A very tame and photogenic bird

Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline, Richmond, CA

The domestic pigeon (Columba livia domestica) is a pigeon subspecies that was derived from the rock dove (also called the rock pigeon). The rock pigeon is the world's oldest domesticated bird. Mesopotamian cuneiform tablets mention the domestication of pigeons more than 5,000 years ago, as do Egyptian hieroglyphics. Research suggests that domestication of pigeons occurred as early as 10,000 years ago.

Pigeons have made contributions of considerable importance to humanity, especially in times of war. In war the homing ability of pigeons has been put to use by making them messengers. So-called war pigeons have carried many vital messages and some have been decorated for their services. Medals such as the Croix de Guerre, awarded to Cher Ami, and the Dickin Medal awarded to the pigeons G.I. Joe and Paddy, amongst 32 others, have been awarded to pigeons for their services in saving human lives.

An odd day today and not a lot of photo time , so a quick poke the camera out of the back door at a small patch of bluebells and here are a few of them .

I've photographed the little old wooden church at Low Head on several occasions. It has quite a story now. Built by a dedicated group of church goers in 1877 it has now been sold by the Anglican Church. I told the story here with an expression of hope that the little church might be looked after. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/49725958252/in/album-72...

Well the good news is that several years later it has been turned into a private home and is looking spic and span. It is no longer consecrated for worship, but it still remains a reminder of a community of faith that would unite each Sunday under its roof.

Not far from the repurposed wooden church in Low Head, Tasmania, we find someone's modern definition of domestic bliss. The colour scheme and the word 'Enamor' all point to Spanish origins. Think what you will of this house, but for the owner 'enamor' means to be "in love." And that's all we can ask for really to have domestic bliss.

Someone’s lost rabbit finds its way to my house. It was feeding outside with the birds. It seems to be content to stay with me for awhile.

The eyes of goats have a non-standard structure. The main distinguishing feature of the organ of vision of animals is the rectangular pupil.

Conrail’s NY6 job drills tankers for PVS Systems after NY7 met them on the siding. An employ from PVS came out, took photos of my vehicle and our group, then convinced the crew to try and kick us out of the spot we were shooting at, which is a public road crossing. We left, doubled around the block, and pulled up in time to get a shot of them on the spur here as intended.

Normally we only see these type of ducks in city waters and ponds, but this beautiful duck was swimming in a nature reserve with only wild birds.

The grass is always greener on the other side.
