduous flowering plant found in Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and northern Australia.
It is the same species as the famous tree in the Angkor Complex in Cambodia, which strides over the Ta Prohm temple (flic.kr/p/26gMjUe).
Bàu Sấu (Crocodile Lake) is wetlands surrounded by grasslands and lowland tropical forests in the Cát Tiên National Park.
It is also a Ramsar site registered in 2005.
Tall trees are probably Dipterocarpus species native to Southeast Asia.
The grassland submerges during the rainy season from June to October.
It is usually the final destination for most of the visitors to the park after a 10 km bicycle ride and a 5 km walk through a forest.

Bamboo grows rampant on both sides of the river. The park's website mentions negatively that some 40% of the park area consists of bamboo-dominant forests.

The grassland submerges during the rainy reason. Bamboo grows rampant near the lakeshore that does not submerge in the rainy season.
Access to the lakeshore is restricted as visitors are requested to be on the boardwalk built on stilts.
Boat trips may be offered if arranged prior to the visit.

Bau Sau is one of the nine Ramsar sites in Vietnam.
The Ramsar site covers an area of 13,759 ha or a 19% of the total area of the Cat Tien National Park. Only 151 ha is a permanent water body.
The pond in the photo expands during the rainy season with water flowing in from the Dong Nai river. The wetlands work as a natural detention basin for the Dong Nai like the Tonlé Sap lake for the Mekong.
A photo taken at the restaurant of Green Bamboo Lodge in Nam Cat Tien located on the opposite side of Cat Tien National Park across the Dong Nai river. There are a dozen of accommodations in the small community.
It was not luxurious but the location and the mood were good.

There is a trail leading to Bàu Sấu or Crocodile Lake. The trail provides a great opportunity to observe old trees and tropical plants with occasional sighting of wildlife.
The giant tree in the photo is one of many old trees that survived the spraying of defoliants during the American War. It is a fig species called Đa bóp cổ (Ficus sumatrana), which is native to Southeast Asia.
Like many other fig species, it is a parasite plant that lives on the trunk of other tree. The host tree is strangled eventually.
