Ross Park Carousel is a historic carousel located at Binghamton in Broome County, New York. The carousel is housed in a wooden, one story, 16-sided, pavilion topped by an eight sided cupola. The carousel has 60 horses standing four abreast, each of which is a "jumper," and two chariots. It was constructed by the Allan Herschell Company and contains its original Wurlitzer Military Band Organ. The carousel was purchased about 1920 and is one of six carousels donated to the citizens of Broome County by George F. Johnson (1857–1948), president of Endicott Johnson Corporation.

This coin was donated to me during my childhood, by a Belgian friend of my parents, I was fascinated by the hole.

I still find the hole very intriguing. Worth today €0,64!

Ik kreeg deze munt als kind, van een Belgische vriend van mijn ouders, ik was gefascineerd door het gat.

Ik vind het gat nog steeds erg intrigerend. Vandaag €0,64 waard!

Here's a night time photo I edited originally donated by Josh Felise. Thankyou my friend!

I used my Lightroom Landscape toolkit to change up some of the colours in the shadows and highlights and to edit some local adjustments in this image. We can see that a long exposure was used however the stars appear to be blurred.

I'd recommend the use of either high ISO/large aperture + exposure of about 30 seconds to freeze the stars in place or low ISO/small aperture + a super long exposure to form some cool star trails.

This Landscape toolkit for Lightroom will be released soon as freeware to download from my website!

Columbus Monument in Byrd Park, Richmond, Virginia. A gift to the city from Richmond’s Italian community, statue of Christopher Columbus dedicated in 1927.

Christopher Columbus in Byrd Park at the south end of The Boulevard, north of the reservoir.WHAT: “Christopher Columbus” in Byrd Park at the south end of The Boulevard, north of the reservoir.

ARTIST: Ferruccio Legnaioli.

DEDICATION: December 9, 1927.

DESCRIPTION: A standing bronze figure 6 1/2 foot high on a granite pedestal 8 1/2 foot high. This was the first Columbus statue in the south and was the first monument in Richmond to have night illumination. The idea of Frank Realmuto, this statue was sculpted, erected and financed entirely by Virginians of Italian birth.

In the United States, Columbus Day is always celebrated on the second Monday in October. Virginia celebrates two legal holidays on the day, Columbus Day and Yorktown Victory Day, which honors the final victory at the Siege of Yorktown in the Revolutionary War.

The Plaza de España, designed by Aníbal González, was a principal building built on the Maria Luisa Park's edge to showcase Spain's industry and technology exhibits. González combined a mix of 1920s Art Deco and Spanish Renaissance Revival, Spanish Baroque Revival and Neo-Mudéjar styles. The Plaza de España complex is a huge half-circle; the buildings are accessible by four bridges over the moat, which represent the ancient kingdoms of Spain. In the centre is the Vicente Traver fountain.

Many tiled alcoves were built around the plaza, each representing a different province of Spain. The Plaza's tiled Alcoves of the Provinces are frequent backdrops for visitors' portrait photographs, taken in their own home province. Each alcove is flanked by a pair of covered bookshelves, now used by visitors in the manner of a; Little Free Library. Each bookshelf often contains works with information about their province. Visitors have also donated favorite novels and other books for others to read.

Today the buildings of the Plaza de España have been renovated and adapted for use as offices for government agencies. The central government departments, with sensitive adaptive redesign, are located within it. Toward the end of the park, the grandest mansions from the fair have been adapted as museums. The most distant museum contains the city's archaeology collections. The main exhibits are Roman mosaics and artefacts from nearby Italica.

The Plaza de España has been used as a filming location, including scenes for Lawrence of Arabia (1962). The building was used as a location in the Star Wars movie series Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002) — in which it featured in exterior shots of the City of Theed on the Planet Naboo. It also featured in the 2012 film The Dictator. The 2023 Netflix series, Kaos, also featured scenes filmed at the Plaza.

More photographs recently donated to Aldridge Transport Museum that came from the collection of the late Doug Rushton, who was part of the design team at Metsec and previously Crossley and Duple.

Official shots of the prototype Dennis three-axle for China Motor Bus, Hong Kong, one a posed shot of the completed bus and one of it being tilt-tested, probably at the military MVEE test facility at Chobham, conveniently close to the Dennis factory (hence the Surrey trade plates). The bus became DL1 in the CMB fleet and just about survives.

By chance, I visited the Duple factory in Blackpool to see the bus being built; my photograph is at flic.kr/p/2aP9vst .

Excerpt from talkingwallsphoto.com:

The Tivoli Theatre in Hamilton dates back to 1875 when it began as a carriage factory. The carriage factory closed six years later and the building remained vacant for the next 26 years.

In 1908 the factory was converted to a theatre with 200 seats and named the Wonderland, followed by the Colonial (1910 to 1912) and the Princess (1913-1923).

The theatre showed live vaudeville acts and movies. It was the first cinema in Hamilton to feature soundtracks.

In 1924 a man named Andrew Ross took over and converted the store theatre into an auditorium which was named The Tivoli. It opened on September 29th, 1924.

On Feb. 1, 1926, the Tivoli Theatre introduced “talkies” (talking movies). Only two other Canadian theatres offered talking movies at this time.

In 1950 the theatre began showing movies full time and was operated by Famous Players Corporation. The building was remodeled in 1943, 1947 and 1954.

Improvements made in 1954 included 1,300 flashing lights on the marquee sign and the, auditorium walls were covered in silk damask.

September 28th, 1989 was the final day the building was used as a movie theatre. The final movie played was “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” with 42 people in attendance.

The theatre was last used between 1998 and 2004, rented out by the current owners, the Snidermans (Sam the Record Man), to a local theatre company called the Tivoli Renaissance Project.

The former lobby was damaged on June 29th, 2004 and subsequently demolished after contractors determined the wall was dangerous. The City of Hamilton took over the property, secured it and removed the third floor, front wall, cupola and the marquee sign. The following year the Sniderman family applied for a demolition permit to demolition the 750-seat structure.

The property was then sold to the CEO of the Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble for $2.

The dance company was unable to keep up with the repairs on the aging structure and in 2013 it was sold to the CEO’s husband Domenic Diamante. Diamante is head of Diamante Investments.

Diamante Investments plans to build a new lobby that will lead to a restored auditorium. In addition a 22-storey condo tower will be built on the site. The tower would supply the revenue required to restore the theatre. The plaster work and mouldings would be preserved and restored as part of the heritage process.

Diamante Investments would then donate the completed theatre back to the Ballet Ensemble in a partnership plan that would have to be arranged. The City of Hamilton approved the developer’s proposal to build the condo tower and restore the theatre.

In 2015 their proposal was approved with the condition that the theatre opens before the condos.

Looking across Loch Tay to Kenmore Church...........The Parish Church built to serve Kenmore in 1760, reused parts of an earlier church built in 1669. It stands at the west end of The Square on a site that drops steeply on two sides to Loch Tay. Another feature that was important to the success of the newly redeveloped village was the construction in 1774 of the seven arch Kenmore Bridge, built across the River Tay immediately to the north west of the village, where the river flows out of Loch Tay.

It is said that £1000 towards the cost of its building was donated by George 111 .

The Prosper Schiaffino or Donator wreck, Mediterranean Sea, France. 🐠 🌊 🇫🇷 🌏 👉 linktr.ee/vincent_pommeyrol

👉 Getty Video footage www.gettyimages.fr/vidéos/vincent-pommeyrol-donator-wrec...

🇬🇧 The Donator, or Prosper Schiaffino, is a freighter sunk by a mine in 1945 and located between the islands of Port-Cros and Porquerolles. It is one of the most beautiful wrecks in the Mediterranean.

Donator was built in 1931 in Norway. It measured 78 m of length for 12 m of wide, for a speed de14 in 15 knots for a power of 1800 cv. Its resold in 1933 to the General Maritime Company of Armaments which renames it Small Earth and allocates it to the transport of bananas between the Metropolis and the Antilles. In 1939 it becomes the property of an Algerian Company of Navigation, the Company Schiaffino. This one was in the habit of baptizing the ships with the first names of members of the family, and Donator becomes then the Prosper Schiaffino. This company, which had twenty buildings in 1939, lost 19 during the Second World War: 13 by torpedoes, mines, and 6 by bombing while they were at anchor.

He was converted into a pinardier. Used for the transport of troops and equipment during the war, it found the transport of wine at the liberation. On November 10, 1945, the Prosper Schiaffino sailed for Spain with 29 sailors on board, to protect itself from the mistral, it skirted the coast. In sight of Porquerolles, it passes to the south of the island, too close, and encounters a field of residual mines. An explosion occurs forward at 1:15 p.m. The bow almost detaches from the ship. In 4 minutes, it sinks from the front, the rear almost vertically. Two victims will be counted. He rests on a sandy bottom at 48 meters, the bridge goes up to 44 meters.

Coral Gables, officially the City of Coral Gables, is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States, located southwest of Downtown Miami. The United States Census Bureau estimates conducted in 2017 yielded the city had a population of 51,095. Coral Gables is home to the University of Miami.

Coral Gables was one of the first planned communities and prefigured the development of the gated community and the homeowners association. It is infamous for its strict zoning regulations. The city was developed by George Edgar Merrick during the Florida land boom of the 1920s. The city's architecture is almost entirely Mediterranean Revival style, including the Coral Gables Congregational Church, donated by Merrick. The domed, Catholic Church of the Little Flower was built somewhat later, in a similar Spanish Renaissance style. By 1926, the city covered 10,000 acres (4,000 ha) and had netted $150 million in sales, with over $100 million spent on development.

The Plymouth Congregational Church is a historic church located at 3429 Devon Road corner of Main Highway in the Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami, Florida, United States. The land was donated by George Spalding and George E. Merrick. The architect was Clinton MacKenzie. The Edifice Religious was founded in the 1897, and completed in the 1917, the church was built by a single man, Felix Rebom, using only a hatchet, a trowel, a plumb line, and a T-square. Its architecture was modeled after the old Spanish missions of Mexico. On April 18, 2012, the AIA's Florida Chapter placed Plymouth Congregational Church on its list of Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places. On July 23, 1974, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Circa 1941, the WPA-sponsored American Guide Series book about Miami and environs described the church: "PLYMOUTH CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, at Ingraham Hwy. and Devon Rd. is a reproduction of a Mexican mission. The interior of the vine-covered stone building is constructed on the lines of a basilica and the doors are said to have come from a Spanish mission in Mexico. In one of the doors is a round cat-hole, now covered with screen. Many outdoor weddings have been performed at the pulpit in the walled garden."

SP 401, an 1880 product of Carter Brothers, trails a short train trying to leave Laws, California for Owenyo or Keeler. Unfortunately the track ends about 50 yards ahead of the engine, having been abandoned in 1960. The 401 and the boxcar have been on static display at the Laws Railroad Museum since 1960, but they got a chance to roll again when the newly restored SP 18 visited from its home down the road in Independence, CA. SP donated the Laws station and yard to the city of Bishop when the line abandoned, and the museum has done a great job of preserving a bit of the narrow gauge line's infrastructure, including the gallows turntable, water tank and oil tanks, station building, and much of the track. When the 18 is not visiting the museum offers rides in a former Death Valley Railway motorcar.
