Beautiful but dangerous. He dominates our local pond, defending his territory and his mate sitting on her eggs. He'll attack any other living being in the area. But isn't he beautiful ? Can't blame him, there's not enough room for all the breeding birds on this small area.

The spotted hyena is a very social animal; however, its social system is openly competitive rather than cooperative, with access to kills and mating opportunities depending on the ability to dominate other clan-members. Females provide only for their own cubs rather than assist each other, and males take no part in rearing cubs. Spotted hyena society is matriarchal; females are larger than males, and dominate them. Spotted hyenas are scavengers and often dine on the leftovers of other predators. But they are also skilled hunters that will take down wildebeest or antelope.

It was probably built as early as the 13th century, but the changes made over time are significant and have affected both the façade, which became Romanesque, then Gothic, and finally Baroque, as well as the interior, which followed a similar evolution.

The façade was modified in 1935, with a neo-Romanesque gabled style, dominated by the central portal and the large frescoed rose window.

The outer bell tower was obtained by incorporating the square tower of the neighboring Castle.

The Dents du Midi and Caux .No. 6960.

The Dents du Midi (French: "teeth of noon")[3] are a multi-summited mountain situated in the Chablais Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. They are composed of seven distinct summits and reach a height of 3257 metres (10,686 feet). Highest mountain between Lake Geneva and the Mont Blanc Massif, they dominate the Val-d'Illiez and the Rhône Valley, from Martigny down to the lake. Together with the slightly lower Tour Sallière, they form a cirque around the Lac de Salanfe, an artificial reservoir. Geologically it makes up a part of the massif Haut-Giffre.

The rural landscapes in Iowa (and most of the midwest US) are dominated by the two major agricultural crops-corn and soybeans. For those not familiar, the dark green areas are soybeans and the yellow/green strips are corn with the light color coming from the tassels (the male flower) at the top of the corn plants. Despite a VERY dry summer the plants still look quite good, but the yields will suffer dramatically if we do not get significant rains soon.

Dominating the city, this steep rock houses the mausoleum of Prince bishop Danilo I (1826-1860), the first of the Dynastie Njegoš dynasty. The dome houses a stone sarcophagus with engravings in which it is built. It was erected in 1896, to celebrate the bicentennial of the dynasty, based on sketches made by Princess Jelena (one of the daughters of King Nikola I, his nephew and successor) and on plans of a French architect (Frouchet).

The Prince-Bishop is a very important historical figure for Montenegrins: thanks to him, in 1858, the country gained independence after winning a battle against the Ottoman Empire, which had control over the territory at that time.

This is the most visited attraction of the city. Declared cultural heritage in 1957, the monument was part of the collection of the national museum since 2012, as well as the fragments of ancient pottery found at the summit in the 1970 s and 1980 s. Walking through nature, depending on the way some locals even see as a pilgrimage route, allowing access to the site, is pleasant. Once the summit has arrived, the rock offers a nice perspective on Cetinje and its surroundings: on one side the rock of the Massif massif and another the panorama on the city.

The heights behind these areas make sure that the coastal resorts belonging to the Municipality of Finale Ligure have a microclimate characterized by mild winters, with average daily temperatures which, in the December-February quarter, are around + 9 / + 10 ° C.

The Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona, Campigna is a national park in Italy. Created in 1993, it covers an area of about 368 square kilometres (142 sq mi), on the two sides of the Apennine watershed between Romagna and Tuscany, and is divided between the provinces of Forlì Cesena, Arezzo and Florence.

It extends around the long ridge, descending steeply along the parallel valleys of the Romagna side and more gradually on the Tuscan side, which has gentler slopes, especially in the Casentino area, which slopes down gradually to the broad valley of the Arno.

A large part of the park is woodland. In the park are areas the mountain vegetation, all types of woodland of the lower sub-mountain belt vegetation. In the forest dominated by hornbeams, turkey oaks and sessile oaks, chestnut woods (especially in the Camaldoli area and at Castagno d’Andrea on the Florentine side). In rocky places there are some of remaining rare cork oaks . Flora inside park include over 1000 herbaceous species, of which 48 are trees and shrubs. The most valuable collection is to be found in the Mount Falco-Falterona massif.

all nature pictures here are only in an area of 5 miles to my home. I live in Bracht, this small village is called "The Heart of the CastleForest". This is since centuries the biggest forest in the west-middle germany, in Hessen. There are mostly touristical unknown parts, because so long hunt is the dominate idea here. But since a very short time Premium walking routes are signed now. BUT I show more interesting parts over those great walking paths, that I am watching over, too.

So you see not the normal german forest, I show you mostly secret non-path-areas.

Hope you enjoy in my pictures!

As all of my cameras were pointed towards the supercell showing all that rotation. I really didn't pay attention to the storm that was coming in from the due north, until I paused to look that way.

2nd Storm was almost on top of my location. Luckily it was moving to the southeast & that meant I had a little time before the storm moved directly over.

This 2nd storm was outflow dominate. Producing this incredibly photogenic shelf cloud as in slow crept toward the city of Kearney.

This storm just kept getting photographically better by the minute. I had to flip 180s for a few mins as both storms was producing some insane storm photography!

Two environmental requirements dominate seaweed ecology. These are seawater (or at least brackish water) and light sufficient to support photosynthesis. Another common requirement is an attachment point, and therefore seaweed most commonly inhabits the littoral zone (nearshore waters) and within that zone, on rocky shores more than on sand or shingle.

Uçhisar is dominated by a 60-metre-high 'castle' which is actually a rock formation visible over a wide distance. Uçhisar Kalesi (Uçhisar Castle) is crisscrossed by numerous underground passageways and rooms, which are now mostly blocked or impassable but which served as residential areas and, perhaps, cloisters in Byzantine times. Perhaps around 1,000 people once lived in the castle although it is no longer inhabited today. It is open to the public and offers fine views from its summit.

Many fairy chimneys can be seen in and around Uçhisar, One of them houses a Jandarma (police) post.

The only rock-cut church inside Uçhisar is the sixth-century Church of St Basil which is inside a rock cone and not very easy to access.

Ruin of Teylingen Castle

The ruin of Teylingen Castle is a round moated castle that dominates the flat landscape. Originally there was only a ring wall; the keep was added later in the thirteenth century. In addition to the current castle, there was an extensive outer castle, which was also surrounded by a moat. A comfortable and luxurious house was built here in the fourteenth century.

The castle today consists of the still impressive round castle (37 m in diameter) on a castle island surrounded by a wide moat. On the inside of the wall you can see large savings arches on which a wall corridor has been placed. The massive residential building had also been erected against the wall. It is now an empty hull, but it used to have four storeys, the first of which was vaulted. The beam holes of the top floors can still be seen in the interior.

The castle was originally inhabited by the lords of Teylingen. The castle served to protect the Rijndijk and the road to Haarlem. The lords of Teylingen first appear in 1143. It is likely that the lords of Teylingen had borrowed the castle and the surrounding land from a count. In 1282 this family died out in the male line and the castle passed to the count.

The castle was given the function of hunting lodge and forester by the Dutch counts and the feudal man was given the title of forester and actually became a kind of civil servant with responsibility for management.

The most famous forester was Jacoba van Bavaria (1433). She came from the highest noble circles, but due to an unwanted marriage to Frank van Borsele had forfeited her rights to countlessness. She died of TB in 1436.

The castle was badly damaged during the Eighty Years' War. In 1572, during the siege of Haarlem and Leiden, Teylingen fell prey to the Spaniards and was reduced to ruin.

In 1888, the now heavily neglected castle was transferred to the state and the management of the monument was mainly focused on preservation and only since 1933 has further deterioration been prevented by constructive measures.

Since 1 June 2013, the ruin has been managed by: Stichting Beheer Kasteel Teylingen.
