Psar Thmei, known as Central Market, is a landmark in the capital. Having opened in 1937, the art-deco style domed hall and its four arms house hundreds of stalls selling everything from jewellery, clothing and fabrics to food, flowers and trinkets. The market’s initial designs were drawn up by French architect Louis Chauchon, with construction overseen by fellow French architects Jean Desbois and Wladimir Kandaouroff. It underwent a $4.2 million makeover between 2009 and 2011.

The Galapagos Tortoise's survival is partly due to their amazing adaptations. On certain islands with low shrubbery, the tortoises tend to have short legs and short necks, whereas on islands with taller vegetation, the tortoises have longer legs and necks. Their shell shapes greatly differ as well. A Galapagos Tortoise's shell can be anything from "saddleback," or shaped like a horse saddle, to "domed."

On islands like Santa Cruz (islands that are over 2600 feet in elevation) that mainly consist of low, short vegetation, the tortoises have domed shells and are larger, with shorter necks and limbs. Saddleback tortoises originate from small islands less than 1,600 feet in elevation with dry habitats that are more limited in food and other resources.

Galapagos Tortoises have shell adaptions to help them find food, but the shells come with a price. They face many human challenges, but their physical challenges are one of the main reasons for their endangerment. While a Galapagos Tortoise is huge to help with extremes of temperature, their 800 pound, 5.9 feet long bodies put them at risk. Their shells aren't solid, and due to the positioning of their lungs, if they accidentally flip over their lungs could be crushed. Another reason is the fact that a Galapagos Tortoise can only walk at .20 mph.

The Galapagos Tortoises biggest challenge is still human extinction. As early as the seventeenth century, Galapagos Tortoises were killed by sailors for food. From the seventeenth century to the nineteenth century, as many as 200,000 Galapagos Tortoises were killed.

St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery (Ukrainian: Михайлівський золотоверхий монастир, Mykhaylivs’kyi zolotoverkhyi monastyr) is a functioning monastery in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The monastery is located on the right bank of the Dnieper River on the edge of a bluff northeast of the Saint Sophia Cathedral. The site is located in the historic administrative Uppertown and overlooks the city's historical commercial and merchant quarter, the Podil neighbourhood.

Originally built in the Middle Ages by Sviatopolk II Iziaslavych, the monastery comprises the Cathedral itself, the Refectory of St. John the Divine, built in 1713, the Economic Gates, constructed in 1760 and the monastery's bell tower, which was added c. 1716–1719. The exterior of the structure was rebuilt in the Ukrainian Baroque style in the 18th century while the interior remained in its original Byzantine style. The original cathedral was demolished by the Soviet authorities in the 1930s, but was reconstructed and opened in 1999 following Ukrainian independence in 1991.

Dmitriyevsky cathedral of the city of Vladimir (sometimes the name Dmitrovsky can be found in literature) is a temple erected by Vsevolod the Big Nest in the princely court and consecrated in honor of the Great Martyr Dimitri Solunsky. The canonical example of the cross-domed white-stone church of the Vladimir-Suzdal architectural school. Famous for its white stone carvings. In 1992, included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Beneath this elegant domed structure lies one of London’s lesser-known engineering marvels—the Greenwich Foot Tunnel. Opened in 1902, it was designed by civil engineer Sir Alexander Binnie and allows pedestrians to walk beneath the River Thames, linking Greenwich on the south bank with the Isle of Dogs to the north. The red-brick entrance building, crowned with a striking glass dome, remains a distinctive landmark on the Greenwich waterfront. Originally created to allow dock workers to cross the river more efficiently, it’s now a treasured shortcut for locals, tourists, and urban explorers alike.

The Annunciation Cathedral (Russian: Благовещенский собор) in Voronezh is one of the tallest Eastern Orthodox churches in the world.

The existing five-domed building of the cathedral with an attached bell tower was erected between 1998 and 2009. It was patterned after St. Vladimir's Cathedral, built in the late 19th century in a Russo-Byzantine style harking back to the works of Konstantin Thon and demolished by the Bolsheviks in the 20th century.

The church takes its name from the eponymous Ukrainian Baroque cathedral that was built in 1718–35 in place of an earlier church commissioned by St. Mitrofan of Voronezh; it was destroyed by the Soviets in the 1950s. The existing bell tower echoes the one designed for the old cathedral by Giacomo Quarenghi.

A monument to St. Mitrofan, whose relics are kept inside, was unveiled in front of the church in 2003.

The city plaza bustled with life around an ancient stone well, its copper dome gleaming under the sun. A wooden beam held a swaying bronze-banded bucket, its iron chain creaking as a veiled woman drew water. Merchants called their wares, children laughed, and the scent of spices filled the air. Travelers paused, drinking deeply, as the cool splash of water echoed. The well stood timeless, a silent witness to the rhythm of the city.

This striking domed structure marks the southern entrance to the Greenwich Foot Tunnel—a curious and iconic landmark on the Thames. Designed by Sir Alexander Binnie and completed in 1902, the red-brick building with its glass dome conceals a spiral staircase (and lift) that leads pedestrians 15 metres below the riverbed. From here, walkers cross under the River Thames to emerge in Island Gardens on the Isle of Dogs. A remarkable feat of Edwardian civil engineering, the dome itself has become a local icon—part sci-fi, part civic pride—anchoring Greenwich’s riverside charm in both history and utility.

This striking corner building on Praça de Lisboa in Porto showcases the city’s flair for mixing elegance and grandeur in everyday architecture. With its rounded dome, ornate stonework, wrought-iron balconies, and rhythmic rows of windows, the building embodies early 20th-century eclecticism, echoing both Beaux-Arts and Art Nouveau influences. Today, the ground floor houses boutiques like Vista Alegre, bridging Porto’s commercial vitality with its architectural heritage. The plaza, just steps from the iconic Clérigos Tower, has long been a gathering point for locals and visitors. The juxtaposition of historic stone façades and modern interventions nearby underscores Porto’s constant reinvention while honoring its past.

The Taj Mahal is a white marble mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal

The Taj Mahal (/ˈtɑːdʒ məˈhɑːl/ often /ˈtɑːʒ/; Hindi: ताज महल, from Persian/Urdu: تاج محل‎, ultimately from Arabic, "crown of palaces", pronounced [ˈt̪aːdʒ mɛˈɦɛl]; also "the Taj") is a white marble mausoleum located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The Taj Mahal is widely recognized as "the jewel of Muslim art in India and one of the universally admired masterpieces of the world's heritage".

Taj Mahal is regarded by many as the finest example of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Islamic, Persian, Ottoman Turkish and Indian architectural styles.

In 1983, the Taj Mahal became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While the white domed marble mausoleum is the most familiar component of the Taj Mahal, it is actually an integrated complex of structures. The construction began around 1632 and was completed around 1653, employing thousands of artisans and craftsmen. The construction of the Taj Mahal was entrusted to a board of architects under imperial supervision, including Abd ul-Karim Ma'mur Khan, Makramat Khan, and Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. Lahauri is generally considered to be the principal designer.

The domed station on the east bank of the Rhine River in Cologne (Koln), Germany has been the site of numerous train stations prior to this being built in 1914. Passengers are seen exiting the station into a spring evening rain.

This domed space in the Harem, where ceremonies and receptions were held, is believed to have been constructed toward the end of the 16th century. Entertainment, weddings and exchange of Bayram felicitations took place in this Hall. The faience inscription on the wall dates from the 18th century revetted with blue and white Delft tiles decorated in the rococo style after the 1665 Harem fire. The dome, the arches and the pendentives are ornamented with classical patterns traced by brush dating from the beginning of the construction. The Sultan’s Throne and the gallery of theValide Sultan and Kadinefendis have an imposing aspect. A cellar and the doors of other apartments open on to the Throne Room which is the entrance of the Sultan’s apartments in the Harem. This Hall which is the largest domed space of the Palace is the most important part of the apartments reserved for the residence of the Sultan, his mother and wives, who had moved into here in the 1580s. This hall, built a few years after the Privy Room of Murad III in 1579, and whose original character based on the pillared and arched infrastructure, was designed as an open domed hall surmounted by a big dome seated on four suspension arches with a monumental projection at the entrance and façade whose abutment being without windows.

The Peterskirche (English: St. Peter's Church) is a Baroque Roman Catholic parish church in Vienna, Austria.

It was transferred in 1970 by the Archbishop of Vienna Franz Cardinal König to the priests of the Opus Dei.

The old church burned down in 1661 and was given only makeshift repairs. The decision to build a new church was taken up with the arrival of the Fraternity of the Holy Trinity of which the emperor Leopold I was a member. He had taken a vow to rebuild this church when Vienna was ravaged by the plague in 1679-1680.

The construction of the new Baroque church was begun around 1701 under Gabriele Montani, who was replaced by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt in 1703. The design was inspired by the St. Peter's Basilica of the Vatican in Rome. Francesco Martinelli was the main architect. By 1722, most of the building was finished, and in 1733 the Peterskirche was finally consecrated to the Holy Trinity. The new church was the first domed structure in baroque Vienna. Due to the confinement of available space, it was built in a very compact form, with its oval interior housing an astonishing amount of space and rectangular attachments. The church makes an overwhelming impression on the visitor with its surprisingly rich interior filled with golden stucco.

The Peterskirche is located on Petersplatz, right next to Graben and just west of the Pestsäule. The street Jungferngasse cuts through the pedestrian zone and leads directly to the church. The Peterskirche is largely obscured by the surrounding buildings, and can only be seen clearly from directly in front.
